Especially after all the stories Thornton will be telling him about living and playing in San Jose?

The beach, the celebs, media doesn’t care to the same degree, etc.

If you are an NHL player in NY and LA you are like a D list celeb.

Being tight with bieber gets you on the a list. Just does. He is literally hanging out with Kendall Jenner because he is a leaf and bieber loves the leafs.

the security in his own building didn’t know who he was in Arizona

If celebrity is what you are after, playing in relative anonymity on any of the California teams doesn’t do much to raise your profile. For all his success it’s not like Anze Kopitar is a household name anymore than a TFC player might be in Toronto.

The ONLY reason he is at these events is because of my guy JB. Justin happens to like hockey and the Leafs (the only superstar I know of that likes hockey). Matthews plays hockey and is in Toronto. Boom.

If celebrity is what you are after, playing in relative anonymity on any of the California teams doesn’t do much to raise your profile. For all his success it’s not like Anze Kopitar is a household name anymore than a TFC player might be in Toronto.

I would hope it is changing with more localized TV coverage for hockey out west .. but it certainly used to be like that .. even in late 90's Mike Ricci who was a decent player for years in league could walk into sharktank before games and no one even knew who he was .. but that was beauty of it you could live out west, be from TO and you could live a completely normal life day to day as a pro .. certainly when you dropped down to A and I there were lots of fans looking to go to games for da fights .. you could literally go into packed bar beside rink after game you just played and order a drink and no one knew who you were .. in fact 1 time in Indi after a game at bar this girl comes up to me and asks me if I was on da Pacers .. F8ck we had a good LOL with her .. .. now that would never ever happen in places like Sudbury and NB you would have bunnies who knew everything about you .. I would hope it is better today in mid/west US with more local TV coverage

Snoop is a big hockey fan, Carrie Underwood for obvious reasons, Mike Meyers huge fan.

Curious as to what you think it says? I’m sure Robertson has friends and goes out at times.

I’m not saying they should only be training and not having fun, but when you get embarrassed again in the playoffs, the fanbase starts to become angry and frustrated as they see no means to an end. To give hope to the fans and I think sometimes he should post himself working out as we all know they do. It would maybe give the fanbase a bit of hope as it would show that they are grinding and putting in the work. We all know they are, but being able to see it is much better than just thinking they do

Being a D list Celeb in the States > Being an A/B list Celeb in Canada. Matthews Lifestyle would be more lavish in multiple areas in the States vs his lifestyle in TO. Just depends on where he is.

And there is a huge difference between the two: Robertson hasn't made it as a full-time NHL player yet. He can't afford to take a month or two off like established vets.

I don’t want to see him in the gym 24/7, I want to have him give us fans hope. Last year, it was him slimming down and becoming faster. It Bred optimism of him improving, I just want tangible evidence, even if it’s obvious that he is already working, but just, I want to see our superstar working hard. Is it so hard to post a pic of him in the gym from the time he spends in the gym.

Hah, I'm not saying I have any strong opinion on what level of celebrity the average NHLer should get but I think being a Leaf definitely opens up doors that being in other markets don't.

I don't get the sense there's anything particularly wrong with Matthews' level of fitness. If anything it would be nice to hear Mitch Marner is spending the summer with Gary Roberts.

I think this is more Leafs PR than the players.
Honestly, posting a pic of a player working out is just for show. Kind of like asking someone How are you? Nobody expects the other person something other than Fine or Thanks….

Even if he did people would complain. I saw people ragging on him for being out on Saturday night. As if athletes don’t train 6-7 days a week and have some downtime. Unbelievable
