If you let JT motha fugging stanley cup winner Compher go to UFA you'll end up losing a glue player in your middle 6.

And have to trade away a future captain to plug the hole at C and then overpay that 2C/3C.
I don't see how that's related to Blackwood. It's far from a surefire thing but if it works then they're finally not having to continually sacrifice valuable assets to plug the hole in net.

Cap's obviously an issue but the first three guys who should be offered up to make the room should be Wood, Manson, and Colton. In that order.

Very happy with this deal.

It has absolutely no effect on Nabokov. Let him work his way up. If he does great the Avs can deal him or Blackwood for something good in a few years.

Do you think Malinski could realistically replace Manson at 2RHD? I guess in that case one has to play Girard-Makar and Toews-Malinski since Girard-Malinski is a bit too small (not that Toews is much bigger).

If they move Manson perhaps they'd have to make a hockey trade in parallel to replace him. Gotta have some meat in the top 4 ideally so it's not that great to have to move Manson.

I can see why the room improved so much with this effervescent personality lighting it up

Well, the Avs have had their share of intense ass*&les in net the past 5 years. Maybe it is time to get a guy who seems like he is 'lighting it (one) up.'

Short story: On my school team, we had two goalies - the starter who was super polished with about a million bucks in gear his dad bought him, and the backup who was stoned all the time ( in class, practice, etc) and got his equipment from Eddie Giacomin's attic. When it came to the far more competitive travel team, the few of us from the same school convinced the coach that the stoner was the better choice. He ran a GAA in the low ones while his starter counterpart ( who had to travel 3 hours to the next closest team) threw down something over 3. That was back in the 1970s so I forget the details. Just that the guy who hit the parking lot between periods to light one up was better in net.

I don't see the Avs moving Manson.

He fills a role nobody else does on Colorado, and he's not exactly overpaid IMO.

I think Manson is far down the list of potential trade bait for the Avs. Even on the active roster I think players like Colton, Wood, Girard, even Nichushkin and Lehkonen are higher than he is and I believe the Avs recognize that, too.

Congrats on locking down Blackwood. We're happy for him.

No we had a goalie play for us with a white mask, no decals. It was probably the Finn we had for a hot minute.

You can see very clearly what's going to happen in various scenarios.

What's not clear is how they will keep Drouin, and I think both the player, the team, and Mack all want that to happen.

I don't know why people are so worked up about losing Manson when he hasn't played all that well following a stellar 2022 playoff run. He's either been hurt or mostly ineffective, those rare instances where he's fully healthy and actually using his physicality properly have been few and far between. Bottom line, you want to find a guy who isn't living up to his contract, look no further.

Do I think Malinski is a viable long-term replacement? No, but short term he was actually much better than Manson was this year. Lately he hasn't been, but I never thought he was a 4D to begin with.

Sure, get another big boy, I don't care, just get someone who can actually move properly and win board battles. That to me is way, way more important than some guy who throws his body around. Manson, to his credit, does move pretty well for a big guy, but I don't like the fact that he goes full Ryan Graves these days and jumps into the play WAY too often, and he's losing too many battles down low. I'd also add that I don't like him as a PKer but as I've stated before I think that's as much to do with Bednar's overly conservative system than anything else.

Maybe the Sharks mask was actually giving him superpowers, and without it, he becomes another bum? Has anyone thought about that before wanting a new mask?????

Yes, and if he gets lit up his first game with the new one he will promptly burn it and go back to the old mask.

You don't think there is a chance all of our D are told to go if they think there is an opening?

If he was as good as you want him to be, he'd have a higher price tag IMO.

I do think they'll move on in the offseason if he doesn't bring back playoff Manson in a meaningful way. Nice thing is, these guys are always wanted. EJ is evidence lol.

Yeah a top 4 RHD like Manson with only 1 year left at $4.5m would certainly have suitors. Don't think the Avs would be too keen to move him though given the makeup of the rest of their D group.

It depends on what else they can find most likely. Would be nice to have Helleson back lol.

I could see 3C, or 4D being a position they spend assets on to get a retained contract either now or in off season.
