A realization that I had a few years ago regarding these lopsided encounters is that Sweden isn’t really even playing Austria today. They are actually playing the US. In other words, they aren’t concerned about scoring more goals than Austria, they are looking at scoring more than the US did against Austria.
They have a long way to go.

Absolute laser from Gunler. Sundsvik's screen is terrific as well. Stays in the goaltender's eyes until the last second and then turns enough to let the shot through. No assist but it should be.

Definitely. First thought it was a questionable goal to give up for Wraneschitz standart. But on the replay, you can see that he only saw it at the last moment which is why he didn't make the save. Great screen.

This is gonna go exactly like the last game for Austria if they continue to fail to establish possession. Always chasing the puck and relying on your goalie isn't a good solution. Works for one period, maybe 30mins but after that, it's gonna get ugly. Have to make plays yourself if you wanna be competitive.

I think the skill difference might just be too much here. It's tough to play the "Deny possession and look for lucky bounces" type game when all 6 of the Swedish dmen can outskate and handle basically your entire forward corps. Swedes are being pretty smart not to take dumb shots from the center of the blueline like the russians were yesterday too.

Also, What an amazing interview by Rossi. Better analysis than you get from most coaching postgames for sure

I can count 2 times he got robbed tonight and he set up Raymond for a chance that he whiffed on. What are you talking about?

He's been something of caricature of himself so far firing at every opportunity. I think he needs a goal to settle himself down a bit so that he picks his spots better.

I agree on the interview. If Rossi has any influence with the coaches he needs to use it now... he just said they need to play simple...should be obvious to anyone coaching at this level.

Brännstam has had a brilliant game, just like against the czechs. Surprisingly good.

Rossi just needs one opening. Austrians aren't completely dead yet. Just mostly dead.

Pretty unfair to interview Rossi IMO, though I thought he handled it very well. "What was it like losing 11-0 and now getting outshot 22-1?" Like GTFO with that.

Give the kid a break. Aside from him and their goaltender they are completely outclassed.

Rossi is a guy who really understands the game, knows what's going on around. That's maybe his biggest advantage as a player. He is really analytical with his thinking about the character of the ongoing game.

It's no disrespect Rossi is still a top prospect in the world today.
