4-OTTAWA SENATORS 2017 SEASON PREVIEW

The Senators open their season with a lineup that up front remains unchanged from most of what they ran with last season. Dzingel and Stone will still form the second line with Pageau and Lazar competing internally for the 2C spot, while Drouin and Turris will remain as the team's top duo.

The defense also remains unchanged.

The major change to this Senators squad is in net. The Sens have completely overhauled their organizational in net from top to bottom. Major UFA signing Ben Bishop will start, while AHL standout Marcus Hogberg earned himself the backup job. Hogberg being promoted to the NHL resulted in the Senators shipping out Matt O'Connor as well as acquiring Matt Murray to start in Binghamton.

:rangers
OTTAWA (0-0-0) VS NEW YORK RANGERS (0-0-0)
Despite a heartbreaking game 7 loss to Detroit last season, Senators fans have packed the CTC optimistic as ever. The feeling is electric, this is the Senators home opener.

First period, Bishop faces his first shots as a Senator (again). Lundqvist looks as good as ever despite being a million years old. Both goalies are unbeatable during the first period.

Sens get things going in the second with the first shot of the period. Smith beats Lundqvist, and it is 1-0.

Third period action, Senators cannot capitalize on a powerplay. In a tense period, the Rangers heavily outshoot Ottawa, but in his debut for the Senators, Bishop stands on his head, turning everything away. With a 35 save shutout, Bishop carries the Senators to a dramatic 1-0 victory over the Rangers

:leafs
OTTAWA (1-0-0) VS TORONTO (0-1-0)
The Maple Leafs took a huge step forward in their rebuild this off season when they signed Tyler Johnson to a massive 6 year deal. William Nylander looks to be getting a shot in Toronto's top 6.

Despite being the better team the last few seasons, the Sens always seem to have trouble against the Maple Leafs. Beating Toronto in the second home game of the season is hugely important to the Senators locker room.

Don't worry, the Senators third string goalie won't be starting this game.....

Toronto outplay Ottawa early. Both teams trade powerplays but aren't able to score. The first period ends 0-0.

In the second period, Ottawa kills a Toronto powerplay. BROOOOOCK NELSON scores the first goal of the game. 1-0 Ottawa going into the third.

Third period action, Karlsson scores a big goal to put Ottawa up 2-0.

Leafs aren't down yet. It took five periods, but Ben Bishop finally allows an NHL goal. Nylander scores a to put the game within one. 2-1 Ottawa.

The Leafs attempt to battle back, but Ben Bishop is too much. In his second straight first star performance, Bishop stands on his head to lead the Senators to a 2-1 victory over Toronto.

:panthers
OTTAWA (2-0-0) @ FLORIDA (2-0-1)
The Panthers who finished last in the league for two straight seasons are having a strong start to their season. They've opted to keep top prospect Ondrej Haloda in the AHL with Montoya returning as their starter.

Ben Bishop will start his third straight game but we could see Marcus Hogberg in tomorrow night against Columbus.

Jokinen puts the Panthers on the board early, but goals by Pageau, Turris, and Smith quickly put Ottawa up 3-1 early.

Both teams trade powerplay opportunities, and Jokinen scores his second of the evening to put Florida within 1. 3-2 Ottawa.

A late 2nd period Eric Staal goal ties the game 3-3.

In the first minute of the third period, Pageau scores his second of the night to give Ottawa a 4-3 lead. The Senators outshoot Florida throughout the third, and a Turris empty netter seals the deal. Ottawa win 5-3.

Ben Bishop looks human for the first time this season, but the Senators forwards finally break loose and after only managing a combined 3 goals in their first 2 games score 5 against Florida. Pageau has a big 3 point night.

:cbj
OTTAWA (3-0-0) @ COLUMBUS (1-2-0)
@BruceGarrioch-”Hogberg off the ice first. Looks like he'll get his first start of the season.”

High pressure situation for Hogberg who goes in against a mediocre CBJ team and will attempt to increase the Senators win streak to 4 games.

The Sens go on the powerplay three times in the first ten minutes but cannot score. Finally, on their fourth powerplay attempt of the game, Drouin puts one past Bobrovosky. 1-0 Ottawa.

The Sens kill a powerplay early in the second, and then come back with a Craig Smith powerplay goal to raise their lead to 2-0.

Third period action, Columbus get four straight powerplays to start the third and manage to beat Hogberg for the first time. 2-1 Ottawa.

Max McCormick. He had 16 goals last season, he scores his first of the year tonight. 3-1 Ottawa.

Despite outshooting Ottawa, Columbus cannot score. In a fantastic debut game, Hogberg is the first star with a .968 save percentage. Karlsson has another multi point night.

:wild
OTTAWA (4-0-0) @ MINNESOTA (4-1-0)
@IanMendes-”Expect Bishop back in tonight against Minnesota.”

Despite losing near 40 goal scorer Thomas Vanek to New Jersey in free agency, the Wild are having a fantastic start to their season and might be the Senators greatest challenge yet.

First period action, both teams launch 12 shots on goal, but neither can score. 0-0 game.

At the start of the second period, Francis Perron scores his first goal of the season to put Ottawa up 1-0. Craig Smith adds another goal, 2-0 Ottawa going into the third.

In the third period, the Senators continue to dominate. Midway through the third, the Senators are up 4-0 but the wild don't quite. A powerplay goal by Pominville puts the Wild on the board, and then with 5:45 to go in the third Graovac makes the game 4-2.

The Wild pull their goalie with a few minutes left, but they can't even the score. After outshooting Minnesota 37-32, Ottawa win their fifth straight game by a score of 4-2.

10 THOUGHTS
1-Who would have thought that the Senators would start the season as the hottest team in the league at 5-0? There is only one other team left undefeated which is St.Louis who are 4-0. It is quite clear the Sens are being carried thus far by a strong backend and unreal goaltending. Their powerplay stinks, they are middle of the road in GFPG, but on the flipside they have by far the best GAPG @ 1.4, and they have the 9th best PK in the league.

2-The Senators two hottest players are Ben Bishop and Craig Smith. Bishop is second in the league with a .948 save percentage while Smith has 4 goals in 5 games. Thomas Vanek of NJ currently leads the league with 5 goals. The weirdest early stat, Mark Borowiecki has 3 assists in 5 games. He is only 2 assists away from matching the 5 that it took 72 games for him to get last season.

3-Teams have called about upcoming UFA Kyle Turris, but with the Senators looking towards winning the post season, and Turris open to an extension, it would take a massive offer to pry him away from Ottawa. Kyle Turris' profile around the league took a considerable rise when he put up 12 points in the first round series against Detroit.

4-Auston Matthews name continues to populate trade talks. Those close to Edmonton reported that he had a strong off season and showed up to camp considerably stronger than the year before. Production wise, Matthews continues to struggle. He only has 2 points in 5 games. There is lots of pressure for the Oilers to turn around their team and win before the conclusion of McDavid's ELC.

5-OFD Michael Matheson of the Panthers has been the best rookie after the first few games of the season. The 2012 first round pick has 6 points in 7 games. Scherbak of the Canadiens and Petan of the Jets have both had strong starts with 4 goals each in 6 games.

6-There are some strong trade rumours that the Red Wings are considering moving multiple players and re-tool. The loss of Datsyuk has taken a toll on the team. They have immense depth, and apparently there is an order from above management to get something tangible for older players like Zetterberg before they walk or retire.

7-This is a good draft year for bottom end teams looking for centres. Lundestrom, Veleno, Zadina, and Sexsmith are all currently rated in the top 10. Veleno is the biggest name in the draft, but some scouts are claiming that Lundestrom might be the better prospect early on. Goalie Kyle Dumba is ranked #1.

8-The Senators have apparently been scouting 6'6” defender Logan Stanley. Stanley is the fifth ranked defender in the draft and expected to be around in the 20-30 spot that the Senators might expect to occupy.

9-So much for the Leafs taking a step forward in their rebuild. They currently sit last in the league with only 2 points.

10-Ben Bishop might be the second highest paid goalie in the league behind only Henrik Lundqvist, but with his play so far, he has proven that the Senators, a budget team, made a wise move in putting so much money into net. Can he continue this play going forward as the Sens face the Oilers and Capitals both twice in their next five games?

BONUS: PREDICTING OTTAWA'S ROSTER IN 5 SEASONS
Who will bust? Who will make it? Who will be traded? Who will be signed?

FORWARDS
Drouin-Steel-Stone
Perron-Howden-Smith
Lapierre-Pageau-Gagne
McCormick-Yamamoto-Lazar

(Kyle Turris has stated he is willing to sign an extension with the Ottawa Senators this off season. Turris will likely sign a long term extension, but the amount of future talent the Senators have down the middle will force the team's hand and a few years down the line Turris might find himself traded out West in order to make room for the outstanding 1-2 punch of Sam Steel and Brett Howden. The Senators will attempt to keep a consistent core of veteran forwards with Drouin, Stone, Smith, Pageau, Lazar, and McCormick still around.

The Senators are very high on 2017 6th round pick Kailer Yamamoto, but he'll never pan out as a big time scorer but still will find himself playing a few seasons in his mid 20's on the ice for a few minutes a game as the fourth line centre.

Max McCormick will stick around as this team's spirit animal, the new NHL's version of a Chris Neil. Not a fighter, but a working man's player who through maximum effort and smooth skating overachieves in order to carve out a long term career as an NHLer.

Lazar will never quite reach the lofty expectations set for him by Senators fans, but will be kept around for his leadership and solid two way play. Colin White will be long gone by now. Similar to Lazar, he won't pan out, but the Sens might opt to trade him or let him test free agency.

Perron is the Senators can't miss 7th round wonder. He'll carve out a career as an offensive dynamo in the Senators top 6 and in 5 years time he'll be staring down a huge payday as a UFA. This might be his last year as a Senator.

At the age of 24, Senators 20th overall pick in 2017 Jacob Lapierre might not reach the lofty 30 goal powerforward/future Lucic expectations, but he'll at least carve out a solid career as a scary 3rd line forward who is good for 10-15 goals per season. Gagne will be a year away from graduating to the top 6 and will prove that the Senators were right to trade up for him in 2016.)

DEFENDERS
Thomas Chabot-Erik Karlsson
Andreas Englund-Cody Ceci
Russell Stamkos-Jarrett Meyer
Marc Borowiecki

(As a budget team, the Senators will widely rely on their farm system to build a defense. While Meyer and Stamkos will only pan out as role players, the Senators clearly have two future top 4 defenders in Chabot and Englund who'll help shape the future of the team. Phaneuf and Methot will be retired by this point, while Reinhart will explore free agency. A local favourite, Borowiecki will find a way to remain with the team as the 7th defender.)

GOALIES
Dylan Ferguson
Ben Bishop

(In two seasons, current backup Marcus Hogberg's rights get traded in order to allow him a shot to start for another team which is something he'll never get in Ottawa behind Ben Bishop. Drafted 10th overall, Ferguson is the closest thing the Senators have to a surefire goalie of the future. Hogberg's trade will allow Ferguson to graduate to the NHL as Bishop's backup. Then in five years, Bishop will be 36 at this time, and his contract will have ended the previous season. Ottawa opts to keep Bishop around on a short term deal to ease the transition and mentor the 24 year old Ferguson through his first few NHL seasons. )

I have another Writeup ready for the Oilers if anyone is interested. I'll post it tonight. Also if anyone is interested in what players overall and potential are just ask. I've left that out as a bit of a more believable read.

Anyone else run into bugs while playing BAGM?

I finished the 23-24 season last night, did the draft and then after the draft my game froze up. Tried it again today, did the same thing but this time during the draft.

No, they wont even have it in NHL 17, although tey will have relocations!!!! Just gotta wait for NHL 18(sounds weird) for a buggy version then '19 for a more completed version! Even EHM doesn't have expansions.

You can create teams in 17(I think) so, you can probably just add them like that.

We start episode 2 with the Ottawa Senators being the hottest team in the NHL with a 5-0 record. Off season acquisition Ben Bishop is one of the hottest goalies in the league, while Craig Smith is off to a great start with 4 goals in 5 games. The Senators start a five game stretch where they'll face both Edmonton and Washington twice.

:edmonton
OTTAWA (5-0-0) @ EDMONTON (3-2-0)
Bishop starts in goal. No major changes to the Sens lineup.

For the first time this season, the Senators will face off against their former teammate Clarke MacArthur.

In the first period, both teams trade powerplay opportunities. This culminates in a JG Pageau PP goal that gives the Senators a 1-0 lead to end the first.

Second period action, Benoit Pouliot puts one past Ben Bishop to tie the game. 1-1. The Senators come back quickly with a Drouin goal to retake the lead 2-1. A memorable moment before the end of the period, Sebastian Collberg scores his first goal as a Senator, Ottawa now have a comfy 3-1 lead.

The Oilers start the third period by letting Ottawa know that the game isn't over yet. A Yakupov goal brings the Oilers within one, 3-2 Ottawa.

Midway through the third, the Senators are hugely outshooting the Oilers 35-25. They have complete control of this game.

Turris adds a late third period goal against Talbot, and then a Drouin empty netter gives Ottawa the 5-2 win. The Senators increase their winning streak to 6 games. MacArthur was held pointless for the Oilers. Drouin had his best game of the season notching 2 goals and an assist, while Karlsson ended the night with 2 helpers.

:edmonton
OTTAWA (6-0-0) @ EDMONTON (3-4-0)
@Eklund-”CBJ is shopping around Hartnell. Hearing they approached Ottawa about a Hartnell/Reinhart swap. Sens decline. E17”
@BobMcKenzie-”Looks like Dale Weise was claimed by the Senators.”
@SenatorsTwitter-”Dave Dzuirysnki or however you spell his name has been re-assigned to Binghamton.”

The Senators returned home and had a four day break prior to this game against the Oilers. Bishop will start in net, and the winning lineup will remain intact. Weise who was claimed won't play tonight. Weise has one year left on a two way deal and struggled to find his groove in Chicago where he only had 15 points last season, and thus far has only had 1 point in his first 7 games this season. Weise should provide the Senators with a cheap veteran 4th liner.

Nail Yakupov opens the scoring to put Edmonton up 1-0.

Former Oil King Curtis Lazar ties the game 1-1 in the second, but a Patrick Maroon goal puts the Oilers back up, 2-1 Edmonton.

Klefbom scores another to close out the second period, and the Senators winning streak is now in jeopardy with the Oilers up 3-1.

With the Oilers outshooting Ottawa 27-15, they'll have to dig deep if they want to extend their winning streak. Ottawa gets off to a bad start with Taylor Hall scoring early in the third to put Edmonton up 4-1. Dzingel manages to score a goal, but Taylor Hall's second of the night puts the game out of reach at 5-2. The Senators winning streak is snapped at 6 games.

:caps
OTTAWA (6-1-0) VS WASHINGTON (4-3-1)
@BruceGarrioch-”Looks like Colberg will be scratched on the fourth line, Weise will be in. Bishop will start again.”

First period action, Smith opens the scoring to put Ottawa up 1-0. A rare Mark Boroweicki goal makes this a sticky one as Ottawa go up 2-0 to close out the first.

Both teams are unable to score in the second. Bishop stands on his head.

With Ottawa having over twice as many shots on goal as Washington, Karlsson opens the third period with a goal that puts Ottawa up 3-0. Playing like a team that never wants to lose a game ever again, a Drouin goal makes the final score 4-0 with Ottawa outshooting Washington 39-19.

Bishop gets the shutout, Karlsson has an immense 3 point night, while Weise gets an assist in his debut as a Senator.

:wings
OTTAWA (7-1-0) @ DETROIT (6-5-0)
There is a tense atmosphere tonight, the Senators return to the building where their playoff hopes were crushed last season in a game 7 loss to Detroit.

First shot of the game and Mantha beats Bishop. On fire, only a minute or two later Mantha scores a powerplay goal. 2-0 Detroit.

Still in the first period, it seems like this has all the makings of a classic. Turris and Pageau both score to tie the game 2-2.

Scary moment to start the second. Henrik Zetterberg collides with Ben Bishop, and Bishop isn't getting up. A bewildered and confused Hogberg looks around as if to ask if he should get ready to go in.

It seems as if time stops, the Senators trainer rushes to the ice while Karlsson watches nearby. The game is delayed as a stretcher is called out. Bishop, writhing in pain is carted away.

Hogberg skates on to the ice. He'll have to close out the final two minutes of the first period.

We head to intermission, the talking heads discuss the implications of a Ben Bishop injury. “It didn't look good....he wasn't moving.”

“This guy came in and changed the complexion of that team, let's hope he isn't out for long. The Senators need him.”

“Could this be the Habs 2016 season all over again? A team that starts red hot behind a Hart calibre goalie but cannot win without him?”

Knowing the severity of the situation, the Senators come out and play their ***** off in the second. To the surprise of many, Hogberg looks unreal. He makes save after save after save and is unbeatable in the second period. A late period Drouin goal puts Ottawa up 3-2.

In the third period, Detroit go hard at Hogberg but the rookie goalie doesn't lose his composure. With a 21 shot shutout, Hogberg steals the game for the Senators who win 3-2.

There's no update on Bishop after the game, but most people in the know speculate that it is a serious injury.

:caps
OTTAWA (8-1-0) @ WASHINGTON (5-4-1)
Hogberg starts tonight. Driedger has been called up from Binghamton. Matt Murray is technically the third goalie on the Senators depth chart, but it is doubtful Driedger will ever play, he has been called up to sit on the bench.

In the first period, Hogberg gets lots of help. Smith and Drouin both score goals to give the Senators a healthy 2-0 lead.

Second period action, After going unbeaten for 13 shots, Hogberg is scored on by Kuznetsov. 2-1 Ottawa.

The Senators offense carries the game. They don't get the kind of goaltending they got from Bishop, but with 3 more goals in the third period, the Senators help Hogberg along to a 5-3 win.

Another big 3 point game for Karlsson. Hogberg had a respectable .909 save percentage, but if it wasn't for Ottawa's huge offensive output, they probably would not have won that game.

:nhl
10 THOUGHTS
1-The word is that Ben Bishop broke his foot. This isn't good news for Ottawa. Bishop will be out until December and could miss as many as 16 games.

2-The Senators are confident in Hogberg as a number two goalie, but they are cognizant of the fact that he has very little NHL experience. Expect the Senators to highly consider acquiring an experienced NHL goalie. Petr Mrazek might be available from Detroit. He has been stuck in the AHL for two seasons after the Red Wings acquired Roberto Luongo, and has dropped to a 83oa at the age of 25. He'd still be an upgrade on Hogberg. Reto Berra is also available from Colorado. Although the Senators might prefer Mrazek, Mrazek's salary of 3.63M might make him unattainable for Ottawa.

3-Kyle Turris is building off of his success from last year's playoffs with a career year. He has 11 points in 10 games. Turris has stated that he is open to re-signing in Ottawa. Ottawa will likely have to pony up something in the range of 7M to get Turris extended. There are teams who are hoping that the Senators strict budget can present an opportunity for them to pry Turris out of Ottawa. Teams have called about him.

4-It isn't just Turris. That entire Drouin-Turris-Smith line has been unreal. Drouin has 7 goals, Turris has 5, Smith has 6. They all have 7 points each. Along with Karlsson who has 13 points, that line has elevated their game and might be the most exciting line the Sens have had since the Pizza line.

5-The city of brotherly love? The Senators apparently have kicked the tires on Max Reinhart who has been a healthy scratch for most of the season in Washington. Ottawa needs a fifth centre who can play in the NHL. On a sidenote, the Senators have also been linked to the Penguin's Keanu Yamamoto (26th 2016) as far back as last trade deadline. They even selected his brother in the 6th round of this past draft.

7-Turns out all those Maple Leafs fans on HFBoards aren't as delusional as people think they are. In his sophmore season (he played 32 games last season where he only had 8 points) Nylander has 8 goals and 11 points in 12 games. The Leafs offseason signings are paying off huge as Johnson has 12 points in 12 games and Berglund has 9 in 12. Still, the Leafs cannot seem to get over the hump as they are 7th in the Atlantic Division.

8-Binghamton are 5-4 to start their season. Gemel Smith, a former Dallas 4th round pick who was signed to a two way deal by the Senators last season is having a breakout year in the AHL. Last season he had 27 points in 68 AHL games prior to being let go by the Stars organization, this season he has 13 points in 9 games.

Riley Barber (famous for his great 4 game stint with Ottawa) who was acquired in a minor league move from WSH last season has 8 goals and 13 points in 9 games.

The biggest story in Binghamton is Thomas Chabot. The 20 year old 1st round pick is living up to the hype. In 9 games he has 8 points for the Bsens.

9-With the Senators expecting to draft in the final 4 picks of the round, Vincent Milot-Ouellet might be a player on their radar. The playmaking right wing has caught the attention of the Senators management as he is situated right in their backyard of Gatineau Quebec. The Sens have been spotted scouting at numerous Olympiques games, and those in the know think that Milot-Ouellet might be their guy. The Senators have shown interest in the big 6'6” defender Logan Stanley, but as a riser, he may not be available near the end of the round.

10-We leave episode two with the Senators still standing as the best team in the league. The Sens are top 3 in every team metric (GFPG/GAPG/PP) except for PK which they are 14th best in the league. They have the best GAPG at only 1.90. Without their star goalie Ben Bishop, can the Senators maintain this frantic pace? Given that they've won 9 of their first 10 games, the Senators have a nice cushion, but with Bishop out for nearly 20 games, Ottawa could find themselves in a hole by the time he returns.

It is always fun to look at trades from a GM mode perspective, especially since there are some players that EA hasn't updated in years. Isn't Rocco Grimaldi a 3.5GR* potential?

....bolded is a BIG understatement. When you have to manually go in and edit....pretty much most of the entire draft class....and current prospects on teams....you know there's a problem

Starting a new MTL gm mode...interesting, but not for realism

In an outrageous series of events, Canadiens fans have called for the head of Marc Bergevin following the Subban trade. It is understood the board has fired Marc and discussed a new plan with Sergei Fedorov as GM.

Despite the name Canadiens, Fedorov's plan entails employing a fully Russian roster, and only drafting Russian players. This includes Russian born players or players of clear Russian descent (IE Galchenyuk).

The rest of the league has been put on high alert that Weber, Price, Pacioretty, Gallagher and so on are all available for trade. Non Russian players that cannot be traded will be scratched / sent down and will be released upon completion of contract. Any Non Russian 2016 draft picks will remain unsigned.

Look for heavy activity coming out of Montreal in the coming days

Ahh I was thinking of trying one of these next after my Oilers. Oilers have a guy named Shepyshev I'm using who has been unreal. Big fast great offensive awareness and is a franchise Low rating. 90 overall in my game at the moment. Should be easy to grab if you are dropping non Russians.

I'm not doing a write up but I'll give a summary of what i've been doing. I normal never make it out of the 1st year because I play all my games lol but i'm currently in the 3rd year of my Flyers GM. I have 1 rule once a player hits 26-27 I trade them to get younger.

I started the year with the normal team getting rid of older players/ones that I don't like (looking at you A-mac and Read) I stuck with the core for the most part once the trade deadline hit I started to tear the team a part. Trading Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds (This one hurt I love simmonds as a hockey player and person) For Eichel, Hall, Boedker . Simmed the year made it to the SC somehow! and lost in 5 games I believe.

In comes the draft and I stockpiled I think about 15 picks with 3 1st's and 2 2nd's the rest being later round picks. I walked away with Max Jones, Howden, Gauthier, Tkachuk Puji (No idea how to spell it yet) and a defensemen Mauldin (something like that).

Most of my later round picks got me some solid players with ok Trade value. Right now in year 3 i have so many players that are going to break the line up next year but the Flyers are already loaded with young talent. So I guess that's a good problem to have.

I don't remember if I made any major big FA signings I think I signed a goalie and a center A. Saarala. I just remembered I signed Ladd, which I never do because he is in his 30's but I knew his trade value would be pretty good. (Which is was and he was flipped for a 1st at next years trade deadline).

Year 2.

Made a couple minor-ish trades. Traded for Ho Sang, and few other 3-4th line players who are actually started to boom Ho Sang is up to an 83 I believe. ( I know this isn't the most informed one but I'll look at my line up tonight and get back to everyone with my most current roster).

Again at trade deadline I wanted to get even younger so I flipped Boedker and Hall for Drouin and Reinhardt.

Made it to playoffs with a 50 win record lost in 1st round -_-.

Again I stockpiled a butt load of picks this year I had 17!!! It was actually becoming a real problem as I was running out of room I got a lot of rejections when signed contracts lol.

I lucked out big time on a 1st round gamble at the trade deadline and landed the 1st overall pick drafting a Med Franchise goalie and a med elite defensemen with the 3rd pick Santala I believe is his last name. Again in the 2nd to later rounds I did a decent job at getting players with good value.

This year in FA I signed Little and Stastny with the intentions of trading them for 1st rounders which As off last night I already did with Stastny.

My goalie situation actually is probably the strongest in the league.

Neuvirth 30 Yrs old (yuck) 88 overall (Going to trade him because Stolarz is going to be ready to start next year and my Franchise goalie will be ready to backup.
Stolarz 24 Yrs old 85 overall.
Mcillrath (Franchise) 20 Yrs old 82 overall.
Booth (FA Signing) 21 Yrs old 81 Overall
Raaja (2nd Round Pick) 19? Yrs Old in the 60s overall I think.

I got incredibly lucky with the growth of my players as well. Eichel, Provorov, Couts all turned Franchise with most likely Konecny probably will too.

My current Roster from what I can remember is
Drouin 91- Eichel 97- Reinhardt 89
Dal Cole 87 - Couts 95 - (Can't Remember)
Ho Sang - Konecny 87 - Laughton 85
Looke 83 - Little 87 - (Can't Remember)

Defense.
Sanheim 90 - Provorov 90
Ghost - Morin
Klefbom - (Can't Remember)

That is an incredibly young team minus Little and I still have Jones, Puji, Gauthier, Howden, Santala and like 2 other players who next year will be ready to come up.

I apologize for the incredibly bad writing and being all over the place but I never do anything like this and i've enjoyed reading everything that everyone else is writing.

It's been a busy offseason for Fedorov and the Canadiens. The entire roster has been gutted ahead of the 16-17 Season, and the coaching staff replaced. Heading the bench is Sergei Zubov with Mogilny and Kovalev assisting him.

Welcome back sports fans! You are back reading the Edmonton Oilers year in Review for the 2018/19 season. I was an exciting year for the Oil. As always we will start with the 2018 draft.

At the draft the Oilers had the 25th pick in the first round. Also with Clendening and Eberle on the trade block GM Gene was busy on the phones that day. Lets begin!

Round 1:

Trade:
To Det: A. Clendening
To Edm: 2018 2ndrnd pick (Det) 2019 2ndrnd pick (Det)

To Ari: J. Eberle
To Edm: 2018 2ndrnd pick (Ari) 2019 1strnd pick (Ari)

25th pick: (LW) R. Nazarov

Round 2:

35th pick: (G) A. Eberle
54th pick: (RW) G. D'Agostini
55th pick: (LW) J. Peverly
56th pick: (RW) M. Fritzmeier

Round 3:

69th pick: (RW) M. Kruger
78th pick: (RW) M. Frattin
85th pick: (LW) S. Hood

Round 4:

115th pick: (C) K. Langdon

Round 5:

145th pick: (RW) I. Kabonov

Round 6:

175th pick: (D) A. Krief

Round 7:

205th pick: (C) V. Butsayev

Next it was time to hit the re-sign phase of the team, here is who GM Gene Released from the team first.

L. Brossoit
M. Letestu
B. Davidson
M. Fayne

Next we moved on to the re-sign phase of the contract phase, and GM Gene had his work cut out for him with the likes of McDavid, Slepyshev, and Nurse all needing new contracts. Lets look at who was re-signed by GM Gene:

C. McDavid: 2yrs 8.755
T. Smith: 2yrs 3.875
G. Chase: 1yr 0.650
J. Khaira: 1yr 0.650
B. Yakimov: 1yr 0.875
A. Slepyshev: 4yrs 5.475
I. Pakarinen: 1yr 0.950
T. Pitlick: 2yrs 0.975
B. Betker: 2yrs 0.650
D. Musil: 1yr 0.650
D. Nurse: 4yrs 3.700
J. Oesterle: 2yrs 0.825
K. Kessy: 2yrs 0.975
M. Moroz: 3yrs 0.950

With these players inked to new terms it was time to look at entry level contracts for the team. Here is who GM Gene signed to Entry Level Contracts:

K. Kostitsyn 3yrs 0.900
J. Faith 3yrs 0.755
R. Karrer 3yrs 0.950
J. Lemke 3yrs 0.775
M. Fritzmeier 3yrs 0.800
R. Nazorov 3yrs 0.825

Next was the Pre-season where the Oilers went 2-4-0. When it was time to dress who made the big team this was the lineup dressed by the Oilers

(LW) T. Hall (C) C. McDavid (RW) A. Slepyshev
(LW) M. Zibanejad (C) L. Draisaitl (RW) N. Yakupov
(LW) M. Tkchuck (C) B. Yakimov (RW) P. Laine
(LW) K. Kessy (C) M. Moroz (RW) T. Pitlick

(LD) T. Smith (RD) G. Reinhart
(LD) D. Nurse (RD) O. Klefbom
(LD) D. Simpson (RD) D. Musil

(SG) C. Talbot
BG) E. Laurikainen

At the All Star Break the Oilers had a record of 28-15-4 which was good enough for 1st in the Pacific, and 6th in the NHL.
They made no moves at the deadline and finished the record of 45-27-10 100pts which kept them in 1st in the Pacific, and 7th in the NHL. Once again the Oilers were heading to the playoffs. But first here is the Top 5 point getters for the Oilers during the regular season:

1) C. McDavid 21G 45A 66Pts
2) M. Zibanejad 30G 30A 60Pts
3) T. Hall 30G 29A 59pts
4) L. Draisaitl 13G 42A 55pts
5) A. Slepyshev 16G 33A 49Pts
(G) C. Talbot 34-24-9 2.200 GAA .925SV%

Now we will look at how the Oilers did in the playoffs. It was the Battle of Alberta in Round 1 as they took on the Calgary Flames. Lets look at how it went down:

Round 1 VS Calgary

Game 1: 5-1 Win Edmonton
Game 2: 3-2 OT Win Edmonton
Game 3: 2-1 Loss Calgary
Game 4: 5-2 Loss Calgary
Game 5: 4-2 Loss Calgary
Game 6: 4-2 Loss Calgary

With that the Oilers were Eliminated again early in the playoffs, But look to make up for it next season again.

Stanley Cup Champions: Dallas Stars
Calder Cup Champions: Grand Rapids Griffins

4-OTTAWA SENATORS 2017 SEASON PREVIEW
5-S02E01
6-S02E02

The Senators have managed to win two straight games without Ben Bishop who'll be out until at least December. Can the 9-1 Senators continue their dominance with a rookie Marcus Hogberg in net? Or will they be forced to make a desperate trade for a veteran goaltender to help carry the team until Ben Bishop returns?

:kings
OTTAWA (9-1-0) VS LA KINGS (3-6-4)
The Kings were the most dominant regular season team last year. Struggling out of the gate, the Kings only have 3 wins in their first 13 games.

First period, the Sens outshoot the Kings 10-1, but on LA's second shot of the game, Doughty gives the team a 1-0 lead. Brock Nelson ties the game for Ottawa before the end of the first, 1 all.

In the second period, the Kings increase their lead to two with goals by Kopitar and Clifford. 3-2 Kings.

The Sens offense comes alive. The Drouin-Turris-Smith line ties the game with two straight goals, 3 all.

We start the third period with the game tied, the Sens have all the momentum after crawling back into this game. Hogberg has a fantastic third period which results in the game heading to a 3 on 3 OT. Nothing can be decided in the OT, and going head to head with Jonathan Quick, Hogberg stops two out of three Kings shooters in order to lead the Senators to a 4-3 shootout victory.

Another game where the Senators squeak out a win, but where it can also be argued that the Senators would have easily won the game with Bishop in goal.

Confirmed Trade With Link [OTT/COL] Chris Driedger+Dale Weiss+Deakin-Poot+7th Round Pick for Reto Berra and Joey Hishon
Earlier today, the Avalanche and Senators pulled the trigger on a trade centred around Reto Berra. Berra who has played 67 NHL games was buried in the AHL and is set to become a UFA next season. The Senators needed a veteran goalie to help hold them over as Bishop is set to miss what could potentially be more than a dozen games.

In order to give up Berra, the Avalanche received a younger goalie in Driedger. It isn't a huge return, but for a goalie they'd likely not re-sign at the end of the season and had buried in the AHL, it is solid asset management.

The Senators also acquired 26 year old Joey Hishon. Hishon is a former first round pick who has put up big numbers in the AHL, but has never quite found his game in the NHL. He's been scratched this entire season for the Avalanche, and will be a UFA at the end of the year. The Senators were rumoured to be looking for a fifth centre in their lineup, and it looks like Hishon will fill that role.

The prospect involved, Deakin-Poot is a 6'6†4th round pick of the Senators. Dale Weiss who was claimed off of waivers will also be heading to the Avalanche.

:ducks
OTTAWA (10-1-0) VS ANAHEIM (10-5-0)
@BruceGarrioch-â€Berra gets his first start tonight against Anaheim. Looks like Hishon will centre the fourth line with White moving to RW.â€

Berra gets a great career opportunity here by having a chance to front a red hot Senators team in his UFA season.

The game remains scoreless until the second period when Cory Perry blasts one past Berra. A Cody Ceci goal on John Gibson ties the game, and it is 1-1.

Third period, both teams have managed nearly 30 shots. The Sens are having a hard time beating Gibson who is by far the best goalie in the league.

Perry scores his second of the night to give Anaheim a 2-1 lead. With minutes left, Rakell beats Berra on the 38th shot of the game. The Ducks add an empty netter and give Ottawa only their second loss of the season. 4-1 Anaheim.

Berra looked decent, allowing 3 goals on nearly 40 shots. The Senators lost because their offense couldn't solve Gibson in net.

:flyers
OTTAWA (10-2-0) VS PHILADELPHIA (6-7-1)
Despite the Ryan/Voracek/Giroux line being red hot, the Flyers are struggling to remain over .500.

After the Sens lost only their second game of the season, Berra will start again in net.

First period, Bobby Ryan sends a message by scoring the first goal against his former team. Couturier adds another. 2-0 Philly.

Sens go into the second period trailing by 2. They are bing outshot 17-10 and pull off a valuable penalty kill.

With the third period starting, the Sens have yet to break Steve Mason. They kill two straight Flyers penalties to keep the game 2-0. For the second straight game, the Sens allow nearly 40 shots. Giroux adds a last minute goal, and the Flyers win 3-0.

Berra has a good game with a .919 save percentage, but with the Senators unable to score, they lose their second straight game.

:flames
OTTAWA (10-3-0) @ CALGARY (6-9-2)
@BruceGarrioch-â€Looks like the Sens have made some changes to the lineup at practice this morning. Perron-Pageau-Stone/Dzingel-Lazar.McCormick/Nelson-White-Collberg. Hishon scratched. Berra to start again.

This is a big game for both teams. The Flames need to put together a string of wins to get back into a wild card spot, while Ottawa cannot let themselves lose four straight games.

First period action, Flames outplaying the Senators. The period closes with the Flames outshooting Ottawa 16-6 and up 2-0.

Second period action, the Sens finally look alive. Mark Stone puts the Sens within 1, but three straight goals by Calgary put them up 5-1.

The Flames continue their assault on the Senators throughout the third period. The Sens show a bit of fight, and get the score down to 6-3, but with nearly 40 shots on goal, the Flames manage to win.

This is the Sens third straight loss, and third straight game where they've allowed another team dominate them on the ice. It isn't just goaltending, these team looks completely different than the one that started the season with only a single loss in their first ten games.

:nucks
OTTAWA (10-4-0) @ VANCOUVER (7-9-1)
The Canucks are having a rough start to the season but are still only a point behind the Flames for the third spot in the Pacific division. Virtanen is having a breakout season with 9 goals in 17 games.

The Sens will attempt to snap a three game losing streak tonight.

First period action, Berra goes head to head with Markstrom. Neither can be beaten, and the score remains 0-0.

Early in the second and the Canucks take over the game. Vrbata and Tanev both score to make it 2-0 Vancouver.

The Senators start the third period with energy. They outshoot the Canucks heavily and finally crack Markstrom with a Nelson goal. 2-1 Vancouver.

The Senators fight back hard, but still can't tie the game. With the score remaining 2-1, Ottawa loses their 4th straight game to drop to a 10-5 record.

:nhl
10 THOUGHTS
1-After only putting up a single loss in their first 10 games, the Senators have dropped 4 straight. The Sens are still in the third spot in the Atlantic division, 5 points back of the top seeded Boston, and only three points ahead of Toronto who hold the final wild card spot. The Sens will need to work harder if they want to hold on to that spot.

2-It isn't just the loss of Bishop that has caused this losing streak. The team as a whole is playing badly. There isn't much secondary scoring being accomplished beyond the first line where Pageau with 7 points and Perron with 6 are the highest scorers on the team.

3-Teams are calling about upcoming RFA Brock Nelson. Nelson has struggled since being obtained by the Senators half way through last season but still managed to finish last year with 38 points. His size and RFA status make him a desirable pickup. Being used in a minimal role with Ottawa this season, he still has put up 4 goals in 15 games. Florida has called about Nelson. Pittsburgh could be a candidate as well.

4-Max McCormick is struggling to find his scoring touch from last season where he had 16 goals and 23 points. He only has 2 goals so far this year.

5-The big surprise early in the season is Scott Wedgewood. With Schneider battling injury troubles, in 10 games, Wedgewood has lead the league with a .941 save percentage. After the acquisition of Thomas Vanek who with 10 goals in 17 games is well on his way to having another big season, the Devils appear poised to make some noise this season.

6-Steven Stamkos is looking to make up for last year where Buffalo missed out on the playoffs on the last day of the season. Currently, Stamkos' is the leagues most productive player with 30 points. Sam Reinhart is another league standout, piggy backing off of Stamkos, he is the 5th most productive player in the league with 23 points. Buffalo sit second in the Atlantic.

7-Florida's 2nd overall pick Maxime Comtois is being brought along the “right†way, slowly. He is having a big year in the QMJHL and might be considered a shoe in for the top spot in the upcoming THN Future Watch issue. There's no talk that this year's top ranked forward Joseph Veleno might be a bigger game changer than previously thought. Right now, the standings are still very close, so it is hard to figure out who'll contend for last place, but one of the teams to look out for would be Columbus. Columbus are currently second last in the league, and might be tempted to tank out the rest of the year in hopes of putting themselves in a position to draft the 6'2†centre Veleno. CBJ badly need a franchise centre, and Veleno is being pegged as a future 90 point forward.

8-With 18 points in 15 games, Erik Karlsson is one of the most productive defenders in the league. Looking to avenge last year's Norris loss to Ekman-Larsson, Karlsson has a surprising challenger in Alex Goligoski. Goligoski is having a career year with 20 points in only 17 games. Ekman-Larsson has 18 points in 18 games.

9-While Michael Matheson of Florida has slowed down and now has 11 points in 19 games, Hunter Shinkaruk has entered his hat into the Calder race. On Calgary, Shinkaruk has 6 goals and 19 points in 19 games to lead all rookies.

10-There's rampant trade talk surrounding the Edmonton Oilers. If they don't get over the hump this season and make the playoffs, their management could be on the hot seat. McDavid only has 9 points in 14 games but is considered obviously untouchable. Auston Matthews days as an Oiler are apparently numbered. Matthews who had only 31 points in his rookie year after being touted as an Eichel like can't miss centre has only put up 5 points so far in 18 games this season. There's pressure on Oilers management to make something happen, and in order to do that, it might mean moving Auston Matthews while has value as a future #1 centre is still in tact.

Breaking News

BREAKING: Aquilini family sells Canucks
A private investment group has bought the team, and has fired everyone involved with the team right down to the equipment manager. They have announced the hiring of Markus Naslund as GM, Mark Messier as head coach, and Trevor Linden and Jeff Brown (all former Canucks greats) as assistant coaches. The new owners also said they have a different direction they want the team to go in.

Here is the Q&A with the new owners, new GM, new head coach, and the media:
Reporter: Why did you pick all these former Canucks players for these important roles, why not hire somebody with more experience?
Owner: We want to take a different approach. Why continue to recycle old managers and coaches who have failed elsewhere, instead of giving somebody else a try?

Reporter: You said you wanted the team to move in a different direction, can you explain what that is?
Owner: I know this team needs help. This team is not a contender. It's barely even a playoff team, but because of the former owner's insistence on making the playoffs, the team was stuck in mediocrity, instead of undergoing the rebuild it needed. Not anymore. I know what this team needs and that is a rebuild, so that's what we'll do.

Reporter: Markus, how do you plan on doing this rebuild?
Naslund: I'll start by telling all the other GMs that everybody who isn't a prospect or part of our future core is available, no matter how long they've been with the organization.

Reporter: That seems to kind of hint that you're willing to trade the Sedins. Is that the case?
Naslund: We're willing to trade anybody right now.

Reporter: Mark, how do you prepare for the season, knowing that it will be a very weak team, and a very different looking team from the one you see now?
Messier: I'm just going to do the best with what I've got. I've never done this before, I don't have a specific system. That's one of my advantages, I can mold my system around the players on the team instead of the other way around.

...

GM Markus Naslund has identified the Canucks young core, everybody else available.
GM Markus Naslund has identified what he calls the teams "young core", which he will not trade. That list includes just two players: Bo Horvat and Jake Virtanen. Meaning every other player is available for the right price. Let the rebuild begin.
