Confirmed with Link: Avs acquire Casey Mittelstadt for Bo Byram

Well there’s a ton of pressure for Mitts to perform.

Bo has elite #1 Dman potential. If Mitts isn’t a solid 2 way centre that puts up 70-80 points then we lose this trade bigtime.

Stud Dmen are so much harder to find and if his is 1st game shows how good he will be in Buffalo this one is going to hurt.

We should have traded G for a centre but G is more valuable to us than anyone else and we wouldn’t have got as big of a return

Byram was never going to reach that level being stuck behind Makar with no powerplay time. There was no room for him to grow. I'd rather the kid flourish elsewhere than be stuck in limbo here.

I'd also rather the team make bold moves for a Cup push than hold onto the hopes that a guy rebounds.

I know scoring has exploded, but what 2nd line 2 way centers are putting up 70-80 points? And I simply don't see Bo reaching this elite potential anymore, despite his good showing tonight. Could happen. But this board has bitched and moaned about this being our window, over and over again. CMac is going for it. End of story. It's hard to win a cup and it takes sacrifices. If we lose in the playoffs, it was still the correct gamble.

I like the trade still. I said when it went down it’s a good hockey trade.

Mitts will do well here and Byram will do well in Buffalo. There’s no way he would get 25 minutes a night here or be on the PP1.

I hope we can resign Walker and he plays well for us.

We are a better team with Walker and Mitts than with Byram.

There are scenarios where the bolded might not be the case IMO, because you don't need hindsight to see them as possibilities.

Like if they lose some close games in the 1st round and get eliminated, and he doesn't produce in the playoffs since he's never played there before, and another 2C option does. Or maybe Girard gets injured again, or Girard and Toews get shut down and the D core doesn't produce enough offensive support.

Just hypothetical scenarios, but not crazy ones. They're certainly possible. Hopefully they don't happen though.

Yeah. Good points. And the most understated part of the trade, perhaps, is it's Buffalo. If he achieves his potential and that trips up the Avs, its at least in the finals. And its not like Buffalo is as celebrated as, say, O6 or a Canadian team.

And hypothetically any of our stars goes down. Dumb f*** argument. It would still be the correct gamble. We are imo dramatically improving 2C, mostly just by having a solid player instead of a garbage one. And the this point Walker fits better than Byram.

We are currently set up better for this cup run than we were. That is the point.

All of our stars going down is not even remotely close to the scenarios I said, like Mittelsdadt not producing because he's never played in the playoffs, or Girard getting inured, because he has already.

How are you so worked up that you need to call people "dummy" and reply with "Dumb f*** argument?" You know how many posts I could say that about, including probably many of yours, and your analogy just now?

Can you tell which one is Toews and which is Makar?

Maybe you can, the fact that the numbers are so eerily close - an in many cases swing in the former's favor - highlights what an absolute beast Toews is.

The notion that he's declined in any significant way is pure fiction.

Any does not equal all. You misread. You are admittedly dealing hypotheticals. Mine were exaggerating, so be it.

The uh "dummy" was calling hench a dummy satirically... huh....

Oh hypothetically Mack goes down and we have RyJo as our 1C. Hypothetically this and that and this and that. "Dumb f***" might be mean, but it's not off the mark.

"You know how many posts I could say that about, including probably many of yours, and your analogy just now?"

I imagine many. I don't pretend to be an authority here, or have a remotely useful opinion. I'm just an often drunk fan. Ignore me

edit: apologies forsbergavs32
edit2: how about this. consider me, when I show up here, and often drunk moron.

I do wonder if there’s negative chemistry between Drouin and Mittelstadt. Both lean heavily into the playmaking side.

I like Val with Mitts a lot, but I feel like this forces the Avs to play Drouin with MacK more often than not.

Yeah Drouin and Mitts may get some shifts together to see how they work before the playoffs, but it seems like Drouin being stapled to Nate's wing might be the most likely scenario now.

Looking forward to seeing Mits tomorrow. Hopefully Val plays. Could finally get a look at a potential playoff top six with Lehky on the other wing.

I for one really hope Mitts and Byram both hit their full potential, and I believe both have higher chances of doing it with their new teams. (Even though I know both guys hitting is a “loss” trade.) I just love Bo and want him to earn his own 11M+ dollar contract and help lead the sabres to greatness(just not at the Avs expense)

I haven’t been posting much lately still lurking but damn this board do be negative sometimes. Look at how good the Avs squad looked after shedding johansen and getting that vote of confidence from the head office. Everyone knows their roles here now and I think it’s going to help a lot of guys play to the best of their abilities. I haven’t been this excited about Avs hockey since the 2022 team.

Sometimes?

Maybe Bo's not overrated, maybe it's just this place that underrated him. A GM traded Mittelsdadt straight up for him, who many really like, and a pretty hockey knowledgeable guy who's always 100% honest said this.

"(Bo's) an amazing player. I'm excited to see him develop in Buffalo. I think he's gonna be a stud. More so than he already is."

- Nathan MacKinnon
Buffalo's GM is easy to school. Not a lot of confidence there.

I guarentee that Leaky-Mitts-Nuke will work. Outstandingly after they work out any teething troubles.

Cmac proved he's a coward with this trade.
Makar is older, injury prone, makes double the cap hit, and is from Alberta.

Makar could've easily fetched a good 2C like JEE and Byram stepped into the top defense role at ES and PP. While having better hair.

Leaving enough cap space left over to trade for a real goalie.

We should had gotten Wennberg to replace Landeskog looks also.

Maybe you can, the fact that the numbers are so eerily close - an in many cases swing in the former's favor - highlights what an absolute beast Toews is.

The notion that he's declined in any significant way is pure fiction.

Not sure if you're saying Toews play hasn't slipped at all in the 1.5 years after the Cup win, but if so, I respectfully disagree. Not offensviely, but defensively. Others feel so as well.

I think if you watched most any game from the Avs Cup season, and compared that to a lot of games in the year and half before Toews called out the new forwards, we'd see a difference.

More defensvie coverage mistakes and turnovers mainly. A few more bad pinches perhaps too. Not a significant amount, but enough to cause the team more problems than before. Whether that's a sign of decline or not remains to be seen.

He rebounded well the last few months, but he's also been making a few more defensive mistakes the last 5-10 games than he had in the few months prior. Perhaps that's just a short term dip in play though.

The significant decline qualifier may not be the case, but I'm not sure that's what people were saying.

Toews has also played 25 more games than Cale the last couple years. So the total may be nearly the same, but they're not really scoring at the same pace.

Even Strength Pts/GM Last 2 Seasons

Makar - 0.61 - 99 pts over 164 games
Toews - 0.51 - 83 pts over 164 games

Total Pts/GM Last 2 Seasons

Makar - 1.14 - 187 pts over 164 games
Toews - 0.60 - 99 pts over 164 games

I guarentee that Leaky-Mitts-Nuke will work. Outstandingly after they work out any teething troubles.

Hopefully so. Most competent 2C's should be able to play well between Val and Lehky. They're kind of dream wingers to have.

Hopefully his playmaking helps both too. If he's consistently good in his board play, and his setups along the wall to the slot area, that will help him click with their style too.

Kick backs to the point for point shots with both in front, but especially Val, too.

You gotta save the bangers for mainboard, NEB

This is one of those trades where both sets of fans want BOTH kids to succeed because they are great kids and very talented. Bo is a little crazy, but thats why we love him. Listening to Mack, Makar, and the other guys talk about BO, you can tell the kid was loved and appreciated. Same with Casey on the sabres
