judging by the comments I was going to ask the shatkins fanboys to defend the deal but I see a bunch already screaming NO about the deal so far.

Just a bad deal. Berrios is good but not worth what they gave up. Look at the deals other teams are making and not giving up 2 top 10 team prospects.

Berrios is not coming in like David Price. Fans will hate this deal as the years go on. This has all the smell of the Dickey trade.

Like someone said, in a vacuum, Berrios for SWR is a solid trade. Berrios is a proven, legit top of the rotation starter with a year of control on top of it. Does it suck to give up prospects? Yeah, but that's the nature of the beast and you can live with it.

Jose Berrios however, is not worth two of your 5 best prospects. No way, no how

BUT BUT BUT all we hear on this board is player control and how Jays won't give up players for rentals well you just gave up 2 guys who had 14 years of control for a guy with 1.5 years of control and in reality have to make the playoffs this year or it boils down to 1 year of control before he hits free agency.

This front office surprised me with this bold move. I don't rate SWR as much as others but the price for acquiring a top of the rotation starter is indeed a top young prospect.

We have up a lot but we got better right now and we still have a great farm.

After saying that, our rotation looks pretty sick now with a front 3 of Ryu, Berrios, Ray.

Signing Ray and Berrios is going to be super important to making this deal worthwhile because we've essentially started our win now window.

Martin should’ve been untouchable in my mind. He was a 1OA caliber pick who slid a bit due to how much money he wanted. Berrios is good but not good enough to warrant a guy like that

Stroman fetched Kay and Woods-Richardson but Berrios costs Martin AND Woods-Richardson? I honestly value those two pitchers around the same. Both have the potential to take the next step but just hadn't at the time of their respective trades. I would've put Martin+SWR as a realistic package for Zac Gallen... not Jose Berrios.

Ok, let's talk it out, ha. They better be prepared to pay Berrios on an extension assuming he wants to sign it. And they better not be done, might as well keep going here.

But any trade where SWR is the best piece going back is a steal for the Jays. Some pretty concerning metrics and results for him this year. But thus should have cost like Martin and nothing else or SWR plus a couple middle range guys, this is just unnecessary overpayment.

two top prospects for one year of a guy, man, if he walks you just gave up on the 5th overall pick and a solid pitching prospect for one f***ing year. Maybe Jays can go on a huge run late here but we are pretty far back.
