The plus is that other than Graf and Mukh, I don't expect any of those guys to get significant NHL time this season. I don't see any reason to interrupt Cagnoni'a first pro season by jerking him around and would rather he just focus on the Cuda this season and worry about making the Sharks next season. If he's still playing this well all season then I'm sure he'll earn a brief call up at some point, but that should be it. I don't really feel like Bordeleau or Gushchin will see significant Sharks time either. So if you have Poturalski, Schuldt, Carlsson, Cagnoni, Gushchin, Bystedt, Bordeleau, Cardwell, and Furlong, I think they're okay from a skater perspective. Graf would be a significant loss, but not back-breaking.

I think the biggest threat to the Cuda is the Sharks taking Askarov. I wonder if he'd be willing to go back for a Cuda after the Sharks' season is done, hopefully for a deep Calder Cup run.
I’m fairly confident that Askarov won’t be in the Cuda for much longer.

Especially because Romanov's been pretty meh so far and Dell's currently being outplayed by Carriere at the ECHL level. If we deal Blackwood I wonder if we do acquire a new AHL goalie in the trade.
Yeah, when I've talked with other fans in Blackwood trade threads, I've specifically sought out teams who can send us back a capable AHL starter.

I’m fairly confident that Askarov won’t be in the Cuda for much longer.

Well, now we see if there's a corresponding promotion from Wichita, though the Barracuda don't play again until Saturday.

Wichita has games on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday, I assume they'll need two goalies.

i would think that if the Cuda are locked into the playoffs in March, we'll see the call ups for sure. I'm wondering if they'd send Smith and Celebrini for a Calder Cup run.

Seems pretty telling that Sabourin is the only guy with a letter that was on the team last year, no?

Well kind of, they just gave the letters out to the veteran players (minus Bailey) and the veterans are almost all new faces.

We named five alternate captains last season and it was Sabourin, Cassels, Todd, Carpenter, Bailey. Then eventually Simek as captain, for the month or so before he was traded.

Carlsson's back in for Furlong again, forward lines look to be unchanged.

Matt Benning!

First time the Barracuda have ever faced the Marlies.

Pre-game was just a long, frustrated-sounding mic check.

Bailey's looking real motivated today.

You can definitely tell this fill-in play by play guy is from junior hockey, he keeps referencing guys as former members of whatever junior/NCAA clubs they played at.

1-0 after the first period. We played well in the first half of the period and then the Marlies were all over us.

It feels too early to be saying this, but man Lucas Carlsson is a strange player. Anyone watching the Cuda, watch him in the offensive zone. He just jumps right into the play like he's a fourth forward. Then on defense he just seems to wander around a lot. Making me kind of nervous in the little action I've seen from him.

He's truly an adventure in his own zone.

Still 2-0 at the end of the second, Barracuda are still on the PP for 1:15. Cuda haven't been horrible but I also can't say the "0" on the board is undeserved.

This guy filling in for Nollenberger, Reed Duthie, is actually really good, I'm enjoying his call.
