7-2 final. Rockford added an empty netter and then Muk got a 5-on-3 in the last few minutes.

The two Wiesblatt penalties really did us in. I'm not sure about the five and a game on the above check, but whatever it was, Rockford score three times with him in the box. The 4-1 lead going into the third allowed them to just sit back. I wasn't too sold on Chrona in this one, either.

Awful way to start the season, but put it in your rear view and make up for it tomorrow afternoon. Rockford's a vet team with a lot of chemistry.

Who'd you like in that game?

To me, Cardwell seems to play so much faster than everyone else. And Muk is such a good passer.

5 and a game seems harsh for that, the hits clean if he has the puck, not sure why that's more than an interference call unless the guy was hurt

I thought I was being a homer, but I saw it in real time, and then on replay, and I still didn't get it at all. I should also add, the five-minute penalty was for an illegal check to the head. What especially bothered me on this one is when Ozzy made the hit, neither ref was calling a penalty. Then the scrum happened, the Icehog player stayed down, they conferred and we were suddenly a man down for five minutes.

I should say, though, discipline was not an issue for the team as a whole, but Wiesblatt went a little over the edge more than once. Think he wound himself up a little too much for the opener.

I agree, I liked Cardwell. Coe seems to be playing heavier and I liked his play tonight, though he threw the absolute softest body check ever at one point and it was kind of hilarious. Gushchin had himself a pretty nice all-around game too. On a minor note, Roman Kinal looks a lot more confident than he did last year. Him and Frisch gave a good account of themselves. I'd like to see them make it a hard decision to take them out of the lineup once reinforcements finally arrive.

Pulli got benched near the end of the second. He did come out to the bench for the third, but he never did play again. I wouldn't be shocked if he comes out tomorrow. It felt pretty justified, IMO. He looked a little lost. Felt like Gawanke got caught out of position a little too often in trying to make something happen offensively.

Raska and Vincent in, Sredl in for Kinal. Surprising.

Robins is injured, I take it?

And as far as Wiesblatt, I get the annoyance at the penalties and suspension, but my god, how can you make a bee-line for and crush the wrong guy like he did? It makes me seriously question his hockey IQ (it's not the first time I've wondered about that) which leaves me worried for his future because it's not like he has other great tools to make up for a soft hockey brain.
