Ok, as others said Hamonix is not winning a Norris but he’ll he can actually skate and pivot. And he has a bit of an edge tonight. Completely serviceable this year.

So far I would say JBD has the inside line on the Top 6. He looked composed and steady.

Brady and Claude were excellent and showed little rust. Brady needs conditioning. Tim for better every period, but still quite a bit of rust to work off.

Ostapchuck got better as he played more, as did most of them.

Jensen looked stiff and rusty, but loosened up nicely as the game went on and thank goodness for that. Jake Sanderson was amazing.

The PowerPlay was moving around pretty good and they had some good scoring chances. Tyler Boucher is a guy that just needs to play because he’s got the size and the edge to play in the NHL.

Unbelievable, dirty play by Holberg. Just no need for that in the preseason and I’m glad somebody did something even though it wasn’t enough but hell last year nobody would’ve done anything so there’s progress.

Best part of the night? They finally put two cops on the exit of the arena on the main stretch stopping all the walkers who are illegally parked in the auto mall. Looks like we are actually going to be able to get out of the arena this year! Thank God, somebody put their brain to it

Can you clarify as to where these two cops were positioned and does this mean they are putting a ban on people parking in the auto mall?
Asking for a friend.

The Leaves aren’t soft, they are just soft in key moments, their blue line isn’t champion quality, they don’t have enough puck movement from the back blue line and their goalie is their goalie

Decent team but the mix is bad.

I thought Stolarz was rock solid last night. Hidelby was pretty damn good as well. With Woll, their goaltending might be a strength for them this season.

I thought Boucher was decent. He was putrid in the rookie games and I had written him off but I saw some value last night.

Like everyone is saying, Jensen's mobility was good and Hammer looked adequate. I think JBD surprises everyone and has a good season .. 20-25 points.

Stutzle couldn't buy one last night. He looked so frustrated.. he tries so hard but no results.

Saw a couple of 2023 style rushes from Stutzle, it’s the time to try it but I think playing for possession and being a cycle game will be a massive transition for Stu just because he’s so focused on scoring off the rush.

assuming Matt Murray isn't one of their two netminders, I'm not sure how having two guys that have never started 30 games in a season is a strength. They are both going to need to play more than they ever have and it's not exactly science to figure out how that might go. It's a pure guessing game.

Last night was one of the better defensive games the Sens have played in some time & another example of how much better this team is with NHL goaltending. Hopefully Forsberg can play like that all yr. Also good to see them out hit the Leafs, but they need to cut down on the give aways.

That Cousins - Greig - Perron line if kept together will be great for this team this yr & at some point in the future a Ostapchuk - Greig - Boucher line has the potential to be equally as good as Greig will be bigger & stronger in future. Boucher has an NHL shot & in the NHL is big enough to separate players from the puck. Ostapchuk is very good at stealing pucks in all zones, is big & strong & wins board battles as well as blocks shots & can take faceoffs. Greig could be the most skilled of the three & the better playmaker who could really make that line click with size & skill.

You know, except without the reports that he tweaked his shoulder and there was a setback, keeping him on IR, him not participating in any contact at practices, exactly the same...
Anothere difference is last year he's was wearing a non contact jersey wasn't he? I do agree that he should play sooner rather than later as he needs the reps. Will also put our minds at ease (somewhat).

Can we talk about

Perron-Greig-Cousins

This is going to be so fun to watch. An identity line, unreal stuff.

I think Tokarski is going to get signed.
Not only are they all pests, but they're also worker bees. I'd like to see one each line to fetch the puck for the playmakers and finishers. I know it's early yet, no idea what the line-ups will look like on Oct 10th.

Is the identity undiscplined play?

-13 penalty differential for those 3 last year.

It'll be fun to watch if they can stay out of the box, or at least draw more penalties than they take.

He supposedly "tweaked" something which worries me. Those soft tissue injuries can linger/re-aggravate.
I believe he was out for a period of time last year in Boston due to injury + supposedly he was playing injured in 2023 playoffs where, according to Bruins fans, he was terrible. I want him to be an ironman, is that asking for too much?

I honestly have 0 confidence in Forsberg and Sogaard. In my humble opinion, we better pray to god Ullmark finally solves the problem.
I also don't want him playing 60+ games as he may get burnt out much like Brodeur did in Jersey and Helleybuck in Wpg when they both played a lot of regular season games. This is of course only applicable if they do make it to the playoffs.

Not because he scored but Sanderson is going to be a monster. Not that we didn't know but I didn't realize how strong he already is. The guy really has the fire to become Elite. I've been saying it for a while but I really see him as a Slavin type with a bit more offense, that's crazy

Also it feels good that you can already feel that DJ Dorion stink starting to fade away

I understand the concern but no problem IMO. If Forsberg doesn't hold the fort, then we go to 5oogard!
Sandy put on some weight in the off-season and it shows. He just keeps getting better and better.

He's trying to do a bit too much, needs to simplify his game and take what's available
Sounds familiar. Wonder how long it'll take new coaching staff to get that out of his game. Also still falls easily, what's up with that?

His track record is also a safer bet than Korpisalo's shit one was. The market is so strange sometimes.
I would imagine he wanted to play with a contender (yes, there are still some that think the Leafs are) and actually have an opportunity to play in the playoffs. But I agree, he could've gotten more on the open market if he was willing to play anywhere. Even Forsberg is making more than him.

I like what Methot is saying about Jensen. Been focusing on him and he's taken some big hits and keeps his game simple. He's very Zub like.
Which is exactly what we need. Hopefully Chabot will improve in his role as an offensive D and be less of a defensive liability once he's partnered with him.

It was a very low bar, but Hamonic's mobility is looking night and day from last season
Guess those 2 knee procedures in the off-season worked. He was also playing with Sandy on the 1st pairing so he should be good to go on the 3rd pairing. I see him as a calming influence and mentor for Kleven.

Ya fair to say that could have been a factor.

I still didn't understand the Korpisalo deal and how he got that, but big UFA seasons can do that for a player. David Clarkson type situation.

Basically, it looks like they have givem up with the auto mall parking. Difference is, there are cops to stop the people from walking , as is their right, but totally jams up the parking lot, and allows cars to get out. It was very noticeable, but of course will see how much of a difference when opening night comes around. Sometime last year, you could only get like 5 or 6 cars to turn on the green because of all thr damn people crossing. I was golfing with one of the Senator owners at the Hunt, and I mentioned this to him after the round over dinner. I am hoping I have some part in this!

Also, I saw cars using the OC onramp on the way out from Lot 1, which is something Cyril was talking about
