The talk of Newhook’s skating has always been so puzzling to me. It’s like some people expect him to be a Kreider or Nichushkin type skater when he has always been a Duchene/Skinner type of skater. He creates space out of nothing with his quick feet and edges. He was never meant to be a power forward blowing the doors off defenseman wide.
To top it off his straight line speed is still pretty good but it’s certainly not what makes his skating what it is.

Good positioning also helps. You don’t need to be fast to get to the right place, when you are in the right place to begin with.

I wasn't mad, I like LOC. I don't think he is the player imbeciles are trying to make him out to be. Same with Girard.

Newhook looks like a full time NHLer now which is nice to see...especially after a not-so-good training camp.

To be fair judging Habs players this year is literally like judging Avs players during the 2016-17 season.
When other fanbases wanted to give us a 2nd rounder for Landy.

Newhook is really battling out there and trying to be good defensively too. Great to see the confidence in his game. Now that he knows what it feels like, I think he's well on that path of being an every day dependable producer.

Everyone is clamoring over Zegras right now because he occasionally does flashy things but if the Avs had traded up to grab a center after drafting Byram I would have preferred Cozens. He was outstanding in the WJCs and he's putting up good numbers on an absolutely horrible Buffalo team.
Also le sigh, if Byram could stay healthy he very well could be leading this list the way he was playing.
