I think Murray's the perfect #7 D-man. One of the first things Woodcroft did (other than 7-11) was to reduce minutes of the kids and elevate veteran d minutes. Murray's a good security blanket to have in this mature phase of chasing deep playoff runs. He can sit in the press box without worry of his game atrophying.I wonder if we waive Murray, send down Niemelainen or send down Holloway and go 11-7? Personally, I am not a fan of 11-7 if we can have a decent 4th line.
Think this team might move Nemo and Broberg up and down to gain NHL experience and maintain big minute AHL play to continue honing confidence and experience. I don't mind 7-11 especially as this is more of a platoon type defense which can spread minutes around (I'd cut Nurse's minutes to 22-ish but that might require the eventual trade to upgrade second pair D).
For me, I'd play Holloway the next couple of NHL games to gage how he does coming back from injury. Favorable schedule and feel he's earned his spot on the big team. However if he can't get decent minutes after that then farm time for big, important minutes. Thought he was solid in Calgary with small ice time.
Nice to finally be building out legitimate NHL depth and prospect pipeline to have options with young, developing players.
