Confirmed with Link: Avs Trade Jack Drury + Chase Bradley + '29 3rd to Nashville for Fedor Svechkov + Zachary L’Heureux

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Okay, I just think that this is going to be a player that the team is going to really regret not having. I also put more value than most in depth, face off ability and defensive impact.
If the team comes to desperately miss a 4C things have gone horribly wrong. Don’t get me wrong Drury was an awesome depth C, but of all the guys who could leave he will likely be the easiest and cheapest to replace.

Okay, so who?
If at some point I get employed by the Avs org, I promise to relay info here.

As of now, we have one dman signed that’s on the left, Toews.

That’s it. So clearly dmen are coming in.

And as much as a good player Drury was for us, his position at 4C is far less valuable than our 2LHD. It’s vital we get a quality player. And we need the cap space to be able to afford a quality player there.

I don’t agree with that at all. Who do you replace him with?
Well we have Hughes and Svechkov on the roster now who can take the 4C role. And if they don’t do that getting a 4C at thr TDL isn’t horribly cost prohibitive. Who else would you move you clear cap space? Could’ve moved Roy over Drury, but Drury would’ve cost more than Drury on his next contract.

You could try to force Nelson to move(incredibly unlikely)somewhere else, but then you are looking at 2C prices or more in replacing Nelson. You aren’t moving Necas, Toews, Landy, Malinski, or Manson at this point.

Drury, Nuke, and Colton are the 3 clear and obvious casualties this offseason to create some flexibility cap wise to bring in the defenseman we so desperately need.

Yep Svechkov, Hughes, Roy, Kelly. Offseason is going to be for fixing the defense, in season will add to the forward group as mentioned by @RoyIsALegend

If we put it all together, it's:

  • One year of Ross Colton
  • One year of Jack Drury
  • Random AHLer
in exchange for:
  • Multiple years of L'Heureux
  • Multiple years of Svechkov
  • Roughly 6 million in extra cap space
  • 3rd round pick
Win?
And if LHeureux ends up being a random AHLer and Svechkov goes to Russia to play with Bardakov? Hopefully Sleepy Joe knows what he's getting.

I'll miss Colton. Since the NHL didn't allow for a Western semi finals this year I will choose to fondly remember this as Colton's final play in an Avs sweater:

Drury’s time as an Av was coming to an end, the clock was ticking. We were never going to pay him what he was looking for. Bednar does not believe he’s a 3C, full stop.

CMac knows what Drury’s camp are looking for in a new contract and must be comfortable with both the cost in dollars and either giving him 3C, or paying him as a 3C at the very least.

ZLH adds some much needed grit and assholery to our lineup. Type of guy who you hate playing, especially in a playoff series. Remains to be seen how much Bednar either neuters him or hates him altogether. Make no bones about it, he will get some stupid penalties and 100% doesn’t try to “stay ahead of pucks.” He wants to finish checks, he wants to hurt, he wants to be a cheap little shit, he wants to instigate.

I don’t know anything about Svechkov, but will do my rounds and see what the staff think about him. They must like him, otherwise the 3rd round pick wouldn’t have been included.

I like the deal, but I was never as big of a Jack Drury fan as some here were. I just find him to be awful offensively and he has one of the worst shots I’ve seen in the NHL. Complete muffin of a shot. He’s very good defensively, but we aren’t in a position to pay $3m+ for a defensive 4C. It’s simply the reality of our cap situation.

One move down, the big one to go.

They are two separate things. The pk has a huge hole and hopefully they re-sign kulak. But again, who is the top 4 lhd that is going to fix things. I agree, d needs to be addressed, but losing drury is going to hurt a lot more than you realize.

It's a gamble. 3rd round pick and 6 million are huge for us though.

We gave up the pick to Nashville, no picks came our way in this one.

Nevermind, I forgot Ross netted us two 3rds, so we gain one overall.

Hughes doesn’t play a 4C game, svechkov is a humongous downgrade seeing as though he’s never filled that role. Again, who is this mythical defenseman? What assets will be used to procure him? Is the team clearing space for nurse?

No one has any idea exactly who they are targeting for a top 4 D-man. The info we have is Colton, Nuke, and Drury will be gone and the front office is going to try to use the cap space and assets from trading said players to get a top 4 D-man.

Let's see what they do over the weekend and on July 1st before worrying too much.
