Avs trade Annunen and 2025 6th for Scott Wedgewood (NSH)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

This is awful. Why the hell we did this?????

Doesn't fix anything.

This was the f***ing trade they made? This!? Take on more salary, lose a pick and this was the goalie they got? They'll do absolutely anything, but address the f***ing elephant in the room.
Exactly. Totally unnecessary move.

This feels like a cheaper version of the RyJo trade, throwing a hope and prayer up while knowing that there’s a 99% chance it doesn’t work out

Exactly. Why we didn't move Annunen earlier and then keep Kahkonen? Seems like a way better way. Now we didn't upgrade anything and added salary. Total nonsense.

I don’t think this is the answer, but they’re looking for .900 level goaltending.

They’re hemorrhaging points in net. I get trying to dumpster dive before looking for a real solution. Too early for teams to sell.
It's true, that there's probably nothing better in the market, but this seems like an awful move to make.

Problem is, they need 900 and up goaltending from the guy that starts the majority of games. Getting 900 goaltending from the guy that might start 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 4 starts won’t stop them from hemorrhaging points.

Until the guy who gets the lions share of starts doesn’t start putting up consistent, quality starts, the problem isn’t even addressed.

This isn’t even a bandaid type move. This is like you have an open wound, and you put a bandaid on a wound that’s in another spot.

You add cap and lose a pick. Just seems totally unnecessary, unless they move Georgiev too.

Juice wasn't good so I get it, we got a more reliable backup out of it. The part of this that bothers me is that means Georgiev is still the starter unless wedgewood beats him out. If we were going for a goalie it's gotta be someone who can push Georgiev to become the starter again or lose the spot. I don't think wedgewood is that guy

This is all about quieting the noise by scapegoating Annunen when the bigger problem is Georgiev since he’s the starter. But the good thing about it is, if Georgiev doesn’t get it together (and with it being year two of this, there’s no reason to believe it will) it’s going to be difficult to blame someone else the next time. And if Georgiev doesn’t improve, the noise will be even more intense at some point making this a temporary solution in terms of quieting the noise.

Quite frankly, this feels like Compher-Johansen-Mittelstadt all but at G.

Wait until they’re fighting to make the playoffs because Georgiev-Wedgewood isn’t the answer mgt was hoping for.

And FYI, just a reminder for those of you who like to believe when “insiders” talk about the Avs, this was Johnson a couple of days ago:

Johnson: “Going against all logic, everything I’m hearing is the opposite. They are not desperate for a move and believe Georgiev is turning a corner. They might wait until the trade deadline to get a more capable backup, but there’s nothing imminent from the Avs side on a goaltending move.”

Added almost double the salary on a guy with a .878sv% who also happens to have an extra year after this with that money. To top it off we gave them a draft pick.

This is legendary type stuff from that nerd GM. I seriously can’t stand him.
Honestly prefer the Nemeth and Eller trades to this. Embarrassing. Trotz took him to the shed on this one
