Bednar doesn’t make roster decisions. He can say what he may want, but the results will speak for themselves. It doesn’t matter how much he loves Georgiev, if his SP is under 900 and the risk of missing the playoffs is possible, Bednar won’t control anything.
He and he alone decides who plays and how much. I'm guessing that he has a lot to say about who the Avs acquire.... at least being part of the conversation and being consulted.

I'm also speculating that Bednar is a major factor as to why goalie moves didn't happen this off season. Bednar has been fine with George's performance overall. He probably reasoned that Nuke was responsible for the Av's playoff exit last season versus laying any of it at his goaltenders feet.

I think we need all the wood. We got Miles Wood and Scott Wedgewood now, we have to get Blackwood too along with Preds prospect Matthew Wood, then hire Woody Harrelson and James Woods to be the Avs official team spokesmen, and get Woody Woodpecker to be the team’s mascot

Can you handle all that Wood?

I mean, didn’t they have to waive Kahkonen in order to activate Nuke? If not then I don’t get that move at all.

I would have appreciated you liking my post before pointing out that I'm oblivious to the cap.

Those who are complaining about paying more money to Wedgewood compared to what they paid Annunen, you simply can’t keep getting cheap goalies and expect good results. If you want upgrade in net, you have to pay more.

At this point, getting any goalie is a gamble unless you’re getting a sure thing like a Vasilevskiy or Hellebuyck. Even if we give up assets and trade for Gibson, that’s also a gamble. You just never know what you gonna get from majority of the goalies in the NHL, but to have an upgrade in net, you simply have to pay more money.

I want prime a prime Carey Price level goalie for Peter Budaj money. Don't @ me.

First I read it's Blackwood, not Wedgewood and I was damn happy..

Wtf is this.

It's lol sauce

I did the same thing. The funny part is he may be good enough to actually force Bednar to play him over George without evening being that good.

Which would be hilarious in its own right, and will still f*** Georg's head up forcing a move even more.

From all accounts Wedgewood is the quintessential backup. He knows his role, he isn't trying to push for the starter's role, and he likes to prop up the #1 guy.

I think it's VERY telling that they chose to target Wedgewood of all goalies given who their other guy is.

Yeah, to let Gibson do his thing once we trade for him.

I'm not sure George keeps the net against an actual NHL backup at this point.

I’ll agree on the part about Bednar making his own lineup decisions. Possibly even suggesting to management the style of players he would like.

The rest of your post, seems like an enormous amount of presumption. Is there anything to even remotely back this up?

Are you thinking Annunen was being vocal about starting? The trade makes a lot more sense to me if that’s the case.

I dunno - our window seems like it’s limited. Bringing in a vet (if he pans out) may be the right choice here vs banking on Annunen’s youth. We have one of the worst goaltender combos in the league - if Annunen couldn’t bust out here, he’ll probably have trouble everywhere for a while.

It's better to accept it now than hoping for something that will never come.

Georgiev is their guy for this season and they'll get a new starter next summer.

Absolutely I think he was. He is 24. No goalie gets drafted and developed to be a backup at his age.

Wedgewood gave an interview last Summer about how to be a backup goalie. He said he struggled early in his career mentally because he wanted to push so hard to be #1 and he would sometimes want to see the other guy falter so he would get more playing time.

Said he didn't truly figure out how to be a backup goalie until he got to Dallas and knew his job was to help Oettinger, not take time from him and cause him to worry.

This move makes too much sense and worries me.

Don’t be so sure. If they’re already reacting to the noise and given Georgiev’s proclivity for downward spirals, then factor in being in a WC spot...
