Barzal unhappy with Fan Support/Attendance at UBS Arena

I’m sorry islander fans but any day of the week, if you ask me what the most boring team is, it’s you. The combination of playstyle and stagnant roster is causing this.

The nhl is the circus. Winning does fill the seats, but so does spectacle. I can’t recall the last time the islanders went out on a limb and tried either.

NHL tickets today are too expensive for me to criticize fans for not showing up to watch a bad/mediocre team.

Like people have bills to pay and going to a game with your family is likely going to cost around like $200.
Not really. Tickets for Saturday night start at $17.

It costs more to see the Liberty than it does to see the Islanders.

Tough for the Islanders. Not only are they 2nd in their own city, but a third team is located in Newark that could otherwise help attract a fanbase. Not sure how it goes in other sports, but upstate New York having a team in Buffalo could also take a few otherwise fans.

Basically they're in a huge city but functionally a small market team. It's a weird situation.

Gotta win to have fans there. NYI hasn't really been an exciting team for some time now. They have the pieces to retool, bring in some offence.
As nice as the UBS Arena is, they moved into it late to start the season in Nov 2021. Bad start to the season and honestly, have been a borderline team since.

Plus, have been around the 8-12th worst team for much of the season. Not getting people excited to go.

14K is still a solid attendance relative to the team's performance on the ice.

If it was under 10K, sure, I get it. Money is tight these days.

Okay also add on parking, food and fees on top of those tickets.
Still a lot less expensive than teams in New York who are well-attended.

You're not going to hear any argument from me that tickets to some teams are too expensive, but most those teams are objectively not hurting.

Another issue is at play here.

100% agree, but $200 for a family to get to game sounds like a dream from an Oilers pricing standpoint.
Well duh, the Oilers are a Stanley Cup contender with the best player in the world. And no offense, but the options for winter entertainment in Edmonton, Alberta aren't overflowing. The Islanders are a team that won't make the playoffs after sneaking into bottom spots the last couple years off the strength of playing a lot of low scoring games that went to overtime a lot. Not rebuilding. Not real hope of competing. Just in a deadzone until they get a new Exec to blow it up and do the tank thing.

That's not a comparable situation.

It costs $200 for me to see the Rangers. The family can go kick rocks.

The Garden is just about sold out every night.

I hate MSG price-gouging and that's another issue we can have a separate conversation about, but there's very little evidence that price point drives attendance.

It's a dream from most fans' standpoint.

And using cheap seats to prove otherwise is kind of a bad argument. I don't need to be lower bowl but I wanna at least be on the sides rather than shoved in a corner nosebleed that's 400 feet from the other side of the ice.

Damn I'd rather pay an extra 500 bucks and rent a cabin by a lake for a whole week. Sporting events are getting out of control in terms of cost. Its awful.
Pretty hard to get that for $500 anymore, either!

Though I did have a nice studio AirBNB for a weekend Wings game in December for about $100/night. It was on a Anchor Bay... But it was December.

Even during the decade of darkness, prices far exceeded the price example listed.

Roger’s Place is no different. If you can survive the tickets for a family or even ourselves, buying any single items at Roger’s Place costs a mortgage. Two double whiskey and cokes cost around $50 CAD.

I can only imagine having to go to MSG and paying USD with the conversion right now.

It's a dream from most fans' standpoint.

Agreed, anywhere inside the goal line irrespective of how high or low works for me. Unfortunately, most of those have hiked up prices universally it seems.

I meant 500 more so a grand total.

But honestly I have found it much cheaper to go on a trip than a game recently lol. I just listen or watch the game and while I am there. More relaxing and no drunk people. Then HFboards gives my fix of awful fans lol

And they can get away with it because the casuals will keep showing up.

The biggest driver is market.

The Rangers and the Canadian teams are too expensive. Still selling tickets. Most of them suck (especially the f***ing Rangers). Still selling tickets.

The fact of the matter is, they put two other teams within driving distance of the Rangers. This was the market they entered.

There's nothing wrong with it. I think it's good to have a cheaper alternative. Looking at it objectively, and not being a Rangers fan since I was six months old, I'd rather spend $17 at the Islanders game.

Depends what you wanna do!

Already looking at doing a summer trip. Flight out to Calgary to go to Banff is dirt cheap. It's the vehicle rental that might kill me.

And those are Pittsburgh prices. Family of 4 in the nose bleeds here in Boston is easy double that. Easy.
