Carlo, Tanev and OEL are the diff from years past. They are all great at breaking the cycle and clearing pucks.
And Carlo’s size, there were times that Sens went in the corner for hit and literally bounced off Carlo.

I think the Laughton line was really good. Buzzing early and just played no event hockey the rest of the night.

Need to be better 5-on-5. Other than that, really hard to complain about anything.

I was hoping 7-1 going into the game... I'll accept this as tribute.

Sens thought they were going to be playing against the regular season Leafs... I am sure they are looking at each other and mouthing "WTF is this".

Keep the intensity up boys!

Steve Valiquette had an interesting take on the Sens and WC bubble teams in general. Said their maximum exertion was probably going to be having a big run down the stretch, make the playoffs but probably don’t have the capability yet to amp up another 10% to hit the playoff floor.

We’ll see what happens but it seems like a plausible take. Honestly I didn’t find their first 10 minute push looking like the quality we’ve seen from Boston, Tampa and Florida over the past 3 years. Not an insult to them, well, yes it is. But you know what I mean.

That 4th line got burned on Ott’s first goal but in general I thought Ott couldn’t match up with them

This was a smart mature game by the Leafs. They didn't get caught up in the shenanigans of that dirty Ottawa team. Another reason why this team is DIFFERENT boys. Don't retaliate, keep the sticks down, play smart defensively, and let them take penalties where we capitalize. Sounds like a recipe for success. Also shame on Uncle Fester on the post-game show claiming Ottawa is softening up the Leafs for the next game.

I didn't think the Leafs played particularly well. That said, they didn't need to as they basically ran away with the game with their D effort.

I hope the team tries to build through this series and not develop bad habits. Should the Leafs make it to the second round the level of competition is going to be about 10x the competition in this series and they got to elevate their game in this series to be prepared.

I love Matt Knies. That dude was built for playoff hockey. They’ve gotta lock him up long term, even if it means losing Marner. He’s the epitome of what this team needs.
What is the make or break line for a Marner return?

Win a series and then lose in a comptetitive secound round?
Lose in the conference final in any manner?
Lose in a competitive conference final?
Cup final appearance?
Cup or he walks?

Holy crap the Senators players are stupid, especially Batherson. Never seen a team so undisciplined. That was some BS they pulled at the end too. Greig 10000% was trying to run Stolarz + the scrums at the end, like it's a 6-2 game.

Enjoyed whooping their asses in game 1 thoroughly but these guys are absolute clowns.
