Bad teams that are ready to turn it around....

Hopefully the Sens. We've had 20 of our 31 losses come by one goal, and there have been only 3-4 games this year where the team wasn't really in it. If They can acquire a top line forward they could make the jump.

Agreed. We need another team to trade us a Bobby Ryan.

Minnesota - currently showing what they can do with competent goaltending. Likely too late to make the postseason.

Philly - Still searching for stability on D and between the pipes. I can see them getting it done with a busy offseason.

The Flyers have been stable between the pipes for 2 and a half years now. We can stop beating that dead horse any time.

Well, I'm not saying they'll be contenders right off the bat. I see them as a bubble team, kinda like Colombus and the Panthers this year.

I just don't even see that. Willing to bend if goaltending comes through.

Thanks for having faith on the Leafs. Even as a Leafs fan I don't carry that much hope

You know with addiction, you have to reach full bottom first before you can cure yourself, the Leafs haven't reached full bottom yet. Give it another few months

Columbus is not a bad team but they have poor showing thanks to their injuries. If they can stay healty next year, they are definitely the team to turn around. Good goaltending, a solid forward core and few good players on the backend. They are ready

Dallas is another team. They have some really good young forwards and if Nikushkin and Ritchie reaches their potential, they'll be heck of a team

30 games left in the season, we're 3 points back of a playoff spot with 2-3 games in hand...

Which of the likely nonplayoff teams do you all see turning it around next year? I'm talking about a team making a rise like Columbus did last season, and the Isles are doing this season?

My money is still on Toronto because I view them as only a grizzled vet on defense away (in fact, I had picked them to make the playoffs this season and still see them as only a hair below my Islanders).

Other candidates?

Appreciate the vote for toronto, but if all goes well this offseason the roster will be blown up. So we will be basement dwellers for the foreseeable future.

I'd pick Colorado

The Blue Jackets are having an off year.
hard to say a franchise is just having an off year when they've made the playoffs only twice in the last decade in a league where over half the teams make the playoffs every season...

The Blue Jackets are one of my bets. They have been derailed by injuries and have impressive some guys in the system. They should get a nice pick this year and then be back next season ala Islanders. The Panthers are also my bet. They have a good core of young players along with Luo in net who gives them stability. A guy like Jimmy Hayes would do well in a playoff series. He has the size to be effective.

Buffalo. I like the way they drafted and where they're going.

With McEichel, they'll be set for 15 years.

Buffalo for sure, solid core and good mix of vets and prospects
No. Not for another year at least.
Agreed. Their team will look largely the same next season except adding McEicel and Reinhert as many of the same players will be back next season and be counted on. Sorry, I simply don't see two rookies (no matter how talented) making the worst team in the NHL (and one of the worst in recent history) a competitor in one offseason. Their top 4 D will likely still be the same and they still have really poor contracts for forwards who will likely be back next season and expected to play big roles...Ennis, Moulson, Gionta, Hodgson ( although heard he may be bought out though I guess).

I guess they could go out and sign some high priced free agents and decrease their time to competitiveness, but I don't think that would be a good idea long term for the team.

Idk, just don't see it next season.
Not at all. The roster will be completely different. Murray has come out and sais that.

Mitchell,Stewart,STafford,Benoit,Strachan,Meszaros,Neuvirth,Enroth are all UFA's. Plus Hodgson likely will be gone. The team will have many young prospects make the jump. Grigorenko,Reinhart,McEichel(pls), Armia,Pysyk,etc..
If history repeats itself, Oilers will find success like the Islanders.

The Oilers have nowhere near the amount of assets NYI had.

Holy crap when will this stop? Philly has no issue with goaltending with Mason is in net. He is 5th in SV% for god's sake.

We have a crappy coach, crappy PK and need a #1 dman.

Stop talking about things if you are not educated on them.

Ottawa and Minnesota

EDIT: I can see Philly possibly making the playoffs next year. They have a great forward group and a good goalie. All they need now is better defense and to improve their penalty kill.

Philly is a better Edmonton. They're so fricken top heavy it's insane. One of the better forward groups and one of the worst D groups. Mason is good tho. Has been since the trade.

They're in a weird place right now. Their D needs some time to develop and their forwards are in NOW mode. Kinda awkward.

I say the Sens.

For a very young team the Sens are in every game, they are a very competitive team they battle every night and if their PP wasnt so bad they would be in a playoffs spots right now.

How many one-goal did they lose this season because they PP didnt produce?
