I Think he is what he is. Play him as a grinding centreman. He wins draws and can be responsible defensively. I just don't see him as anything else, even as an older player in the league
Where would that put Grisolia and Beaudoin? I thought a possible 3rd line of; Grisolia-Beaudoin-Frasca, and Lowe as 4th centre.

Looks like they are going to keep ease the rookie in and they have the depth to do it. He played 4th line mins and on the PK Saturday.

Colts have 8 players at NHL camps so we will see who can take advantage of the opportunity while they are away. I am pretty sure all 8 will be sent back. Clarke has been MIA all camp, as the captain of the team that is disappointing, I'm not sure why he didn't come and ease the new kids in.

Cardwell-Vierling-Mcdonnell
York-Haight-Jelsma
Grisolia-Frasca-Pickell
Jodoin-Wigle-Matthews
Lowe-Beaudoin-Ellinas

Above doesn't include Mason, Dumont, O'Donnell, Del Monte (who isn't at camp anyway)

They are going to have to move some bodies out for sure and they have way too many centremen.

I think we need more high end scoring. We also have too many OA players in Lemieux, Cardwell, Vierling and McDonnell.

Lots of decisions to make. Team is going to be good this year, I hope they can land a good scorer with size to play up on the first two lines so Jelsma can move more into a checking role with Frasca.

Yeah, 20 forwards still on the pre-season roster :)
The colts are a bit small at forward for the central division; that’s why I think Frasca will be at RW, Lowe will end up being 4th line C and likely why O’Donnell, Chisholm, Dumont are getting a look.
There might be interest from 3-4 teams in Picknell and Mathews

I think Matthews is an odd man out, I think Ellinas could use some time in Jr.A to play bigger minutes. I've only seen Lowe on the wing, and I'm not sure his skating is good enough to play C but I could be wrong.

Jodoin looks strong, I hope he can take a step forward. I know he's tiny but he doesn't play like it and he has lighting speed. They will need the extra bodies while the other kids are at camp, almost like an extended tryout. Regardless, these are all good problems to have.

Let’s talk about Frasca.

Showed promise before covid.

This guy all last year was never able to make plays and get things going.

I’m seeing the exact same thing early on.

I hope things work out, he does wear the A but yeah.

youll be happy to know that marty has seen the light, i believe they are keeping all three 02 forwards. it really does make sense,

Also 19 forwards signed.

Thats poor management and sends a bad message to future parents and players, that beware OHL practices.

The OHL has to be a League that players and families want to go to and wont be teased around. Also, OHL should be a League of high quality rather than quantity. Owners cry that they are not making money, then dont sign so may fringe players.

This year, I believe will be a record amount of players released and most will try and go to Q or Jr. A. That disrupts the Jr. A teams and fringe players on Jr. A teams will be bumped out.

Covid/Double cohort right?

A few trying out for Barrie were released by other teams. I like when teams try to assemble the best roster they can.

Yes, the Covid part of it affected amount of players being signed, but its still getting ridiculous. A few OHL teams a few weeks ago signed 6 players each in a week.

It takes NCAA option from the player but it gives them a free year of school paid for just be getting signed. Expensive mistake for the OHL team

Or player can still sit a year and request to be NCAA eligible which theyll usually be accepted for

Not so fast now.
OHL Contracts allow for a full year of school if the kid plays a Regular season game after Jan 10 of that season. If they only play a regular season game before Jan 10 then they only get half a school year paid.

Unless player/Agent included guaranteed School years in Schedule C of the Contract, then the above applies.

i dont get why agents agree to sign, do they not see that there will be no playing time? now i do feel bad for the colts 04/05 goalies that probably signed in good faith a few months ago only to see them get recuited over. they;ll never get a chance.

Parents and kids dream of playing in OHL compared to the long path and D1.

Alot of parents say they will hold tight and wait for the guaranteed school but when they are handed a piece of paper with a chance for their kid to wear an OHL uniform, they buckle. I wish the rules were a bit more structured when it comes to signing kids. Owners invest alot of money into each kid every year, considering the school year, plus billets, equipment, ice time, travelling, etc.... These costs per kid could be $25k-$60k per year depending on school package they get and team costs. 2-3 pairs of skates per year to some, many hockey sticks, equipment, etc...

Hard to feel sorry for owners but what they spend above, they deserve the right to dictate what they can do or not??

ya dont feel sorry for owners, just hope that the kids are informed when they sign, a guy i know was bragging the kid he repped signed with london, i looked at him and asked when he was going to play, he said 'oh, this year', it was 2021 and the kid is probably going back to jr b given that they have 30 players signed ahead of him. i highly doubt mark hunter told him he was going to play, the agent just isnt that good at his job.

The better players play and some kids and agents have to realize that the kid isnt ready to play yet, or will just be a fringe at best player.

London signs alot of their players because they are used as assets down the road if they have to trade.

“Guaranteed NCAA schooling” is no more guaranteed than OHL education package, from what I know of OHL package. I know the difference between what is offered and what is guaranteed for division 1 hockey.

I can be certain that there isn't any GM out there that will guarantee playing time, a roster spot etc. If there were, I would be concerned as a player because it's just not how things should work. Playing time has to be earned.

Being signed doesn't guarantee you anything but an opportunity to make the roster. Same would be for Div1 NCAA or any league for that matter. It's up to the player to make the most of the opportunity.

Another player can always come along and take your spot. Especially if you're in the bottom four.

I'm not saying it's fair, but that's life you know? Make the most of it and never become complacent as there is always someone below you looking for that opportunity.

If your good enough, playing time is definitely guaranteed. London didnt convince Sam Dickinson to leave his USHL comitment and say "maybe youll play, maybe you wont"

Now that we know Barrie is going to be all in this season, here are some trade proposals that I think will more than likely happen (at least one of them should happen).

Trade 1:
SAG receives: Akey, Grisolia, 3x 2nds, 3x 3rds, 2x 5ths
BAR receives: Mintyukov, Bloom
Notes: With Mintyukov being an import player, his value will be slightly decreased (but not by much). By a single 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Trade 2:
WSR receives: Beaudoin, 3x 2nds, 2x 3rds, 2x 5ths
BAR receives: Johnston
Notes: N/A

Trade 3:
HAM receives: Lowe, 2x 2nds, 1x 3rd, 1x 5th
BAR receives: Winterton
Notes: N/A

These trades may not happen EXACTLY to what I mentioned but I’m guaranteeing that one of these trades will fall through…

I’m not sure how you can “guarantee” anything before a single games been played BUT … I guarantee you the Winterton deal you proposed will not happen because Lowe is ineligible to be traded.

Can be a handshake deal that gets completed in the off-season - similar to the Dipetro for Afanasyev and Maggio deal.
