One thing I'd like to see Newy do more, is shoot the puck.

Only 24 shots in 15 games on the year. He has a really good shot and that's evident in his shooting percentage right now. No doubt he's getting lucky to score as much as he has on those shots but ya its also a good shot.

Hopefully as he gets more comfortable on the team and more confident in himself, those shots will come.

I want Bednar to stick Newhook between Gabe and Mikko, ES and PP. Watch his production soar, and take over the Calder race. If for no other reason than to annoy the crap out of the DET and ANA fans that are plugging their rookies. (And now FLA too). But I would like to see his role expanded in general. Let Kadri continue to rock with his line, shift Newhook up to the top line to build some confidence with better linemates.

Newhook has looked great since MacKinnon went down. Not a surprise that if you surround these types of guys with actual talent, they flourish. We owe it to Newhook to get him some talent on the third line if that's where he's going to play.

In the preseason predictions thread I said Newhook would struggle to produce in the NHL and disappoint a lot of fans. Boy am I happy to have been so wrong on that one. He's looked great since his AHL stint.

Every single step he's taken in his development has given nothing but confidence he's going to be the 2C of the future.

That demotion to Loveland was the best thing to happen to him. I guess he needed a reminder that nothing is going to be given to him and that he needed to work in order to play in the NHL. Seems Alex has learned from that. Credit to Jared.

That was right around the time Bednar called him out a bit to the media and used Byram as an example of a guy who wasn't playing in his comfort zone. Seemed to be the perfect recipe to get Newhook going.

One of Bednar's strengths has always been getting the kids transitioned into the NHL.

Thought he played one of his best games in the last outing against Buffalo. And he did it playing in a top 6 role on the wing with Kadri. Bodes well for his future as a top 6'er.

I've said it before, but I get legit Chris Drury vibes from him. He's just a gamer through and through. Has that determination to come up with big plays in big moments and almost seems like he's playing his own game.

Looking forward to watching his NHL development, and especially how he'll play in the playoffs.

What?? Bednar hates kids. He never ever gives them chances.

Newhook rocks. Plays with intensity, skilled with the puck, and I guess some of us are not impressed with his skating but as long as it's not a liability, he brings a lot to the table... Rooting hard for this guy to become the 2C of Destiny

He's exactly what I hoped Jost would become honestly. I knew Newhook had the higher potential, and will probably get better still, but this is what I wanted Jost to be. Rock solid 3C right now, and getting better. His defensive game is already miles ahead of most his age.

Gonna be the buzzkill… the skating will be an issue up the lineup. At his size, he’s not a good enough skater to be a high impact 2C unless it improves.

I think you might be the only one or one of the only ones still harping on this. His skating has been very good this season. He's got great bursts, keeps his feet moving, has great edges and is very quick at closing the gap on the forecheck.

I don't think his skating is going to hinder him whatsoever.

I mean he's the same size as Naz and a better skater than Naz. He certainly isn't as skilled as Naz though. I still am on the fence on whether he's a 2C or not but I don't think it'll be his skating that holds him back.

I member being told he would be elite (skating wise)… the bar has already lowered. It will get lowered further at 17-18 minutes a night. Under 6’ centers are not very good at both ends of the ice without great skating. Just doesn’t happen in the NHL. I really hope to be wrong.

O'Reilly isn't a good skater and he's elite at both ends. Its about hockey IQ and anticipation as much as it's about skating and size/reach.
