I guess technically you could say that, but Sweden is never looking to run up the score.A realization that I had a few years ago regarding these lopsided encounters is that Sweden isn’t really even playing Austria today. They are actually playing the US. In other words, they aren’t concerned about scoring more goals than Austria, they are looking at scoring more than the US did against Austria.
Its called LAGOM.
Not too much and Not too little.
So, the score will be LAGOM. Apart from that they wouldn't feel comfy with high score.

Topping another teams score can be a magnificent motivator. I once played in a tournament where there were 3 teams per group with only the winner advancing. My team drew our first game 3-3, and that team we drew against beat the 3rd team 12-3. So we needed to top 12-3 to advance. Needless to say we came out hungry and were 5-0 up inside 5 minutes on way to winning 19-1A realization that I had a few years ago regarding these lopsided encounters is that Sweden isn’t really even playing Austria today. That was my guess and that is a huge loss for Austria..Prepare for an incoming 60 shots.Wimmer suspended 2 games
Tell that to Japan!I guess technically you could say that, but Sweden is never looking to run up the score.
This is a weird take...What the hell does this game have to do with the USA?A realization that I had a few years ago regarding these lopsided encounters is that Sweden isn’t really even playing Austria today. It’s not weird at all if you actually put some thought into it.This is a weird take...What the hell does this game have to do with the USA?
I'm fairly certain the team which wants to beat the USA are focused on winning against the USA rather than running up the score against Austria for that tiny chance it's gonna mean anything. It’s not weird at all if you actually put some thought into it.
It’s not about the standings. I guess the mistake you made was thinking I was talking about the standings. I wasn’t.I'm fairly certain the team which wants to beat the USA are focused on winning against the USA rather than running up the score against Austria for that tiny chance it's gonna mean anything.
Actually, as long as Swedes get 3 points this game isn't going to have an impact to USA vs. Sweden placement in the standing at all.

As a guy that’s played in a ton of leagues with issues of large talent disparities, I can tell you that the psychology of the Sweden players is about besting the competition. In this case Austria may be taking a back seat in Sweden’s headspace to the team they actually care about beating.
Beer-league anecdotes apply everywhere.I'm pretty sure beer-league anecdotes doesn't apply here.
Convinced at least Raymond and Holtz sure would like to score a couple of goals each though.![]()
