An ASP expectations write up by Logan Horn...for what it worth...I personally expect ASP and Tuo to both get an NHL preview this spring, unless ASP outright wins the right to stay when he arrives.

Unless the Wings are out of it, I'd be somewhat surprised if the Wings use this Spring as an audition period for prospects. I'd expect ASP (and MBN) in GR,

Wasn't it Lidstrom that said they are only putting him on the team if he earns a top 4 spot out of camp. They don't seem to want to put him in the AHL unless they have to. Unless we sign a top 4 dman he basically will have to beat out chiarot, which shouldn't be difficult.

It really comes down to if aljo can hang with seider on the top pair. Then you can have aljo-mo, ed-asp, chiarot-gus

Could see them both saying up... when Petry retiring.

We could go with 8 defenceman again.

Chiarot - Seider
Edvinsson - Johansson
Gustafsson - ASP

Holl

I can't do a 4th year of Chiarot playing in the top pairing.

That is a mega failing on Yzerman if we do again. Also think ASP needs more of a steady guy than unpredictable Gus.

I gotta believe Yzerman is looking for a top 4 LD this summer. He's got the cash. God I hope so.

Without a doubt, the safer bet, but there are times when post TDL expanded roster walk on players stick with the big club because they do not consume any of the 4 call up slots. Usually college grads, but I could see where one or both could be kept on the wings roster yet not exactly play out past their 10 game slides unless they know Todd's socks off. I believe if they don't play 11 NHL games, they are still eligible to be assigned to the Griffs for their playoffs....

It should be an interesting spring if the wings are in a post season drivers seat come April.

As for Holl and Gus I'm hoping for them being able to get moved more easily with the cap going up, some of the cheaper teams might need to add cap.
I personally really believe ASP should just play with Ed. Ed consistently makes whoever he plays with look better. He did it his first 8 games with chiarot, he did it with petry, he did it with seider and now he's doing it with AJ. I also think their styles would go well together as well. Ideally we play our top 2 pairs equally because they will both be that good. And then in key situations we put Ed and seider together.

That should be one long-term option. And slot Johansson with Seider.

We are currently Top5 NHL team (under McLellan) with Chiarot at the Top pair. Under right coaching, it does not seem any kind of problem for success. And Seider is getting better and better every season, when Chiarot keeping his level.

I don't believe in buyouts or anythin like that (Holl). Contracts will be lived through, cause the terms are short and team is winning (also with Holl). They are scapegoats but still - the team is winning.

Everyone knows, or I think they do that I'm pro Benny. When we want to be a serious threat, Chiarot needs to slot where he should be, 3rd pairing LD.

Yep, Holl is not going anywhere unless SY needs a contract slot (team is allowed 50, but have some ELC's coming up), he is an expensive 7/8D, but seems to play better when he doesn't play every game...and he will be gone after next season.

Unless we can find a defenseman to play on the top pairing for several years, I would go with Chiarot at the start of next season, and maybe make a trade for someone on an expiring contract that will sign long term. Depends where we are in the standings.

I remember Jacon Chychrun did like Detroit a lot at some Senators videos.

Of these I think Provorov would be my choice. I want a defensive lock down guy that will allow Seider to do his thing offensively. Also gives us a Russian to help Buch settle in as well. 2nd choice would probably be Chychrun but that's a bit more than I'd want to spend on someone I'm hoping is a #4 dman within 2 years. I'm not really into contracts taking guys into 35+ years.

I’d love to add Chychrun. With the season he’s having and the cap skyrocketing, he’s about to get a massive payday

Gavrikov or Provorov would be my prefered additions. Chychrun feels too expensive. Orlov and/or Burns would be decent options though due to age more placeholders.

Gavrikov or Provorov would be awesome. They could pair up with Seider, or free up Ed to play with Seider and hold down the second pairing.

PROVOROV-SEIDER
EDVINSSON-EKBLAD
CHARIOT-JOHANSON

- creates a rock solid defense for many years without wrecking salary cap structure
- adequate at center with kasper or dannyson possibly becoming 2C
- adequate on wing with mazur-ammo-butchy-finns-nygard-plante-james-kiiskinen on deck feasibles
- pelli-bum-maybe wally are feasible d reinforcements
- two top goaler prospects on deck
- also at center could sign a short term proven scoring vet to bring along kasper n danny
- i prefer a bottom heavy team without constant cap pressure or pressure on highly paid players to perfprm plus stay healthy . and to jack up offense ide always look to sign proven old codger scorers like kane to short terms , less risk that way plus the old proven vets help to raise the newbies just like yzerman-lirinov-hull-luc , and scotty , raised the euro kids ! and the proven vets on your pp become your enforcer because opponant coaches shake like a leaf when they see them sitting on your bench
