Toronto would do it based on the fact that Barzal is much more valuable. Barzal is NYI's best prospect since Tavares.

Barzal has more value than JVR? Maybe on HFboards but not reality. Leafs have no need for another skill small forward.

Barzal might have a high ceiling (doubtful he'll ever be as good as JVR), also Leafs aren't trading size to get smaller just to gamble on the chance Barzal becomes elite. Waaaaaay to many ifs for the Leafs to consider this....

Also would the Leafs trade JVR for RNH? Doubt it, Barzal would be lucky to become the next RNH

Barzal does not need to be protected for expansion
Jvr does .
That's my reason .
There are other factors besides talent and potential these days

Isles believe Barzal will be an elite player. At the very least a #2center. We need that behind Tavares.

Late to the party but this doesn't appear to be a need for either team. That, and Barzal is just too important to move - at least assuming we're not talking about a package for some kind of superstar forward.

The lack of secondary scoring and specifically the lack of a dangerous 2nd line is something that has frustrated Isles fans for quite some time. Barzal appears to be the guy who will fix that. Every time I see him play I gain more confidence in him becoming everything he's been hyped to become since draft day.

The only way a JVR to Isles deal makes sense is if we get in a time machine before they signed Andrew Ladd and traded him at the TDL or draft for Pulock and a 1st or something.

Pulock and Barzal are both highly valued by the nyi front office and both still on the ELCs.

I doubt the isles would package either + 1st, forJVR's 50-60 pts per season.

I wouldn't trade Barzal for JVR if I had Barzal.

Now that being said if the Leafs are trading JVR, we need a D.

so 80pts in juniors > 60 pts in the NHL?

Barzal hasnt played a game yet and wasnt a top 5 pick, so no he is not more valuable than JVR, let alone "much".

basically the equivalent of a leafs fans saying Marner>JVR

Who would you rather have, Marner or JVR? Yeah, I thought so. Same dynamic concerning Barzal for the Isles.

Every Leafs-Isles thread ever:

1. Leaf fan: "Hey, trade me your bluechip prospect for our veteran"

2. Islander fan: "No."

3. Leaf fan: "Come on our veteran is much more valuable, your prospect may never come close to being as good as our veteran"

4. Islander fan: "Would you trade your bluechip prospect for a veteran?"

5. Leaf fan: "Well obviously our prospects are much, much, much better than yours so the situations aren't remotely comparable"

I swear it's followed that exact pattern for a decade now.

Picking a fight
Strome top five pick, Dal Colle top five pick, both more hyped than Barzal

Love how NYI fans laugh off JVR but their GM signed Clarkson 2.0 in Ladd....

Barzal has been more hyped than MDC ever since he was drafted, thank you for showing you are oblivious to Isles prospects.

Clarkson had one year of 46 pts (having Kovy shovel him goals). His 2nd best season was 32. He has never gotten votes for any major award. Ladd has met or exceeded 46 pts every single season since 2010 (when he left the Hawks). He regularly receives Selke votes.

I don't love the Ladd signing, but this level of blatant ignorance and flaming is sad, especially from a Leafs fan lolololol
