Getting excited to see Coyle on this team. Really thought this guy was the type who could have helped in past years. Sucks that we had to add quite a bit to trade our "2C" to get our "3C", but that has nothing to do with how he should be a good add for the team now. Wondering yet about the chemistry of who he'll mesh with best on our 3rd.

I get it, Mittelstadt was not a fit here, but to trade at such negative value is insane by MacFarland here. We pretty much traded our 2nd line centre plus some valuable pieces to downgrade to get a solid yet nothing special 3rd line centre. Makes no sense. I like Charlie as a player, even if I believe some of his offence is overrated/valued, he still has the talent to get the job done and that's what you want to see. High worth ethic and can grind down low, but to give up Zellers for him is asinine.

Mittelstadt was already worth 80% of Coyle's value at minimum, and at average level, was worth more than Coyle's value in terms of talent. When I saw the trade originally, it was 1v1, I told my buddy that there had to be more coming for us, but when I found out that we were the ones who gave up more, oh I was fuming. Yes, it makes our team better with better puzzle piece fits around, but to give up more is something I cannot wrap my head around.

He isn't. He is supremely talented with high IQ and passing ability. He just didn't fit our team when it came to 5v5 play and how Bednar wants puck hounds. He never was a puck hound ever in his life and he was never going to use his strengths on the powerplay, it happens. Even Tampa makes bad trades, like giving an entire car dealership of draft picks for a 4th line plug in Jennott. Obviously, MacFarland went into the deal wanting to lose it so he could GTFO, but through those optics, Sweeney took him to town when it didn't need to be that way. Boston is getting a reclamation project who's on a sweet cap deal if/when he's able to get back to a 60 point pace.

I get the sentiment, and I feel it too, but no dude..

We didn't have time to wait for that team who's willing to still see his upside, or take futures back. The only way we feel better about this optically is if we get a futures package, and then flip that for the player we need. But what contender wants to pay for what Mitts is currently doing? No team that has the patience to let him reset is giving us their non-late 1st rounder either.

Boston basically just did that. They could of probably got a late first and some change for Coyle with the prices at this deadline.

What he's shown the league, and for a long time was a guy in over his head in the top six. Soft play, sloppy play, weak on the puck, getting ran over defensively, and possession dying on his stick.

Yes there is reason to believe he can find a way to turn it around, but his value at 5.75M for two more years was at an all time low.

Bender put it best, he has late 1st rounder value and then full stop.

Coyle had more value, even if the upside is less. So we had to pay for it. It wasn't some astronomical price, but we were going to feel it.

I wish the best for Mitts, as I don't think it was a lack of effort. I hope Mitts turns into a 70 point 2C, he definitely got a lesson in what he needs to do to become that.

Good start for him so far.

Nah, he's bad. I've been on record saying I was duped by Mittelstadt.

To me, the last couple of seasons are the outliers. This is a slow, weak, ~35 point player who is incredibly turnover prone because he is always trying to make the fancy plays or dangle.

Good. Riddance. I'm sticking with my prediction that he is out of the NHL by the age of 30.

Yup. Theres linemates and playstyles that will work with Mitts, its just not here. Unfortunately, cmac didnt see that last year.

Coyle did for us in one game more than Mittelstadt has done in 4 months.

Enjoy that bum, the statisically improbable to play in the NHL 2nd, and the prospect who should be in college right now but is still playing USHL hockey.
Lol, Coyle fell off a cliff this year but I hope he wins a Cup as I was a fan. Like I said thanks for the 2nd & Zeller.

Enjoy the Bruins rebuild watching the POs.
No problem, I got to enjoy Bobby Orr's entire career, Bill Russell's mid to late 60's Celtics, Larry Bird's entire career, The BU 4 win Gold, Tom Brady's entire career,
and The Red Sox win 4 World Series, I'll survive.

How about Bourque winning in Boston?

Always remember your superiors, son.
