Slam-dunk in the NHL next year. Too good at skating/positioning, NHL ready with the puck. Not small.

I just wonder if he'll be a bottom pairing defender with PP time or if he'll establish himself quickly next to someone like Edvinsson.

I'm not sure you remember prime Karlsson before his Achilles injury. The guy was another level and arguably better than Makar. Never once had a partner as good as Toews and definitely was underrated defensively.

He never had a team close to what Makar had.

People chalk way too much up to his achilles injury. His poor decision making and random lazy plays in his own end are not a result of a rehabbed achilles. If anything he is overrated defensively. He's an insanely talented offensive player who becomes much more human when he has to fit into a team structure.

Between the two I'll take the one who can play defense and kill penalties.

We have seider and edvinsson to kill penalties. I'd take either prime Makar or prime 3 time Norris winner Karlsson any day of the week. Stop trying to downplay how dominant Karlsson was for most of his career.

I'm not downplaying it. He was extremely dominant offensively for stretches of his career. He won his last Norris because he could go all out offensively because there were no stakes. And like I said, when he has to play in a team structure that's not built around him he becomes less impressive. His years in San Jose and Pittsburgh highlight that.

It's always better to have another talented player who can generate offense and play defense. If the Wings have, Seider, Ed, and even Makar-light, that's an amazing top 3. If he's more like Karsson-light then it's basically hoping for a better version of Ghost.

Makars defensive numbers are much higher because of Toews. Frankly he's a bit overrated defensively and Toews makes up for that.

The point is that either one would be a blessing to have.

But I'm sure you'll argue about that for the sake of arguing about it.

Makar is an elite skater. That can make up for a lot of mistakes.

I'll take Makar or Karlson, but ASP is probably gonna be more like Ghost with better defense. If he winds up being elite, it'll be the most delicious crow I've ever eaten, lol.

It's not for the sake of arguing about it. It's a difference of opinion. It happens.

ASP - I am missing what others are seeing. I want to be wrong, but after this tourney, I don't see his game translating to the NHL level. I can't see him pinned in his own zone playing D. I can't see him skating his way through the neutral zone and I can't see him dominating on the PP from the point.

I thought the critique of him by the NHL Network commentator was spot on.

I will get flamed for this one, but I would package him before the luster comes off this prospect.

Only 19 , when we drafted him it was 3-4 years before he is NHL. So far he is improving every year and he is doing it faster than I thought he would. Nothing has changed , second line rd pp specialist.
