Id trade Ritchie now if it meant getting a competent 2C. He might very well become a great player, but the Avs are in win-now mode. Dont have time to waste.
This sounds like how the Sharks operated for about 5 years. What did it get them? We got a Cup in our pocket and as long as the star players don't become liabilities the window to get another is pretty long. Trading a top 10 prospect for a mid-tier 2C seems quite wasteful. If they were getting a guy who could perform like Kadri then its worth considering but these guys being discussed aren't anything close to Kadri-level so why would you do that?

You watch hockey long enough and you learn that prospects succeeding in the CHL/NCAA are anything but guaranteed to continue that success in the NHL. He might very well become a top 6 forward, but it wasn’t that long ago a lot of people on this board considered Alex Newhook as untradable, or even Chris Bigras. The CHL is the weakest it’s ever been, and I’m taking the known quantity every time.

Watching how terrible this team is this year when Makar or Mackinnon aren't going super nova, and still thinking the window is still wide open. Impressive analysis.

Yeah cause its proven that how a team plays in games 40-60 of an NHL season tell you with 100% accuracy how they will do in the playoffs. Got it.

Yes, Laughton, Dowd or Henrique will put them over the top...not. If they can get a real player at real cost (such as Middlestadt etc) maybe. If the Blues and Caps can win a Cup their window is more than two years. I remember you wanting to empty the cupboard last year too. It wasn't gonna happen then no matter what. They might have won a round (or two) but that is it. At least they now have some prospects instead that give them chips in going forward. CR isn't a lock but he could be a low cost EL contract that they desperately need. We also don't need the snark either. You can just agree to disagree.

- likely can’t acquire a legit 2C without giving up this guy or Byram.

-Avs can extend the window they will have to be careful with who they target as 2C (hopefully closer in age to Makar window) and then how they handle nuke, rants and landy contracts specifically.

Also wouldn’t hurt if one of these young guys like Byram Ritchie or gulyayev becomes a stud

All I can recall from last year were posters acting like Kevin F-ing Hayes would have solved problems and taken the Avs to the top. Every TDL gets ridiculous and after the nonsense chirping dies down we should all be glad they don't fall for giving up meaningful assets for rentals.

I thought most people kind of gave CMac a pass for last season's deadline, hindsight being 20/20.

Where I think he could get in trouble is that he didn't react soon enough to his gamble not working. There have been quite a few C's trade teams since the playoffs ended last season. MacFarland has landed Johansen and Wagner. I'm not oblivious to the fact that Joe signed off on Johansen. But I'm not so sure he's signed off on doing nothing since.

Joe learned from PL and PL pretty much ran the Avs like a family from what I understand. I can't see any situation where Joe would fire Chris this summer, so at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what I think, but damn I'd pay a penny for Joe's actual thoughts... or even Chris' for that matter.
