I can understand why that was one of the most watched games of the year. Two fast and fun teams. Young D rivalry, Goalie battle, no stupid antics, well officiated and the Avs being the cup winners. Even my wife was watching. That was better than a lot of the games in the PO's last year from a competition perspective.

Honestly George punching Tony DeShitweasel makes him one of my favorite goalies of all time.

Rangers fans upset that piece of shit isn't on their team tells you all you need to know about rangers fans.

Yeah Rangers fans are a f***ing embarrassment.

Remember last playoffs a Tampa Bay fan went to a game in New York and after the game got absolutely sucker punched hard, nasty nasty hit(Guy ended up being charged with Assault and banned permanently from MSG).

Anyway, a couple NYR fans on here were defending the guy basically saying "If you wear another team's jersey in MGS you had it coming anyway". Some of the most despicable shit you'll see really. I think it was that Lays guy or something like that, one of the more known idiots on that board anyway.

They are the cesspool of HFBoards. People think Leafs or Habs fans are the worst, but these clowns have probably 3 of the 5 worst posters on here.

This is a statement that never applies to an NHL game.

Big fanbases have more idiots (even if it's proportionally the same as smaller fanbases). Idiots tend to be more vocal and do stupid stuff. It's just mathematics.

Would anyone be able to give me a run down on how players looked for this game? Only caught the highlights and read all the Georgie hype

You are absolutely right but my issue with those type of fans is what they are saying. Wishing physical harm to somebody just because he was not a good teammate and being selfish career-wise is going overboard for me. That is the difference between the George/Dutchie situations. I don't think any Avs fans wished physical harm to Dutchie. Not that I remember anyway. I might be wrong. And I am not talking about the usual empty threats/figures of speech that we have all made sometimes like "I would kill you if you did that to me" or things like that.

"Adding wood to the fire on the first floor" if a player is on the 2nd floor for being a bad teammate or the Blues fans vs Kadri during the playoffs...those seem too real to me especially the Kadri one when fans actually made phone threats. That could be just me though....

Vichyssoise > potato soup
Bisque de homard > clam chowder
Gazpacho > minestrone
Food (not a soup) > soup

Lots of soups were ignored.

Unless you're in New England, corn chowder is typically better than clam chowder.

Chicken enchilada soup is better than tortilla soup.

Why is gumbo and asparagus soup not being considered?

And then you have other distillations like stuffed pepper soup and stuffed baked potato soup, which are also worthy of consideration.

Look man, it was a rush job emergency game day thread. I did the best I could. 😭

Happily I don't spend much time with baseball anymore.

But in 40 or so years of serious hockey viewing I have never felt that NHL refs were competent.

They finally got rid of their version of Angel Hernandez (the single worst official in any sport, anywhere, who's a total jackass to boot) in Tim Peel, though it was under some silly circumstances, but regardless, that move raised the bar a fair bit IMO.

But really, I don't have a gigantic beef with NHL officiating. I've even come to accept the whole "make-up call" nonsense because if you don't do that, oh boy the conspiracy theorists who think their team is being targeted by the refs (literally every fanbase for all 32 teams has these people) would have a field day. I personally like Wes McCauley, and not just because he tends to have a little fun at the mic. When I watch Avs games or other NHL games I'll see a few ticky-tack calls now and again but nothing I'd call egregiously bad.

Right now I think the ref fans and players alike don't seem to care for is St. Laurent.

Where I have a beef with the officiating is above the guys in stripes. So long as a glorified meathead in Colin Campbell continues to hold sway over Bettman and the rest of the higher-ups, DOPS will continue to be a complete and total joke. The SYSTEM is bad IMO, but that's not on the refs.

Lehky / Mac / Mikko - Neither Mikko nor Mac inpressed. Lehky had some decent moments

Nuke / Newhook / ERod - Nuke typically good. Newhook looking better but not 'there' yet. ERod looking much better, though that translates to low average.

Compher / LOC / Cogliano - Cogs and LOC got the hustle Shorty. Both hustled, but they both belong on the 4th line.

Kaut / Maltsev / Hunt - Maltsev proved he belongs in the NHL, even if it is only a 4C. Kaut and Hunt were perfectly good 4th liners, though I think all would agree that LOC / Helm / Cogs is an extraordinary 4th line.

Makar - virtually invisible, and not in a good way
Toews - better showing than last game
Manson - He was Manson. Some brain farts; some untimely penalties, but good physical presence
Byram - generally good game. No massive mistakes.
Girard - As compared to skill level, the best Av last night hands down.
EJ - should have retired with the cup, but who is going to turn down $6M? He was slow, sliding around the ide on his butt too much. Seemingly always in the wrong place.

Georgie - Terrific glove. Excellent east / west movement. Perhaps a little shaky on rebound control. But is all areas, he was better than Kuemper, Gruby and even Varly. This is a game where Georgie ( and Shesterkin for that matter - bailed out the team and stole a game.

So, all in all, it was a fun game. Both teams had good chances to put the game away, only to be smacked by a goalie. PK was better. PP was not better. Forward, in general, are not getting back to play defense.

Went with broccoli cheese here.

Can't go wrong with a nice tomato bisque and grilled cheese either, especially when it's cold outside.
