  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Sakic also signed off on Duhaime, Trenin, etc. There is a very clear disconnect between management and a coach who has zero tolerance for these kinds od players.
"These kinds of players" are NOT necessary to win in the regular season but they are ESSENTIAL in the playoffs. Hopefully Sakic sees that just like everyone else that bednar's approach is flawed for the playoffs.

Really surprised that Sakic would make this trade knowing the kind of player L'Heureux is and knowing who his coach is. Gives me hope that we get a new coach at some point during the season.

I'm not sold Drury wanted to stay here, and if you have a depth piece that is going to be disgruntled you trade him if the price is right.

He's 26, one year away from free agency and would've been stuck in a pure shutdown #4C role. So even if he signs for under $3 mil, I don't know if he would've with the Avs. At the very least he would've made it very difficult.

Congrats guys, I think both guys can easily be better than Drury. Svechkov was snake bitten last year but started coming around at the end of the season, ZLH should have been up all year but Brunette is the worst coach in the league.
Thank you for your assessment of these two young players.

However, Jared Bednar is the worst coach in the league. The dude has a goalie stick up his rectum and is as flexible as a steel girder. We got swept out of the WCF because of his inflexibility.

It is a failure to have not looked to move something else out to retain him.

Drury want to be a 3C and the Avs don't see him as one, which is why they went out and got Kadri and Roy. There was no other alternative, the Avs already have to trade Nuke to make space to ice a defense. They don't have anyone else to get to keep a 4C making 4m+

Well we are cooked. This trade is pathetic. Give up the best player by a mile, and get absolute shit in return.

Also Joe might want to consider trading with someone other than Nashville. There is no requirement to only trade with our former GM.

Be prepared for a dog shit summer and a very disappointing season next year. Everyone else is getting better while we get worse.

If Drury was going to walk, better to get something. I wonder if this is also clearing space for Makar.

1) How do you know they didn't do that? 2) Drury is good, but 4C is easily the position the add to at the TDL if needed along with winger.
Okay, I just think that this is going to be a player that the team is going to really regret not having. I also put more value than most in depth, face off ability and defensive impact.

I really liked Drury and I personally believe he has the potential to end up a really strong #3C for the next 5 to 7 years. Personally, I never believe the rhetoric that he's only a #4C. I think that was done to keep the AAV down on his next contract. I think he has more to give production wise - 30-35 points per year while providing solid defense and faceoff prowess is plenty good on a contender - as long as they have a good 1-2 center combo. He ups his game in the playoffs too. I feel like he's a good get for Nashville.

For Svechkov, I remember liking him his draft year - really good two-way game but I'm very scared of receiving a young, Russian, center prospect from the Nashville Tamperors. Sounds like I've seen this movie before and it didn't end well (f***ing kamenev)....

For L'Heureux - well I mentioned just yesterday that with Colton gone we didn't have much in terms of players that play an irritating style and guys who will take the body... he's certainly a guy who will do both those things. He will be instantly hated by bednar.

If we put it all together, it's:

  • One year of Ross Colton
  • One year of Jack Drury
  • Random AHLer
in exchange for:
  • Multiple years of L'Heureux
  • Multiple years of Svechkov
  • Roughly 6 million in extra cap space
  • 3rd round pick
Win?
They have a huge hole on the 4th line and PK now, and cap space that is going to be spent on…….

It's a gamble. 3rd round pick and 6 million are huge for us though.
