GDT: avs @ hawks - Jan 8 5:30 PM MST - emerg

Avs were so awful last night they crashed HF.

Not much to say about tonight, everyone was terrible, and that includes Bednar.
See, I had thought that JT Miller or Pettersson had been traded and that had caused the crash. I was confused when I checked the usual spots, there was no major hockey trade news

I was about to come here and destroy my keyboard but couldn't. Feels like conspiracy to me :sarcasm:

But yeah I don't care if its Trent Miner or ffin traffic cone in net you need to score more than 1 against the Chicago Bedards and you wasted a sick goal from Parssinen to lose the game.

Someone needs to give Mack some hard wood in the **** in the locker room to wake him up to score again. Im getting so angry with his alibi shooting at the moment.

I have spoken.

So the game yesterday was on TNT, but blacked out for CO residents and Altitude still hasn't signed, so I had no way to watch it yesterday lol. I was heading for a kitten at the halfway mark and realised we were losing, so I decided to do something else instead. Did we get goaler'd? Did Miner look like an AHL level goaler?

Another brutal effort by the Avs last night. This team has no consistency and cannot be taken seriously until they do.

I don't know what was more frustrating: Avs performance or the fact I could not rant about it on HFBoards. Sigh.

Tonight's game becomes a must win.

Yes, got goalied. It should have been 6-1 win, or worse. It probably should have been 3 or 4 - 0 after the 1st. Miner wasn't awful, but also wasn't great.

I don't make too many comments on games. But my Lord, what has happened to Casey? Players make mistakes, but he makes BIG mistakes. LIke, he has no clue what he is doing out on the ice mistakes. Drop passes to know one but the other team, running around in the neutral zone creating breaks the other way. Ugh.

I didn't think the effort was bad last night...

I think people are mostly just reading into a loss against a bad team.

They outshot them something like 35-20 and generally carried the play. At the end of the day goaltending was the difference. Mrazek had his best game in months and Miner isn't an NHL level goalie.

We all know @RoyIsALegend set this up to distract from another loss to his GDT record

Yup, this was on me. 0-6 in my last 6 GDTs.

Prepping the one for tonight as we speak…

Why do the Avs always play like idiots against bottom teams? I mean yeah they outshot the Hawks and stuff, but they try to get too cute and show off. MacK had an open net to shoot at, decided to get cute and makes a pass etc… they need to forget showboating and just keep it simple. Shoot the damn puck

Lazy f***ing effort, not much else to say. They simply don't put enough effort in when they play bottom feeders. Couple that with overly cute BS and you get that monstrosity of a game where a garbage team made you look silly.

I know they had 35 shots in this game, but I think Rycroft said it best (I think around the halfway mark of the 3rd). "The Avs are trying to make 7 or 8 passes before shooting the puck, looking for the perfect shot". They didn't want to go for the ugly goals, they wanted that highlight shit.

They're kind of incapable of scoring ugly goals at the moment. It's more than just being willing to get in those dirty areas on the ice and take more than a few cross checks to the back in order to do so. You have to be able to have that puck awareness AND be able to maneuver around in tight spaces to not only grab that puck, but put it on net past the goalie. Hawks were going out of their way to stack bodies in the slot area, the many rebounds Mrazek was coughing up never got touched by an Avs player as a result.

Avs in the past have made a point of getting guys who make their living in front of the net. Donskoi was such an acquisition. I'd argue Kadri was another guy. Obviously Nuke and Landy are hands DOWN their best net-front players. But apart from Lehkonen (and he has his limits in that department), there's no one who can really do that. So they kinda have to make the perfect snipe or it's not going in.

BTW I'm not making excuses for them--they SHOULD be taking more shots. But I can see why they're reluctant to. This is IMO a failure of management. Should've gone out of their way employing more guys who at the very least crash and bang in the slot area. Maybe Wood was an attempt to do that but it's failed miserably.

They need more volume shooters. If he weren't old AF, I'd love for them to get Taylor Hall. On a line with MacKinnon and Rantanen he'd absolutely dominate.

My problem with last night was, the line that was over passing the most, the was Lehky - MacK - Mikko with Makar on the ice, line. Like you said, Lehky is there to grab the garbage, but Makar and MacK wanted no part of that kind of play. They wanted to globetrott, and it backfired hard.

I'm at the point where I want to appoint Mitts as the next scapegoat.

That turn-over on the almost CHI goal while Avs were on the PP was just utterly awful hockey. Like what are you doing. Like, almost at the point, give me JTC back.

If you want Compher back, you need to go re-watch the Seattle series. What you meant to say was, "I want Kadri back".
