Really like this signing. Low risk, no term, and pushes O'Connor down to the 4th line where he should be.

I'd wager that they plan is to add a 2C at the deadline and thus the playoff lineup will be:

Landeskog --- MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen -------- TDL 2C ----- Rantanen
Newhook ------- Compher ---- Rodrigues
Cogliano ---------- Meyers ----- O'Connor/Helm

This addition means there's one less forward to have to add at the deadline, so they can put all their firepower towards a 2C.

Yeah I absolutely love that lineup assuming the 2C is a 50-60 point guy who can skate. Rodrigues’s game fits the Avs system to a tee. Adding another great skater will be huge. He’s a big add for our depth.

I really dislike this deal if they want him as the 2C for the season tho. I trust our pro scouts more than any team so maybe I’m wrong I just don’t see him being able to fill that role. Didn’t he have something crazy like 30 in 33 when Malkin/Crosby were hurt? Part of me wonders if C-Mac is buying into that thinking he can be the 2C.

ERod's transition numbers were very strong in PIT. At the least, he should be a good stylistic fit with COL.

With the quality around him, I could see him getting back to 40+ points. Not elite 2C production, but should be good enough for the Avs to stay around first in the West.

I would hope he takes Compher's place on PP1 if Compher was initially the plan. Much, much better shot.

After that, though? Meh. He's a 3rd line forward. If the Avs think he's the solution at 2C heading into the playoffs, they're in for a super rude awakening.
I'm looking forward to a season of "meh, Rodrigues isn't a 2c for the playoffs", until the Avs add an actual 2C for the playoffs.

Sure, why not?

Deal.

Everything is going as planned. Before long, I'm going to have your social security number.

I liked keeping the cap space for a 2C but this does make the players in the bottom 6 line up a lot better. I will trust our pro scouts on this one as they have found good fits for this team pretty consistently.

Wonder why this happened 10 days before camp. Did ERod come down on price or term? Did we come up after seeing Rant back at camp?

Seriously doubt it had anything to do with Rant.

Very likely he had a number of teams interested at certain price points and he took his time.

He will be a solid rotational center for us to try different lineups with.

Great move.

He doesn't solve the 2C issue outright, but he's a welcomed middle 6 option stoll. I think he has a much better chance to be a suitable 2C for us then JTC or Newhook.

And we should still have about $1.5M in space to bank during the season and go add a real 2C at the deadline.

One of the best pro scouts left the team recently.

Dont need to worry about playoffs with Georgiev in net.

It's a safe pick. We have Newhook and Myers who we really have high hopes for, but both are very unpoven still.

He is a guy that can play middle 6 as we give both of them a bit of time to settle in.

Yes. You need depth to win cups as we just witnessed. Tons of important goals were scored by our depth. Manson, Compher, Helm, etc.

Raising the floor is important and Rodrigues does just that.

This is good because we buy time to evaluate newhook better now. There is competition for the 2 and 3 c position. This also gives us more options if there are injuries. Erod could even be a high end 3c at the end of the year. For 2 million he can pump up his stats for a bigger payday after. Our last 2c got a pretty big bump lol. Win win for both sides

Love this. I have no idea if he can replicate last season but at least 1 year will keep him motivated and with our cap situation, this is the best possible guy to get
