So I am guessing the cores are:

Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Landeskog, Girard

vs

Aho, Svechnikov, Teuvo, Hamilton, Slavin?

Pretty damn close to me. Neither has a goalie in their cores. I think I prefer Carolina's core, but I think Colorado has better support/upcoming pieces (Staal, Pesce, Fluery, Trocheck, etc vs Kadri, Byram, Newhook, Johnson).

Very, very close for me, though. I have a feeling this is so lopsided due to Mackinnon+Makar but I think it should be a lot closer.

I pity voted Carolina because they have no chance in the poll even though the talent level difference isn't as dramatic as the poll will make it seem

Carolina’s got a nice core going forward but Mackinnon is the best of the bunch and I don’t see a Carolina player that comes even close to his level of play

I think the make up for the gap with some of the other pieces. Mackinnon is definitely the #1, though, with Aho and Svech behind.

As much as I love Aho, Carolina has no answer to MacKinnon. Or Makar, for that matter.

Disagree with that...Svechnikov, Aho, Slavin, Hamilton are all right there, in my opinion.

Seems COL relies too much on Mackinnon for scoring to call him by himself a 'core' - he's got over a hundred more shots than Aho and a few more minutes of TOI/G so his higher point totals aren't a surprise. You have to go to #68 in points to find the next COL player, but CAR has Teuvo and Svech in the Top 35 as well. Add in a still young Dougie Hamilton, Martin Necas, Hayden Fleury, Jaccob Slavin, Brett Pesce, and you have a really solid core.

LOL. It literally took Mac like what 4-5 years to break out? Some ppl called him bust over here in the first couple of years. I am betting right now that peak Svechnikov will be better than peak Mackinnon.

These are the number 1 and number 2 teams I got moving forward in the league. If any team were to have a similar run to the hawks, pens, kings in terms of cups and Deep runs its these two teams. I like avalanche a little bit better in terms of core and roster makeup but canes are a close 2nd.

It’s possible but I wouldn’t bet my house on it.

thats exactly how taxes work though..
If you make 1 more dollar, and move up a tax bracket, you don't end up being taxed more than the $1 increase. The $1 is taxed more than the 99. I doubt there is a country where moving up a tax bracket leaves the citizen with a net lower than if they hadn't made that $1.

I see Pesce as also being part of the Carolina core. And if you're looking at going forward, add Necas, as well. Canes core is gonna be deep.

Canes core as I see it:

Svechnikov - Aho - Teravainen
x - Staal - Necas

Slavin - Hamilton
x - Pesce

Important but not core pieces - Trochek, McGinn, Foegele, Williams, Skjei, Fleury

Hayden Fleury? If you're adding him, we're adding Bowen Byram lol.

I think its close; but Mack tops it over the top.

Its not a massive difference as the poll would indicate but I think Colorado has the best 2 players in this poll (least in the long run, currently you could make an argument of Slavin over Makar).
