Obviously not this cap space ... and this is raw and quick ... but moving Staal for Skinner + compliance buy out of B. Richards makes a huge difference on this team financially.

Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Jeff Skinner ($5.725m) / Martin St. Louis ($5.625m)

Skinner is predominantly a LW'er now. He hasn't played center since the 11-12 season.

1. Amnesty Richards
2. Re-sign Stralman
3. Re-sign Boyle (I'd sign him over Moore, if given a choice)
4. Trade Staal (I would use him to get a 1C)
5. Do not re-sign Pouliot (not a fan of low IQ players)

He was a deflection from taking it to Game 6.

Richards is the boat anchor on that team...not Nash.

You couldn't be more correct.

Other pure goal scorers like Mike Bossy were lucky to never be keyed on nor poke checked. Bossy wouldn't have shot slightly quicker or on instinct of a true goal scorer found a way to get it over the stick.

I completely disagree. Hank is the window, and Hank still has another 5 STELLAR years in him IMHO.

This finals just proved that Lundqvist can play out of his mind and the team infront of him will always fail.

Even IF we make it back they will never be able to win it. So, ya he might get us back but unless he starts scoring goals on his own it won't matter.

It's going to take those 5 years to fix this ship.

The Rangers need an entirely new top line.

A lot of players are up for new contracts.

Many new mercenary/saviors are locked up long term on other teams.

Stastny will not be the new Messiah.

This was a huge loss!

We don't need a mercenary ... I believe if we can retain most of this team + buy out Richards that is a HUGE start in the right direction. Sprinkle in some youth (JT, McIlrath, Fast, Haggerty, Kristo, etc) and make SMART trades to give balance ... we are right there with the best in league. Regardless of how this series ended vs LA ... we could have won 3 of the 4 that LA won (OT games) do not let the 4-1 series blind you.

The way I look at it ... I am essentially swapping Staal for Stralman in roles and Skinner replaces Richards. It's not like Staal doesn't have his own health concerns.

Skinner has had several concussions. He has a nasty habit of not keeping his head up. It's going to happen again. He's not a guy who can really lead your offense either. I wouldn't sacrifice the Ranger's defense for him. He's not worth the cap $'s you allot to him either and there's no way you're going to get Stralman to sign for $3 mil per. He's probably going to make a lot more than that. The offense might need help but IMO you're robbing Peter to pay for Paul here. The defense has been the backbone of the team. Stralman I suspect is going to leave and to be honest there's a good chance he's going to make a lot more than he's worth and he's not going to be quite the fit for his new team that he was here.

1) Amnesty Richards
2) Do whatever it takes to re-sign Stralman
3) Bring back Boyle and Moore
4) Look into dealing Nash. He's a good player, but his cap hit is untenable for his level of production. I'm especially interested in dumping his salary because Stamkos hits UFA in two seasons. Unlike other UFAs we've brought in, he'll only be 26 when he hits the market. This also frees us up for trade acquisitions should Stamkos not reach free agency.
5) Lock up Zuccarello long term. At least consider a long term deal for Kreider. Bring back Brassard on a two or three year deal.
6) Hand the keys over to Gorton.

100% this^^^

Add to that: Do not sign any high priced, aging, injury prone UFA'S. Stay away from that. Easier said than done for Slats, its like crack for him to bring in the biggest free agent available.

On top of my list are resigning Strals, Zucc, Boyle and Kreider.

Try to package Nash and Staal for a #1 center.

If the price is right resign D.Moore, Pouillet, Brass

Allen, Fasth and Miller have a good shot at making the team next year.

With Richards, Nash and Staal gone we have close to 20 million in cap space freed up. Do not blow any of that on Statsny or Spezza.

Mars base station to Earth, this is Space Captain Reggie Dunlop!

I just received the terrestrial broadcast of the New York Rangers. Apparently, they have the best goaltender in the world, yet lacked the top end potential to put them over the top. There does not seem to be true replacements that can either be bought or injected from the farm system to alleviate this situation. I am also not positive that after major changes in the team that they would be in the Stanley Cup Finals during the rest of the great net minders career.

I hope the Earth is the same twenty years from now when I return.

Do whatever is in my power to not go into the season with:

Stepan
Brassard
Miller

As my center depth, while also compliancing Richards.

Get creative, Sather.

I think with a real 2C, we're right back into the SCF next year (on paper)

Krejci is a UFA in 2015, perhaps Boston would move him? Just a thought ... also if you really held out you could grab Toews is the free agent market next year.

My two main things:
BO Richards
Trade Staal for more offensive firepower - Going to be too rich and he probably wants to be a 1st pairing player, not a 2nd.
Signings all depend on money. Obviously there are certain ones that are higher priority than others.

Nash isn't going anywhere. After those playoffs, his value is at its lowest. You'll be essentially giving him away for crap. Should wait and hope for a bounce back. Heck, Gaborik wasn't much better here in the playoffs and look at how he played this year. It just takes the right mix of players and for that something to click. If you traded Gaborik today (with his remaining contract from when he was traded), I'm sure he would get back a lot more than Brassard, Moore, and Dorsett.
