"A draft you get two players out of is a good one". Since Newhook and Byram were both in the 1st half of round 1, At least one of Helleson, Stienberg, Beaucage or Minor need to turn out to erase that asterisk.
Helleson looks legit"A draft you get two players out of is a good one". Since Newhook and Byram were both in the 1st half of round 1, At least one of Helleson, Stienberg, Beaucage or Minor need to turn out to erase that asterisk.
I'm calling it right here...Stienberg will be a regular bottom-6 on the Avs unless he gets traded. That he does. And three longshots.
And he's exactly what this defense needs right now. If we're getting greedy maybe he'll develop a mean streak.Helleson looks legit
After the two year conniption about that pick it would be hillarious.I'm calling it right here...Stienberg will be a regular bottom-6 on the Avs unless he gets traded.
What I like most about Newhook is his motor. He is fast and hard on the forecheck. Makes good plays too. Easily a 2C in the near future.
I want Bednar to stick Newhook between Gabe and Mikko, ES and PP. Watch his production soar, and take over the Calder race. If for no other reason than to annoy the crap out of the DET and ANA fans that are plugging their rookies. (And now FLA too). But I would like to see his role expanded in general. Let Kadri continue to rock with his line, shift Newhook up to the top line to build some confidence with better linemates.
That demotion to Loveland was the best thing to happen to him. I guess he needed a reminder that nothing is going to be given to him and that he needed to work in order to play in the NHL. Seems Alex has learned from that. Credit to Jared. In the preseason predictions thread I said Newhook would struggle to produce in the NHL and disappoint a lot of fans. Boy am I happy to have been so wrong on that one. He's looked great since his AHL stint.
Every single step he's taken in his development has given nothing but confidence he's going to be the 2C of the future.

What?? Bednar hates kids. He never ever gives them chances. That was right around the time Bednar called him out a bit to the media and used Byram as an example of a guy who wasn't playing in his comfort zone. Seemed to be the perfect recipe to get Newhook going.
One of Bednar's strengths has always been getting the kids transitioned into the NHL.
Newhook rocks. Plays with intensity, skilled with the puck, and I guess some of us are not impressed with his skating but as long as it's not a liability, he brings a lot to the table... Rooting hard for this guy to become the 2C of Destiny

This is nonsense the guy is a terrific skater.Gonna be the buzzkill… the skating will be an issue up the lineup. At his size, he’s not a good enough skater to be a high impact 2C unless it improves.
He’s really not… he’s above average and has some strong points, but terrific, nope. Even with that, at his size he needs to be nearing elite. This is nonsense the guy is a terrific skater.
I think you might be the only one or one of the only ones still harping on this. His skating has been very good this season. He's got great bursts, keeps his feet moving, has great edges and is very quick at closing the gap on the forecheck.Gonna be the buzzkill… the skating will be an issue up the lineup. I member being told he would be elite (skating wise)… the bar has already lowered. It will get lowered further at 17-18 minutes a night. Under 6’ centers are not very good at both ends of the ice without great skating. Just doesn’t happen in the NHL. I really hope to be wrong.I think you might be the only one or one of the only ones still harping on this. His skating has been very good this season. I don't think his skating is going to hinder him whatsoever.
