Sorry to bump this older game, but I have to go on a
@dahrougem2 like rant here for a minute about ice time.
MacKinnon, Mikko, Lehky, Makar, and Toews all with a 4+ minute shift to end the first of a back to back game, down two goals, in a game they clearly didn’t have it in them to come back.
Just because you can get away with it one game, or one season, doesn't mean it's a good idea. You won't get away with it forever. It will eventually bite you in the ass, and your stars will either get burnt out or injured, and it will severely impact your playoffs.
Makar with a 4:43 shift to end this game. You could visibly see him huffing and puffing on the blueline. Then after an icing on the Hawks with 10 seconds left, Bednar leaves him on the ice again down two goals? WTF? He literally just stayed hunched over with his stick on his knees after the face off because he was so tired.
Cale's no spring chicken anymore. He turns 27 next season, he won't have the healing and recovery powers of youth forever, and he's had a hip ailment nagging at him the prior couple seasons.
I honestly don’t understand why Bednar keeps doing this. He’s a very smart guy doing a very stupid thing.
