There's not much the league can do to stop you. They can't force you to play some players over others or to make trades to improve the lineup ect
Babs admitted to "making sure they finished last to land Auston Matthews" in that Christine Simpson interview, thats something nobodys come out and said before
Impossible. Leafs board told us teams never purposely tank.
Signing any coach for that long is crazyOh I agree but do you think Shanny gets approval to dump Babs and pay the remainder of his contract if he were working for the Canes or Yotes ?? If it was my money, I'd ask Shanny, "what the hell are you thinking hiring Babs and then changing direction midstream and hiring a GM that mixes with your coach like Oil and Vinegar"? Not many markets where a President is allowed to burn so much money.
I think the argument is that players don't tank.
And I see every board say this. Not just the Leafs board.
How do you hire a guy who abused your fellow Red Wing players, something Shanahan must have been well aware of?
It seems important to you that the world thinks Babs is a bad person. It seems like you don't care to forgive him. Maybe I'm wrong, but cancel culture doesn't want to see an apology. A firing is not good enough. You want Babs wiped out and to never coach again. All because of what? He's a prick? Yeah. Did it get him a coaching job in the NHL, a cup, wins, coaching Team Canada, etc? It might have. So what? I don't think he killed anyone along the way, but a lot of sensitive people can't handle that. The Leafs failed and Toronto fans want him to pay dearly. Long after his firing!
You tell em Mike. The vitriol that's posted here in response will be amusing at least.
Re: ToneDog and Shanny
No leaf fans seem to be coming up with a reasonable explanation as to why Shanny allowed the hiring of Babcock when he knew that he slaughtered many Red Wings emotionally.
The Marner 'incident" seems so silly to me, why are people making a big deal out of it?
I think Bab's was a good coach but he was too adamant and the players needed a new voice. He lost the room and he got fired for it... happens all the time.
Let's not make him a monster because of these 'accusations'. There are real monsters out there and he is not one of them.
The Prez played on those teams so if these stories are true he had to be aware of them..............he was the most sought after coach that summer. Obviously those stories were not out yet. Every team was lining up to sign him
Everyone knew about the Mike Modano scratchings at the time and Mike Commodore was very vocal about his time under Babcock. Im sure Shanny knew about that stuff. Not sure exactly when the Franzen stuff came out but with Shanny having so many close ties with Redwings players and staff, I'm sure he knew something about it.he was the most sought after coach that summer. Obviously those stories were not out yet. Every team was lining up to sign him
