Love the player but we don't need him and that cap space is nowhere to be found. Lastly not giving Willander up in any deal unless floored as we value him and his ELC when he arrives to the show.
Elias Pettersson (11.5M) + Williander + 1st + Cap Piece (do Nucks have a 4-5M player they want to move?) for Barzal + Dobson?

None of those deals make sense for NYI. They'd be looking for a 1st back on top of an A prospect because a Barzal trade means a rebuild.

What if this gets into a bidding war. Could we pry away Lambert?

Honestly, I don't think so IMO. And that's not because I think Lambert is some amazing prospect or anything. It's for the same reason you even made this thread in the first place.

I would be very hesitant to trade a huge package for Barzal due to his contract and the value he brings in comparison.

I think the Jets try and re-sign Ehlers, Appleton, and Pionk (as UFA's), and they'll need to also give raises to Vilardi and Samberg. And they might also try to extend Connor as well (if possible) and that will take a raise as well (although starting in 2026).

The Jets are winning with a more balanced approach, and if Barzal brought a little more value for that $ I could possibly see it (a little more offense, better defense, etc.). But if he also did those things, you likely wouldn't be looking to move him either.

Yeah. The original proposal is enticing from a Vancouver perspective. Willander (and his potential to be an impact defenceman on an ELC) is so important to the Canucks in the coming years...it makes things questionable. But the value is so good. It'd have to be something like this though, to make the cap work. Even then though, with Dobson due a raise...i'm just not sure they can afford that much $$$ tied up in three defencemen going forward.

The other issue, cap stuff aside, is the question of whether Barzal is a C/W. Because they'd absolutely need him to be a Center to replace Pettersson, who is prone to apparent malaise and scoring slumps...but is also still a generally reliable player defensively, while playing in the middle.

Isles don't consider any of these for Brazal.
