I know there a thread going on for matthews but I want to see a poll

Should we Trade or Keep Matthews?

Scenarios:
- We keep matthews then:
A) he either walks as UFA
B) he wants anywhere from 14 to 15 AAV for 8 years

Given his drive the last few years especially in the playoffs I am not comfortable giving him that kind of AAV I don't give a F how many "regular season" goals he scores

OR

- We trade Matthews and get some picks/prospects and retool/rebuild again
Question then becomes how much can we get for Matthews given he only has 1 more year before he hits UFA market, what is the other team going to pay for something like that and risk matthews walking as a UFA?

So leafs nation what do you think?

I don’t mind trading him

If it’s a retool we should get a nylander level player ++

If it’s a rebuild we should get top end picks and prospects

I won’t be convinced to move in until he plays abs produces below his standards and abilities when the hockey matters for 14 straight post seasons.

I’m only halfway in losing my faith in him.

Get a great shutdown 2C a promising C who can play 3C and 5.5M in capspace

Use that to get an offensive player to the top 6

We'll win a series with this team and can become better uf Byfield hits off

We won't even make the playoffs with that trade

Matty is a tricky one, his will to win is questionable but remembering Ovies down years around this time and how important a C with his talents are. Bad year for him forsure. I'd stick with him if the behind the scenes interaction is positive. Also the medical situation.

Let's focus on tossing mgmt first and then look at the players.

He has a NMC that kicks in July 1st which makes this entire thing very complicated.

I think you have to go to him very soon and offer him a contract.

If he says no, which he most likely will, then you have to move him because losing a player of his abilities for nothing is absolutely devastating for any franchise.

If he reachs free agency, I doubt he resign's with us.

Even with just 1 year left on his contract you would still get a massive haul from say a team like the Kings.

Trade him at the draft

He's never been fully healthy heading into the playoffs and has this mult-year history of not showing up in big moments.

Why are we tying $14 million in a guy like that? You don't sign a contract like that having to insult him with "proper" players to support him
