I've already become bored with GM mode again, plus with the draft and free agency coming up, it'll just become even more boring, so I'm done after this season.

I'll be making some crazily unrealistic trades to try and win the cup, which will basically screw the franchise for the next 10+ years, but oh well  .

I'm sure you're wondering how I got that lineup  , so I'll do a post with all the trades tomorrow, and then the playoffs later tomorrow and then that'll be it.

Yeah, I got bored again as well. I just stopped posting:laugh:. The only good thing is I started up a Online Franchise mode on Madden with a buddy. That'll be what I play for the rest of the summer most likely... I am considering getting FIFA16, it's only $25 at my local GameStop and I liked the game on the previous gen so I'll give it another try.

PAST SEASON 2 EPISODES
1-OFF SEASON PREVIEW
2-2017 NHL ENTRY DRAFT

:sens
With the salary cap set at 74.4 million, the Senators have an internal budget of roughly 63 million this season.

The Ottawa Senators have announced that they've come to an agreement with restricted free agent Jonathan Drouin. The team and Drouin have opted to go the route of signing a bridge deal. Drouin will make 3.5M per season for each of the next three seasons. Drouin started off red hot as one of the Senators best scorers and a near PPG player. Down the stretch, Drouin's play dropped off, and with his late season struggles he only finished with 43 points. This might be the reason the Senators opted to go for a bridge deal rather than take a long term risk on Drouin at 5 or 6 million per. The short term cap savings should also help the Senators manage their budget. Drouin will still be an RFA when the contract is over.

In a surprising move, Curtis Lazar and the Senators agreed to a 1 year 1.1M “show me” type deal. Lazar had a tough time finding a defined role in the lineup early last season, but prior to the acquisition to Joe Thornton found himself as one of the Senators hottest players playing as the 2C on a line with Dzingel and Stone. Whether Lazar can sustain that success this upcoming season might determine where he and the Senators go with his next contract.

Big news for Jean Gabriel Pageau fans. The crafty third line centre and the Senators have agreed on a deal that'll see him remain with the team for the next four years through unrestricted free agency. A fan favourite from Gatineau, Pageau had a strong year last season with 16 goals and 37 points. Considered a great two way third liner, this deal will keep Pageau with the team at a bargain of only 2M per season for the next 4 years. Pageau will be an unrestricted free agent when the contract concludes.

After a strong close out to the season, Griffin Reinhart earned himself a 2 year 1 way deal with the Senators. At 1.2M per, Reinhart isn't getting much of a raise. He'll still be an RFA when the deal is over.

OTHER SENS FA NOTES
-Sens have 26.535M in cap space. Salary cap is at 74.4M, which means the Senators internal budget is set at 63.24M, that gives them roughly 15M to work with.
-Sens release minor leaguer Ryan Rupert, and Kevan Miller.
-Drouin signs a 3 year 3.5M deal. Will still be an RFA when it expires.
-Reinhart signs a 2 year 1.2M deal. Will still be an RFA when it expires.
-Lazar agrees to 1 year 1.1M extension. Will still be an RFA when it expires.
-24yo RFA JG Pageau signs a 4 year 2M per extension to take him to UFA status.
-2 way extensions given to Collberg, Englund, Jaros and Ahl.
-22yo Hogberg signs a 2 year 2 way extension, will be an RFA when it expires.
-25yo O'Connor signs a 4 year 1.4M deal, will be a UFA when it expires
-23yo Driedger signs a 1 year 2 way extension, will be an RFA when it expires.
-2017 4th round draft pick Russell Stamkos is signed to an ELC contract. He is expected to report to Binghamton.

SENATORS UFA RULES REMINDER
-Only 1 UFA can be signed on July first every two seasons. This is to emulate the Senators complete lack of real life action in free agency. Depth guys can still be signed later on in the pre-season if they are available.
-Avoid poaching prospects who leak to UFA. We know that 4.5* goalies and some times highly drafted players leak to UFA. I don't sign these guys, too easy.
-When I "approach" a UFA, I have to use a Yes or No button to determine if they are interested in signing. If they don't want to sign, I have to look else where.
-I cannot alter the amount of years a free agent wants. Although, if they agree to sign with me, I am free to offer them as much or as little money as I want.
-Full NTCs for Elite Goalies/1st Liners/Top 2 D. 10 Team NTCs for Starting Goalies/Second Liners/Top 4 D.

TOP JULY 1ST FREE AGENT COUNTDOWN

photo.php

1-Pavel Datsyuk
(Despite being 38, he is looking for a big 2 year deal at over 8M per.)

photo.php

2-Ben Bishop
(The 30 year old elite goalie is willing to settle for a 4 year term. Depending on how frantic the bidding gets, it could take as much as 8M to lock him down.)

photo.php

3-Tyler Johnson
(How often do 26 year old number 1 centres hit the market? Thanks to the Lightning and their tight cap, it has happened two seasons in a row. Coming off of a 75 point season on a monster Lightning squad, don't be surprised to see the starting bids for Johnson settle somewhere around 6x6.)

photo.php

4-Tomas Tatar
(At only 26 Tatar will hit the open market. It'll cost a team willing to sign him at least 6M per.)

photo.php

5-Thomas Vanek
(Looking to capitalize on his 37 goal comeback season, the 33 year old is looking for a cushy 6 year 6.3M per retirement deal that would expire when he is turning 40)

photo.php

6-Mathieu Perrault
(At 29 years old, Perrault is looking for a modest 4 year deal in the 3.5-4M range. That might be a bargain considering he is a top 6 left winger who can put up points while playing a good two way game.)

photo.php

7-Michel Neuvirth
(The much more affordable consolation prize for teams unable to be in on Bishop. Someone will sign Neuvirth to be their starter.)

photo.php

8-Micheal Del Zotto
(Del Zotto is looking for a relatively big 5x5 deal, and given the fact that he is the best defenseman available, he just might get it.)

photo.php

9-David Desharnais
(A cap casualty in Montreal. The 30 year old undersized centre just had a 60 point offensive season and could be a good option for a team looking to add scoring down the middle. A budget conscious team might be wise to consider signing Desharnais as he is only asking for a 3 year deal worth 3M per.)

photo.php

10-Patrick Berglund
(Coming off of a bad year for St.Louis where he barely managed 20 points, Berglund is hoping another team will give him an opportunity as their 3C. At 29yo, Berglund is asking for 3M per with a 4 season term. If Berglund bounces back, it might be a bargain, but for a suspect 20 point player, that is a steep asking price.)

JULY 1st COVERAGE

HOUR 1
-It appears as though the Senators and Coyotes have both made big offers to Ben Bishop. Bishop isn't going to rush into choosing his team. The Coyotes finished second last in the entire league last season and are looking to accelerate their rebuild by signing the Vezina candidate Ben Bishop. They currently have a tandem of Mike Smith 81oa and Anders Lindback 80oa. We all know about the Senators goalie situation. Fans have to be excited to see the Sens go in on an elite goalie.
-SJ are the front runners for Datsyuk. Looking for a quick re-tool rather than the previously rumoured rebuild. They need a 1C to replace Thornton.
-Toronto and Vancouver have both made humongous pitches to Tyler Johnson who is taking his time.
-Carolina's new ownership will be active again after last year's big off season where they signed Boedker and Lucic. They've made a big offer to Tatar. Looking for a new winger to play with Hnerik now that Daniel has retired, Vancouver has apparently also talked with him.
-Very little interest in Vanek so far. It'll be interesting to see if that changes when teams lose out on bigger names, or if Vanek is forced to lower his massive contract demands. Teams are apprehensive to commit long term on a player of Vanek's age who has previously had “buyout candidate” attached to his name.
-Lots of teams see Perreault as a great low key pickup as a free agent. NJ, FLA, and DAL have already approached him. He should have no trouble getting the modest contract he desires.
-BOS might be in on Del Zotto. With Chara lost to retirement, there is a huge hole in their defense and they have the cap space to make a competitive offer.

photo.php
photo.php

HOUR 2
-Surprisingly high amount of interest in Berglund given his low point totals. TOR, ARZ, and CAR all have made pitches. Toronto is trying hard to turn the corner by adding both Johnson and Berglund.
-TB has apparently approached Frederik Andersen. Andersen wasn't listed in our top free agents because he is seen as a backup goalie and not a starter. He will likely provide a stable #2 option behind Vasileskiy if signed.
-SJ are still the favourites to take home Datsyuk. It seems like it is just a matter of time until both teams finalize things.
-We've just got word that Mathieau Perrault has signed a 4 year 3.27M contract with the Devils. “They offered me an amount I thought was fair, and were willing to offer me a chance at a greater role on their team. I think I can really grow as a player there.” Said Perrault when asked about signing in New Jersey. Perrault will be their third best OA forward.
-NYI have now apparently jumped into the Tomas Tatar derby. Hard pitches being made to him about the prospect of playing with Tavares.
-Brian Bickell was the subject of a bidding war between Nashville and Buffalo. As an Ontario native, Bickell apparently was leaning towards the Sabres, but Nashville offered the 31 year old a 3 year deal compared to the Sabres 2 year offer. After a comeback year last season with Chicago where he scored 32 points, Bickell signed with NSH for 2.18M per. We can also report that the Predators have signed Blake Comeau to an almost matching 3 year 2.35M deal. Comeau had 41 points with the Avalanche last season. These are both solid signings that will bolster Nashville's bottom 6 going into next season where they hope they can avoid missing the playoffs for a second straight year.

photo.php
photo.php
photo.php

HOUR 3
-The Sharks have apparently sent Brad Richards to the Rangers. In return, they've added Marcus Dickerson who was a 4th round pick of the Rangers in the 2017 draft. This trade might have been an attempt by the Sharks to clear cap space. Shortly after this trade was announced, word that the Sharks are in on Tomas Tatar leaked.
-It might sound crazy, but Cody Hodgson could be heading back to Buffalo.
-Dwight King is apparently working out a deal with the Hurricanes. Could this mean that they have been informed that one of their more coveted free agents won't sign with them?
-The Maple Leafs have signed Patrik Berglund to a 4 year 3.1M per deal. “He's a good player who'll be a big part of our team going forward” said Leafs coach Mike Babcock. For the Leafs fans, this is a polarizing signing, as 3.1M is a lot to commit to a player like Berglund who is coming off of a 24 point season.
-Tatar is the hottest free agent right now. Even hotter than Johnson or Bishop. Dallas apparently has thrown their hat into the ring. Tatar should choose his destination any minute now.
-As expected, the San Jose Sharks have finalized a deal with Pavel Datsyuk. This is a great move by the Sharks. They added Laine and Paul last trade deadline by trading Thornton and now have used that open cap space to sign Datsyuk to a contract. Datsyuk did not come cheap at 2 years and nearly 9M per. His high price tag apparently drove off most other teams.
-”It was a good fit. We're not concerned about Pavel's age. He still has a lot to offer. Our goal has never been to rebuild, we see ourselves as a playoff team and adding Datsyuk keeps that as a reality for us. We're excited to have him.”-Doug Wilson on the Datsyuk signing

photo.php
photo.php

HOUR 4
-As if. The Maple Leafs make a massive acquisition. Without them having drafted Auston Matthews in this game, they need a number 1 centre (oh wait, no they don't because according to EA Kadri is a godly 1st liner....thanks for the accuracy EA). It took a 6 year term and 6.6M per, but the Leafs have made one of the bigger acquisitions of this free agency......Tyler Johnson is now a Maple Leaf.
-”You know, they have such a legacy there in Toronto. They've got some exciting players coming up like Nylander, Rielly, Marner, and now Legace. I just couldn't turn down an opportunity to play for Babcock and be part of the turn around there. With the lineup we have, I really think we can win a cup in the next few years.” Said Johnson on the signing.
-Absolutely HUGE news. Tomas Tatar has chosen the Dallas Stars as his destination. Tatar apparently took a haircut to join the league's top duo of Benn and Seguin. Tatar signed a 4 year 6M per deal.
-”We're thrilled to add Tomas. He for us was the top guy out there and our top priority. He had such a good playoff last season (9 goals/20 points in 21 games) we just know he'll be such a big piece of the puzzle for us. We're ecstatic.”-Jim Nill on the Tatar signing
-Anaheim and Arizona have both put offers fourth to David Desharnais who is the top centre left in free agency.
-Still no interest in Vanek.
-Del Zotto to Boston seems imminent.

Oh010lR.jpg

HOUR 5

-Huge news. The Senators have acquired the services of Ben Bishop. It took the Senators a 4 year contract at 7.5M per. In his swan song with TB, Bishop had a .934 in 10 playoff games last season. The Coyotes apparently made an offer to Bishop, but the Senators beat them out on money, and as a result, Big Ben will be returning to Ottawa. With this contract, Ben Bishop ties Dany Heatley to become the Senators highest cap player in the team's history.
“We couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a guy like Ben in net. We see ourselves as a contender, and Ben is the type of guy you need back there. How often do teams get a chance to scoop up a goalie like him in free agency? It is baffling. Even if it means having to make some tough choices down the road budget wise, we just could not pass up this opportunity.”-GMDP on the signing
“I'm happy to be back in Ottawa. I enjoyed my time there and I like what they are doing. I look forward to playing with some of the same guys again. I heard Karl cut his hair, so I'm looking forward to seeing that.”-Bishop on the return to Ottawa.
-Apparently a team in the East is in on Vanek.
-It has been a quiet July 1st for Brendan Smith, but apparently after missing out on a few bigger names, the Canucks have approached him.
-Luke Schenn will most likely sign in New York, both the Rangers and Islanders have made offers.

photo.php
photo.php
photo.php

HOUR 6
-The Hurricanes make their first addition. Dwight King is signed to a 3 year 2.6M deal. The 28 year old only had 17 points last season but is valued for his physical presence.
-In what might be the strangest move of this trade deadline, Cody Hodgson has returned to Buffalo on a three year 2M per deal. Hodgson had a comeback year last season when he put up 19 goals and 46 points in Nashville. Given Hodgson's past inconsistencies, despite his solid numbers there weren't many teams interested in him. Funny enough, this means Buffalo is now paying Hodgson twice, both for his previous buyout and now for his new contract.
-Wow. Talk about a snub. All we've heard for the last few hours was that Del Zotto to Boston was a done deal. Did the 27yo LD string the Bruins along until the last minute? It sure seems that way considering he signed a 4 year 4.5M deal with the Bruins divisional rival the Florida Panthers.
“We never committed to a team one way or another. We were always straight forward that we were feeling out the market. Florida came along late in the process and we felt for our client, they offered the best possible situation, so we signed there.”-Del Zotto's agent on signing with Florida
-Vanek's people are hoping to drum up more interest now that Tatar and Johnson are off the market. Still, only 1 team has come forward.
-Could the Bruins get in on Brendan Smith now that they were snubbed by Del Zotto?

photo.php
photo.php

HOUR 7
-We can now report that David Desharnais has signed a 3 year 3.2M per deal with the Arizona Coyotes. He'll likely fit in as their 2C behind Hanzal but ahead of the ageing Antoine Vermette.
“This is a great coup for the Coyotes. They still lack a game changing 1C, but Desharnais can step in right away on their second line and play with guys like Domi, Reider, or Duclair.”-Bob McKenzie on the signing
-Luke Schenn was able to squeeze the Rangers for a 3 year 2.2M deal.
-Little to no interest in Drew Stafford who might have to lower his 3x3 asking price.
-We're down to Tomas Vanek, Brendan Smith, and Michael Neuvirth.

photo.php
photo.php
photo.php

HOUR 8
-The Canucks have signed Brendan Smith to a 3 year deal worth nearly 4M per.
“This is a steep contract for Jim Benning. Smith is a smooth skater who is great in his own end, but he isn't seen as a guy who can eat big minutes in the top 4 where Vancouver probably expects him to play. There wasn't a ton of interest in Smith at his asking price, but it seems like holding out until the end of the day worked for him. Vancouver were out of options and need to build a winner around Henrik before he retires so they opted to just go ahead and overpay for Smith.”-Bob McKenzie on the Smith signing.
-Two depth signings, the Sabres have added John Mitchell while Colorado has signed Lee Stempniak.

sy5FXKq.jpg

HOUR 9
-The last big free agent has now been signed. The Devils, desperate for a strong right hand forward have signed 87oa Thomas Vanek to a 6 year 6.3M deal. Vanek is 33 years old, and will be nearly 40 when this deal ends. Vanek had nearly 40 goals last season.
“You never know what is going on behind the scenes that prompts these contracts, but what a way to close out our free agent frenzy. I'm guessing this will be a polarizing deal with Devils fans. Yes, they are getting a star player who will fit a major need for them right away. Vanek put up 37 goals last season, that's top end goal scoring in today's NHL. But you have to look at the trade off. This is a guy who has been criticized for his work ethic, and had the word buyout attached to him when he was with Minnesota. I can't imagine that the Devils management are kidding themselves about this contract and think Vanek can live up to the big price tag during the second half. This reads like a win now, worry about the second half later type deal.”-Bob McKenzie on Vanek signing with New Jersey

For me, it's partly luck, but once I get to about the 4th round I start sorting by potential, then looking through projected round/player type/attributes to find someone who fits my needs.

I got pretty lucky in my 2nd years draft, I gambled at the trade deadline and ended up getting 1st overal draft a Med Franchise goalie :yo::handclap:!!

Then in around the 4-6th rounds I got about 3 plays who had low-med top 6 potential.

Pro tip on past gen. If you want the game to sim faster, take everything off your trade block.

If you want to get bat**** crazy trades, offer every piece on your team and list that you want every possible piece available.

"They've done it! They've done it! For the first time in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets are the Stanley Cup Champions!!"

jackets_040914_672.jpg

jackets-0424-slideshow-092.jpg

It took 21 games. 9 overtimes. 72 periods. But finally, the Columbus Blue Jackets are the Stanley Cup Champions. After a 4-3 win in round one against the Rangers, they swept the Islanders and the Lightning to go to the Finals, where they defeated the Ducks in 6 games.

As promised, the Blue Jackets owner announced he will be selling the team within the next two weeks.

PAST SEASON 2 EPISODES
1-OFF SEASON PREVIEW
2-2017 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
3-2017 FREE AGENT FRENZY

:sens
MINOR PRE-SEASON SIGNINGS
-The Senators have come to terms with undrafted free agent Jakub Kotala. Kotala is a big 21 year old two way forward who went undrafted in both '15 and '16. After a big year overseas, there was some mild interest in Kotala from a few teams on July 1st, but for one reason or another, he ended up still unsigned.
-The Senators have invited C Gemel Smith, C Cal O'Reilly, and C Hunter Garlent to training camp.
-Gemel Smith was drafted in the 4th round of the 2012 draft by the Stars. They opted not to re-sign him this off season.
-Cal O'Reilly is the brother of the more famous Ryan O'Reilly and is likely being brought in as a veteran presence on Binghamton's roster.
-Hunter Garlent is a 22 year old undrafted free agent who played six seasons in the OHL.

CONFIRMED TRADE WITH LINK [OTT/WSH] Matt O'Connor+3rd Round Pick+5th Round pick to WSH for Jeremy Helvig and a 7th round pick.
Helvig an overager was selected 55th in the 2017 draft by Washington. The Senators sell low on Matt O'Connor to make room for Marcus Hogberg in the NHL. O'Connor still could breakout in the NHL, but after last year's first round breakdown, combined with his College history, he has gained a reputation as a guy who can forge a career as a very good number two goalie, but might not have the mental makeup to succeed as a starter.

The Capitals get a number two goalie who has proven he can handle playing a large chunk of regular season NHL games as well as a few draft picks. The Sens get a B+ level goalie prospect which will help them restock the cupboards internally.

“The Sens pro scouts think that long term, Hogberg will be the better backup. He's a bit cheaper right now, and although the Senators sold low on O'Connor, they got Helvig who they think has potential to maybe be a starter in the NHL one day. With the market as it is for backup goalies, I think the Senators felt that if teams addressed their needs else where going into the season, there might not be a chance to offload O'Connor down the line.”-Bruce Garrioch when asked about the trade on TSN

CONFIRMED TRADE WITH LINK [OTT/PIT] Chris Wideman to Pittsburgh for Matt Murray
This is a topical trade, but Murray isn't the same beast in the game as he is in real life. At only 3 green star potential and 78oa at the age of 23, he isn't likely to become a starter.

With O'Connor traded and Hogberg promoted, Ottawa was without a minor starting goalie. Murray will take over where Hogberg left off in Binghamton with Driedger and now Helvig backing him up.

Wideman will likely get another shot at the NHL in Pittsburgh, where he'll be the Penguins 7th NHL defender.

The criteria to define a prospect is a player that is 22 years old or younger who hasn't played a full season in the NHL. Potential, overall relative to age, and sometimes success at the AHL level will determine who ranks where.

1-Brett Howden C TWF 19yo (12th, 2016)
Howden was a near top 5 pick who at the 2016 draft looked on nervously as he fell past multiple teams who opted against drafting him. The Senators picked up Howden with the 12th pick.

Originally thought to project as a big safe 2C, in his +1 season Howden defied expectations and showed a newly developed offensive flair that has scouts speculating that he could be a true 1C in the NHL.

2-Sam Steel C PLY 19yo (13th, 2016)
The more exciting of the two centres chosen back to back by Ottawa in the 2016 draft. Steel had a strong +1 year with the Pats in the WHL, but when the two teams faced off in the WHL playoffs, it became clear to scouts that Howden is the more complete player who with his newly developed offensive skills is a bit further along than Steel.

3-Thomas Chabot LTWD 20yo (18th, 2015)
There are high expectations for Thomas Chabot who since being taken in the middle of the first round by the Senators has seen his stock sky rocketed. Projected to take over from Dion Phaneuf a few seasons down the line next to Karlsson on Ottawa's top pairing, Chabot will play his first pro season for Binghamton this year.

4-Francis Perron LW PLY 21yo (190th, 2014)
Perron's debut year in Binghamton was a huge one. In 67 games, Perron put up 32 goals and 67 points. He played 6 playoff games with the Senators last season, scoring a goal and an assist. Although the Senators organization is rumoured to be disappointed with Perron's progress this off season, there is talk that a spot on the big club is his to lose this year.

5-Dylan Ferguson G HYB 18yo (10th, 2017)
Selected 10th by Ottawa in 2017, Ferguson projects to be a can't miss starter with possible elite upside. Rough around the edges, don't expect to see Ferguson in the NHL any time soon. He'll likely play the next two years in junior. Once those two years conclude, and he debuts in Binghamton, we'll probably have a better idea of what kind of goalie Ferguson will be on the road to becoming. With Ben Bishop signed to a 4 year deal, all signs point to the Senators expecting Ferguson to be Bishop's successor.

6-Jarett Meyer RDFD 20yo (61st, 2016)
When Meyer was still on the board at the start of the third round, the Senators knew they had to do everything in their power to entice the Oilers to swap picks with them. Rumour has it, the Senators had Meyer much higher than 61 on their internal list, and might have even had him as high as in their top 30.

Meyer will play his second AHL season this year, and he'll be looked upon to take on a greater role in Binghamton. The Senators apparently project the 6'9” 244 pound defender to be an elite mid or bottom pairing shutdown defender in the NHL.

7-Jacob Lapierre LWPWF 18yo (19th, 2017)
At 6'4” 230lbs, Lapierre has been an absolute wrecking ball in junior. If he can translate his mean streak and nose for the back of the net to the NHL, he could be the next Milan Lucic. Some of the more optimistic scouting reports claim that Lapierre has potential to be a perennial 30 goal scorer in the NHL.

8-Gabriel Gagne 20yo RWPLY (36th, 2015)
A rare combination of size and skill, Gagne had a respectable 16 goals and 33 points last year in his first AHL season. This upcoming year will go a long way in determining what the Senators have in Gagne as he'll eat up big minutes at forward in Binghamton.

9-Andreas Englund LDFD 21yo (40th, 2014)
Anyone who has heard Pierre Dorion rave about Andreas Englund knows that the Senators think they have something special in the 6'3” Swedish defender. Described as a meat and potatoes type defender with a great first pass, Englund came over to North America last year and made some big strides in Binghamton while adjusting to the North American game.

Englund displayed a commanding presence during last year's AHL playoffs where the Binghamton Senators upset the top seeded Toronto Marlies. Projected to be a bottom or middle pairing defender. It wouldn't be outlandish to see Englund compete for an NHL job within the next two seasons.

10-Mikhail Sergachev LTWD 19yo (138th, 2016)
Just realized that I broke my Eugene Melnyk no Russians rule when I took Sergachev last season. No one is perfect I guess, and maybe I can justify it because he was an OHL player.

Sergachev is still a long way from ever becoming an NHLer, but some scouts have speculated that if he manages to put it together, he could become a big deal for the Senators. Sergachev will play another season in the OHL.

THE REST
11-Russell Stamkos (AHL ready LOFD right out of the draft. Could be a bottom pairing PP QB in the big leagues one day.)
12-Jeremy Helvig (Binghamton's third string goalie this year. Obtained from WSH, a late 2nd round pick who has a long way to go but might one day start in the NHL.)
13-Alexander Nylander (An offensive dynamo in junior who some have speculated won't put it together in the big leagues)
14-Matt Murray (Had a modest year in the AHL last season for the Penguin's affiliate. Pencilled in as Binghamton's new starter. Seen as a future backup goalie.)
15-Kailer Yamamoto (The Sens went off the board to take Kailer in the sixth round of the 2017 draft. They apparently see big things for the 5'10” centreman, and were rumoured to have a deal in place to acquir his brother Keanu from Pittsburgh at last year's trade deadline had MacArthur not refused to waive his NTC to go to Pittsburgh.)

mikabikesblogjuly3.jpg

PRE-SEASON NOTES
-Boro, Reinhart, and Claesson round out the bottom end of the defense. Englund came close to making the team, but it was ultimately decided that the Sens were better not to rush his development.
-Hogberg won the backup job with Murray and Driedger assigned to Binghamton. This isn't a surprise, the Senators wouldn't have traded Matt O'Connor if they didn't think Hogberg was ready for the NHL.
-Dziurzynski, Collberg (Obtained from NYI last season in the Nelson trade), and Robinson made the team as the 12th-14th forwards.
-Perron has been promoted to the NHL. The Senators weren't high on his two way game during the pre-season. It is expected he'll mostly be used on the powerplay.
-In what might be a surprise to some, Pageau won the 2C job over Curtis Lazar.
-Dzingel had a huge off season, and made some big strides. He improved more than any other Senators forward.

Hey Everyone. Don't know how active this is now, but I used to post a lot with NHL 14. I was the guy who liked to take team Great Brittan and with no trades or Waivers or free agency try to build a cup team in the length of 5 years time. Would of liked to continue with 15 but life got in the way and missed that year. However thanks to some spoiled kid who ran up a $1000 cell phone bill on his Grandma and his sweet dear granny having a fire sale on his electronics I was able to pick up an Xbox One for $50 new still in the box as the kid got it that morning and granny got her bill in the afternoon. Thank you Kajiji for finding it so easy for me. A quick trip to the video game store and I was able to plug in and play the game I loved for so many years again.

With that said I was real disappointed with this GM mode. It feels like they took a giant step back with it. Plus without destroying rosters I can't take my worthless teams and make them into power houses with only drafting players from Finland, or Russia. One time I tried to do just asian players but it really never worked that well.

I played around for a day and got the hang of it however and started a Oilers Be a GM which I would love to share with you all.

First here are my rules for my GM. Since they don't give us a opening until preseason this year I can choose to trade before the first preseason game of year one only. After that I can accept trades but not offer any which I did this year as Edmonton has like 19 D men on horrendous contracts and I moved a few of the worst ones before game one. After that its set you trade block and hope the computer doesn't say you suck here take this lol. Also They must be realistic if I offer them. No 9 first rounders for A superstar team. Think what would a real GM offer for what.

I have waivers on but I myself can't claim anyone. So even if Crosby comes through I must decline taking him its a no no.

No Free Agent Signings. The only exemptions are for my Created Player Topps Smith who is decent enough to stick in the lineup but he isn't a franchise player. Or if I am to low under the cap and need to grab say 10 mil so I can not be stuck with computer generated salaries. Even then its grab a 38 yr old center who is 64 ovr and over pay through the nose.

Basically its a build through the draft and see what we can make of ourselves.

With That Let me begin my first 2016 Be a GM as the GM of the Edmonton Oilers.

Hello Ladies and gentlemen. Big news in Alberta today as the Oilers have decided to hire a new GM named Generic Manager, or Gene as the fans are calling him. He comes to us from the world of Fifa and though he is a Soccer Manager he thinks he can help out the Oils who have been struggling for years. In a Interview with the Sun news paper he said he has won every place he went and he expects no different here in Oil Country. He also comes with a history of knocking down player Ego's. His last job he had one player didn't want to play for him and he sold him off for $1 to humble him to a level C squad and the player was locked in that contract for another 3 years. He doesn't mess around folks so expect great things moving forward.

The first thing Gene did was look at contracts and decided to move a few he thought were not the best for the team. First Move was:

To Ott: A Sekera (6yr 5.500) and a 2016 3rd (Edm)
To Edm: M. Zibanejeb (2yr 2.625)
(This was Computer offer, I jumpped)

When talked about it Gene said Ottawa and Mikka had been on the outs and they wanted to shore up their Defense. It was win win for us both I think.

The 2nd Trade was:

To Car: N. Nikitin (1yr 4.500)
To Edm: J. McClement (2yr 1.200) 2016 3rd rnd pick(Bos)

This Move was to free cap space and pick up a veteran center to help this young team.

The Third trade was:

To NYI: A. Ference (2yr 3.250) 2016 3rd (Pits)
To Edm: M. Martin (1yr 1.000)

We wanted some grit and get it with Matt. plus he can flat out play hockey.

The last trade was:

To Wpg: R. Hamilton (1yr 0.600)
To Edm: 2016 6th rnd pick(Wpg)

This was a simple free a roster spot move. Needed to get off that 50 contract wall.

With that finished GM Gene made a offer to ousted Defense man 22 yrold Topps Smith. Gene saw a guy who could play hockey and no one would touch after a scandle. Gene had this to say about offering him the contract:

The Kid when I talked to him wanted to play, has put his ego aside, and just wants a chance. Last I looked we need people who want to play here, and he wants to play! maybe we get a dud? maybe it is a steal no one thought about, time will tell.

Free Agent Signings:

T. Smith: 3yr 0.800 (Entry Level)

With the Players signed and the Depth Chart filled Here is the Lines Edmonton decided to roll this Season.

T. Hall C. McDavid J. Eberle
B. Pouliot RNH N. Yakupov
M. Martin M. Zibanejab Z. Kassian
P. Maroon J. McClement A. Crackell

O. Klefbom T. Smith
E. Gryba M. Fayne
D. Nurse A. Clendening

M. Talbot
L. Brossoit

The Oilers rolled well the first half of the season with a record of 25-18-7 going into the All Star Break. However a losing second half left them at 34-37-11 that sat them in 26th Spot.

The Top 5 point producers were:

1. C. McDavid 15G 47A 62pts
2. T. Hall 29G 28A 57pts
3. J. Eberle 15G 41A 56pts
4. N. Yakupov 17G 33A 50pts
5. M. Zibanejab 12G 30A 42pts

Stanley Cup Champions: St Louis Blues
Calder Cup Champions: Toronto Marlies

Stay tuned for the next season of Edmonton Oilers Be a GM Hockey.

Just thought I'd Let people know I edeited 2 prospects in the game. One was Patrik Laine, just his Potential. The other was the other Fin Jessie (Please don't make me spell it as its not right in front of me.) both to Elite but everything else the same.

Welcome everyone to the Edmonton Oilers 2016-17 Year in Review. We will start the year off with the draft. Edmonton finished last season in the 26th spot in the NHL and as the hockey gods do gave them the win in the Lottery and they were given the choice of the first overall pick. GM Gene had this to say about the pick:

I never received so much hate from the whole of a nation for something I didn't have any control over at all. I even had a News Paper in Toronto send me death threats. The best line I heard was giving the pick to Edmonton is the NHL's way of Punking the prospects.

With That done lets Head to the Draft results.

Ok, Wrote this all out once and the website said something about an error, please hit back when I did it was all gone. Anyhow lesson learned, Copy before hitting post. Now Lets continue with The Edmonton Oilers Be a GM.

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to the Edmonton Oilers 2017-18 year in review. It was a good season for the Oil as GM Gene starts his third season in the office for the team. We will begin like every year with the 2017 Entry Draft.

As the draft approached GM Gene Edited his trade block and started to field calls on a number of players. His idea for the team was to move the old guard and bring in young fresh talent and I think he may have done just that. Lets go round by round to see how he did it.

Round 1

Trades:

To NJ: B. Pouliot
To Edm: 2017 3rd rnd pick(NJ) 2018 3rd rnd pick(NJ)

To Pit: Z Kassian
To Edm: 2018 2nd rnd pick (Pit)

To Wpg: P. Maroon
To Edm: 2018 3rd rnd pick (Wpg)

18th Pick: (C) N. Hischier

Trade:

To Mtl: M. Martin
To Edm: D. Audette

Round 2

43rd pick: (G) M. Murray
48th pick (D) V. Jekimous

Round 3

66th pick: (RW) K. Lind
78th pick: (RW) M. Hatcher

Round 4

108th Pick: (LW) F. Haberstich

Round 5

138th pick: (RW) A. Storm

Round 6

168th pick: (G) C. Heljanko

Round 7

198th Pick: (G) L. Hackett

With the draft finished GM Gene had this to say about it.

We had many calls from many different teams interested in our players. We saw seven teams put together a package for Jordan Eberle and they were tempting to take. However in the end we decided that if we want to make a serious run at the cup this year we need Jordan and turned them down. We were able to add today a great set of young players who want to play, and want to win. We did very well in this draft!

Next the Oilers moved on to the contracts phase of the season. GM Gene decided to not send anyone out to the Free Agents Market. Here are the new contracts.

Re-signed

M. Zibanejad 2 yrs 3.750
L. Draisaitl 3yrs 3.000
J. Khaira 1yr 0.650
A. Lander 2yrs 0.875
B. Yakimov 1yr 0.850
M. Moroz 1yr 0.850
N. Yakupov 2yrs 2.825
T. Pitlick 1yr 0.950
I. Pakarineu 1yr 0.950
J. LaLeggia 2yrs 0.675
D. Musil 1yr 0.650
J. Oesterle 1yr 0.750
G. Reinhart 3yrs 4.875
D. Simpson 2yrs 0.775
E. Laurikainen 2yrs 0.725

Now here is the list of Entry Level Contracts the Oilers inked.

H. Potter 3yrs 0.750
R. Abols 3yrs 0.875
M. Tkachuck 3yrs 0.925
F. Haberstich 3yrs 0.875
Z. Hope 3yrs 0.875
A. Storm 3yrs 0.800
M. Hatcher 3yrs 0.725
E. Bear 3yrs 0.800

GM Gene decided to go with Entry Level contracts instead of Free Agency and signed no free Agents. Here is what GM Gene said about why.

We have a great group of young guys who can win. There isn't a single player in the Free Agents list that I think is better than a team we will ice this year so why toss money away.

When the season started here was the Lineup the Oilers iced.

(LW) T. Hall (C) C. McDavid (RW) J. Eberle
(LW) A. Slepyshev (C) L. Draisaitl (RW) N. Yakupov
(LW) M. Tkachuck (C) M. Zibanejad (RW) P. Laine
(LW) M. Moroz (C) A. Lander (RW) T. Pitlick

(LD) T. Smith (RD) G. Reinhart
(LD) D. Nurse (RD) A. Clendening
(LD) O. Klefbom (RD) M. Fayne

(SG) C. Talbot
(BG) E. Laurikainen

The Oilers in the preseason went 5-1-0, and continued into the season and all star game with a record of 30-14-1 which put them at the top of the pacific division, and 3rd in the NHL. They kept the strong play going finishing with a record of 56-23-3 which was first in the Pacific division and 2nd in the NHL. This also gave them their second straight playoff year in a row.

The top point producers for the Oilers in the regular season were:

1. C. McDavid 12G 43A 55pts
2. T. Hall 26G 28A 54 pts
3. L. Draisaitl 13G 39A 52pts
4. N. Yakupov 21G 30A 51pts
5. J. Eberle 16G 31A 47pts

Talbot was a star in net for them this season and here is how he did:

C. Talbot 48-22-1 2.66GAA .929SV%

Now lets look at how the Oilers did in the Playoffs. They had a tough first round ahead of them as they drew St. Louis. Lets look at the results of the first round:

Game 1: 2-1 Win Edmonton
Game 2: 3-2 OT Win Edmonton
Game 3: 3-2 Loss St. Louis
Game 4: 3-2 Loss St. Louis
Game 5: 4-2 Win Edmonton
Game 6: 4-1 Win Edmonton

With The first round done in 6 games Edmonton got ready for round 2 VS Anaheim.

Game 1: 2-1 Win Edmonton
Game 2: 5-2 Loss Anaheim
Game 3: 2-0 Win Edmonton
Game 4: 5-4 OT Loss Anaheim
Game 5: 5-2 Loss Anaheim
Game 6: 1-0 OT Win Edmonton
Game 7: 3-2 OT Loss Anaheim

With the Oilers knocked out in the second round for the second straight year GM Gene was upset but happy with the guys. Here are the top 5 playoff point getters for the Oil and goaltending stats.

1. L. Draisaitl 3G 9A 12 pts
2. N. Yakupov 2G 8A 10pts
3. A Slepyshev 3G 5A 8pts
4. C. McDavid 1G 6A 7pts
5. M. Zibanejad 4G 3A 7pts

C. Talbot 7-6-0 2.23GAA .924SV%

Will there be a post-draft roster update?

Isn't there not usually one because updated rosters is one of the only major selling points for each game since they add so little from year to year?

Maybe there'll be one on Legacy since it is supposedly the last game on the previous generation. I have a suspicion that Legacy or at least Legacy HUT will go free to play if they aren't producing anymore PS3/360 games, so maybe they'll continue to support it.

If you have a top 5 pick, you have about a 95% chance of getting a Med-Elite player (4.5 yellow if you're just starting next gen)
As for trades, Spencer Watson from LA and Dennis Yan from TB are on the block in Year 1 and have both become 90 OVR players.

Anyone ever seen a 5 red star player in NHL 15 or Legacy?

in NHL 15 I saw 2 of them, in the same GM mode. I forget since its been a while but if i remember correctly, they were drafted like 10 yrs in. one was a Center the other was a defenseman. they were drafted top 10. they developed well. became elite players, but it took them 5 years to get there.

I'm super tempted to just go back to NHL 15 or grab legacy....to tide me over till 17 comes out....older gm mode is just....better in every conceivable way...i much prefer the potential system...16 is just too....bland....and the morale thing kills any enjoyment because players ***** about the smallest things like trading away a player thats never gonna be an NHL'er... "You traded my friend....I don't like that!!"
