It's going to reach critical mass now that we're in the final. A lot more people who have been coming into the store I work in seem to all of a sudden be Rangers supporters, and they start talking to me about hockey much more than they have in the past.

Personally, I don't mind the bandwagon for 2 reasons.

  1. It's kind of cool to actually see the whole city behind the team even if most of these people won't be fans come October.
  2. Some of these people may actually become genuine fans and that's always good for the game.

Agreed. Hockey is overlooked in NY compared to the other pro sports so it's kind of cool to see so many people support the team.

The only type of bandwagon fans that bother me are the ones who act like know-it-alls even they aren't that familiar with the sport.

Firetrucks roared down 3rd Ave in Bay Ridge, sirens blasting, people out in the streets waving Rangers flags, it was pretty loud and crazy :yo:

I remember 3rd Ave drive back in 94, I'm sure you do too - strangers high-fiving, cars sirens blasting all night long, hugs, kisses and salutes all around. But the best thing I remember is how completely happy I felt and saw the same emotion on everyone else's faces! Can't believe it was 20 years ago.

1994 was so much fun. I'll never forget walking around the Garden after game 7. One of the best experiences ever. I was out all night drinking and just rolled straight into work that morning from hanging out in the city.

Living in Houston now sucks for the Stanley Cup. But then again, if we win it all and there is no celebration here, I'll take it.

No one has ever said a word to me all these years of wearing a Rangers cap or jersey/shirt. Today the kid at the theater ticket booth said that he was a jealous Devils's fan. Meh, I guess it's something.

Enjoy it. They'll disappear as soon as the series is over, win or lose. It's always cool to see your teams stuff everywhere.

I saw two Rangers jerseys at Safeco Field last night at a Mariners game. Made me feel bad that I decided not to wear mine

I saw one of them on TV! Down the right field line in foul territory, not far from the foul pole.

Represent!

B's fan in support or my northeastern brethren...

The bandwagon gets old QUICKLY....

1) This summer when the cup is in and around NY and people that literally think a new cup is produced every year for the winning team will somehow manage to get their pictures taken with it and send them to you.. while you miss out.
2) Next fall with the bandwagon leaks into regular season games and people that don't know what icing is are sitting around you at games or bars. They treat the game like a social event talking non-stop and going in front of you every 5 minutes for a drink or snacks or to go to the bathroom.... Then they ask you to take their pictures in the stadium so they can immediately tweet them out. Or better yet scream the criticisms they heard on that week's drive time sports talk radio.

I walked for about an hour yesterday on the upper east side and saw one piece of Rangers gear. Certainly not at critical mass.

That being said, I get a nice amount of people who after ignoring my interest all year, now want to discuss it non-stop. It's arrogant of me to not want to talk to these people, but I just can't stand it. I watch every game like its Game 7 and no one cares, now all of a sudden I'm the guy they can talk to about them. How about noooooooooo.

I've never had a problem with bandwagon fans. I am just happy everyone is talking hockey. Much more fun going into a bar and have the game on and the sound playing than having to ask the bartender to put the Rangers on the TV in the corner that no one is watching.

I'll celebrate with all fans if they win, bandwagon or die hard. I know that after watching for all these years, I'll get infinitely more enjoyment out of a win than someone who started watching yesterday, that's my reward for being a long time fan.

You must not be familiar with the majority of people who attend regular season games currently. You literally just described them.

Feel you here. All throughout the season, I treat the games as important and each losses hurt and the fairweathers roll their eyes.

Can't complain too much though. They're in the freakin Finals.

I think the bandwagoning is overblown. If you're a lifelong New Yorker, you would know that hockey has the least amount of bandwagoners of the pro sports. It's an underdog sport and it's not cool to love hockey. I think you will always have bandwagoners and new fans (a good thing) but it's not to the extent that people on this board make it seem.

While I agree with this, I have a love/hate. I was looking for a Moore/Stralman player shirt with the Stanley Cup logo on the chest, and they were no where to be found. Only the "big guys" like St Louis, Nash, Lundy, McD. It's almost like seeing an oasis when you run into Rangers gear during the regular season, but when it's finally out en masse - it seems it still slim pickens other than what they want you to buy.

Need love for the Dorsetts/Boyles/Kleins/Stralmans
