Barrie Colts 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. It would be strategically better to keep the player and forego the return in order to maintain respect in the league for future trades and players holding NTC’s.

There is also a courtesy offered by reputable GM’s that when these sorts of issues arise, the GM of the receiving team does offer a comparable deal to market value otherwise they simply decline which allows the holding team to make an alternate appropriate deal.

I would also add, the league front office keeps a close eye on imbalance trades between teams, all deals must be approved by the league before making them official

This is why even if a "part two" were agreed upon between Guelph and London it would have to look right on paper, it can't/won't be Luchanko to London for scraps and no picks.

My opinion on the pp would be
First unit keep the nb line together but play Romani on the point with akey
So it’d be Romani with akey then Wakely OVS and Jelsma up front. Then second unit go Beaudoin Patterson hemming up front with Aitcheson and Bertucci on the point. The 3 guys that would lose a lot of ice will be Gardiner Stewart and lowe but all 3 should be penalty killers and in the top 9 other than Lowe who will be a 4th line guy now that can bump into the top 9 in case of injury instead of Derbidge. Still wouldn’t shock me if Marty try’s to bring in a better d man than tiller to really make the top 6 lights out. Is it overkill for sure could be but at the right price I think it’s worth it. If someone goes down do we really trust Passmore or tiller to play top 4 mins vs a team like Oshawa or Brampton not sure if Marty does or not. Eilasson has gotten better as the year has gone on but he might be better fitted on the 3 D pair as a shutdown pair with Passmore.

Looking forward to seeing this team play the 2nd half of the season. We all know who the top 6 is going to likely be. The biggest question is who is bumped down to the 3rd and 4th lines.

My guess is:
- Wakely, Romani and Van Steen
- Jelsma, Beaudoin, Patterson
- Hemming, Stuart, Newton, Gardner, Derbridge???

It’ll be Stewart Gardiner hemming 3rd line and Lowe on the 4th I would assume. Unless they wanna flip Stewart and Jelsma to give the 2nd and 3rd lines more balance

Could do that too I think the only set line is the NB line and that Lowe will probably play 4th line minutes unless there’s a injury.

With the prices being thrown around since the OVS/Romani deal I wonder if Marty might call it a done deadline. Glad they got that done early. Wow.

I would agree at this point it’s almost impossible to not overpay so I think he’s more than happy with the team he has now.

Too bad the team didn’t start playing tn till it would 4-0 Pete’s. Gonna have to figure stuff out soon cause even though your without Beaudoin and Romani u should be able to beat Peterborough who’s last in the league.
 
Last 3 games - they have looked very uninspired/very little physicality up front/they haven't been very good in their own zone/the goaltending has been very average.
There is too much talent too be playing like this.
Maybe they are believing too much of the hype.
Hopefully they can have a strong 3rd and squeak out a point or two. They came on in the second. Hopefully it continues. The guys that are out will definitely help them once they get settled in but they won't have much success playing this style of hockey in the playoffs.
Start crashing and banging boys. They need to be a lot harder to play against then what we are seeing.

Agree with everything said. At least the team is playing like this now rather than in 2-3 months when the games really matter. 1st in the conference is still for the taking for the colts just have to bounce outta this bad spell of games and start rolling again. Once the full team is out there they’ll get chemistry and start looking like the team they can be again I hope. Owen sound on a Wednesday and in Peterborough the next night is a brutal back to back but should have played well enough to get at least 1 of the games. Oh well big game Saturday at home vs Kitchener hopefully the team can get a big win

The Petes have been a much improved team in the last six weeks. They are 6-1-0-0 in their last seven home games.

Not great the past few nights, two games they boys should have had. All of the roster changes over the past month were disruptive. Losing players to the WJHC, some trades and the stress of the trade deadline all factors.

Some stability will help, looking forward to seeing this team come together over the coming weeks. Hopefully a healthy roster for Kitchener this weekend, should be a big game that they hopefully get up for.
 
With how much guys are getting traded for right now Marty really made his trades at the right time that’s for sure. Can’t see Barrie making anymore moves mainly because the price of the market it’s insane. The only need they could possibly need would be a defender to upgrade on tiller. Tiller is probably good enough but it would be nice to get a upgrade so Eliasson can play with Passmore as a shutdown pair but with how crazy the market is right now a guy like Mitch young would cost them every high pick they have left till 2029 which isn’t worth it for a mirror upgrade
 
I'd say Colts likely done as well. Lets hope Beaudoin and Romani get healthy soon and Marty figures out some line combos that can work in the meantime.
