Poor coaching by Bednar tonight.

First, he goes again with the same lines that didn’t work against the Blues. I’m convinced he’s trying like hell to get Lehkonen going since we haven’t seen a goal from him in nine games (and frankly he doesn’t look great…something’s wrong) but it’s not working. At least he knows, or I HOPE he knows, that putting Lehkonen and Nichushkin is a mistake.

Bad shootout choices but I assume that’s because Nate and Cale were absolutely dead after playing almost the entire OT. Bednar waaaaaaay overplayed those two when he could’ve gone with LOC (and he didn’t until way late) or Girard, or hell even Malinski.

Another blown third period lead. Avs making way too many mistakes late in games and the goaltending is not bailing them out. Very concerning trend heading into the postseason.
Seems the team loses it's focus after something goes bad.... like a goal gets scored on them taking away their comfortable lead.

On Flames goal 1, no Av's 4th liner nearby. Liked like they were all high in the the Avs defensive zone. On Flames goal 2, the same shit show nobody covering their man and being out of focus. Just like the Blues 2nd goal.

Maybe next time use your time out after goals against #1? Give your team a chance to reset?

Bednar is clearly looking for what works out of both lines.

62-29-88 was working incredibly well but the 2nd line wasn't, and people were already ripping on Nelson.

Then a switch was made, and 62-11-88 started looking great together but the top line looked off.

Bednar is likely going to keep tinkering to find two lines that are going at the same time.

Bednar basically said they know where they are in the standings and who they are playing in the playoffs, and they are treating these last 10 games like practice. Didn't like the team's response in either the B-Lose game or tonight. Pretty much challenged his team to give a shit the rest of the way cause he didn't think they did.
Yeah.... it's a great time to put in a new system and tinker with the line up....

(As lame ass an idea as any thing he's ever said/done. IMHO)

They better be a finely tuned, tightly functioning juggernaught/steamroller to play game 1 in Dallas April 20...... And be able to win 4 with this concoction.

I'll admit the bloom is off that rose for me....

Wait till the Playoffs start, and the 1st line turns into 92/29/13

Everyone loves 2022 Kadri but conveniently forgets his first 2 seasons in Denver (36 points and 32 points) and his stupid ass suspension in the 2021 playoffs. Nelson has been with the Avs 3 weeks.
So what? He's the guy you ultimately reached the pinnacle with and has been worth every penny on a shit Flames team. You KNEW he was a fit at 2C.

Brock has been fine. Mediocre. But mediocre doesn't help propel you through the playoffs like the other guy did.

Hey, all you hangmen bozos…

Do something Brock. Impress me!

I listened to Bednar’s entire presser, he seemed pretty irritated, didn’t like their effort tonight, was quite critical of the top guys.

TMV posted that even strength production from Nuke and Necas has been a real problem of late. But I’d also add that Lehkonen has been nonexistent offensively and MacKinnon has hit a bit of a slump, so there’s some growing concerns there. The bad shooting could be a real issue still.

Bednar implied the team got frustrated with the Calgary D stopping zone entries. Avs have been better at dumping the puck but the second goal came off Makar trying to force something in the NZ that wasn’t there. I read somewhere that Weegar is, like, the best defenseman in the league at stopping zone entries. Just gotta try and grind it out. Not gonna beat teams like this with fancy plays.

The not so secret answer to stopping the Avs is reducing and eliminating their speed through the NZ. They have problems with teams that are good at that.

That includes Dallas And the Blues. And the Jets.

Bednar's never come up with a working alternative tactic (plan B) to employ.

Since Bednar was experimenting in the shootout, couldn’t he called up Landy to be the 1st shooter instead of Colton?

I don’t know, the way he was talking I think the coaches HAVE come up with it, the players just don’t want to do it. The team as a whole not only started dumping it in more, they literally went out and got players who know how to play that type of hockey. And it was working! Except on a night like tonight when they reverted to old habits.

If MacKinnon is missing practices because something is bothering him, sit him.

These points mean nothing in the standings and idgaf about personal accomplishment chasing. I'd rather he be a monster en route to a Stanley Cup championship than chase the Art Ross while being potentially hurt heading into the 1st round.

Good luck sitting the guy that leads the league in points with 8 games left. Especially if this guy is Mackinnon.

Nate has just shut it down for the season. He’s saving his energy and production for the playoffs. Actually a lot of players looked like they just don’t care for remaining regular season games. Pretty much the entire top 6 forward group.

Maybe he learned his lesson. That's possible, right?

He's been very good for the flames for the last 3 years. But I guess #2C's grow on trees, so I can see the logic.

Hope you are right. The story from St Louis (and we've heard this countless times before and from elsewhere),is that the team has fully bought into Montgomery's system. Totally committed to it. When that happens, watch out!

So maybe Beds is facing resistance..... I can see some kind of bench conflict going on between MacK and Jared on the bench at times.

This team needs its Captain.
