I fear ( Habs fan) Matthew's will break out every time he is on the ice.
Wouldn't be surprised if he pots a couple Monday.

People always think the next coach will be better than the current coach. I've never understood that thinking.

Babcock has been a success at every level. Not sure why we gave up on him. Maybe we deserve the team we have.

Matthews is walking anyway for nothing as a UFA in a few years (great negotiating, Kyle). For sure Buffalo would swap Eichel and a first right now. Do it.
Honestly, that's tempting I can't lie... Eichel is a better playmaker and signed an extra 2 years at a lower cap hit. That would be a hard trade to make but Matthews play when he's not scoring is really concerning for me.

Not a chance, Matthews is the better player. Marner for Eichel different story if they lose tomorrow.
honestly I don't think I would make that trade but Matthews is really frustrating right now and the fact this guy can't show up when it counts is driving people nuts lol. Hoping for a big game 7.

I keep seeing you post this ignorance. I also posted the following in the Marner thread but clearly it needs to be addressed here as well.

There is a reason Marner is usually the high man in the zone. He is F3 on the line. The Leafs don't want him down low battling for pucks. They want him moving around in a position to receive passes/collect loose pucks or to get in lanes for breakout attempts and also be the first man back for a rush going the other way. The only time they want him down low is if he has the puck on his stick or he is making a forechecking read with speed. Marner standing still battling behind the opposing net is not what they want.

I know this is probably hard for to believe but this is the game plan.

You are complaining about him doing exactly what he is supposed to do.

Here is an article for you about F3:

What Is an F3 Forward in Hockey?

The line is playing well out there. The results will come.
Keep on believing man .. i got land in da swamp in florida for ya .. great deal man .. playoff hockey is desperate hockey .. won by guys who are most desperate .. Mitch and Matty are really nice kids .. polite most of time .. all they wanna do is go home and play video and get laid man .. they got their $$$$ for nothing and their chicks for free .. it is working for them

Babcock is a horrible coach.

So a fella playing the most PK minutes on the team which has not given up a goal while PKing is playing "scared chicken sh*t"... I rest my case. But the "we here in TO don't like p*ssies" was a great line, floored me with it, you did, I'm still gasping at that gut punch of a line. I could go on about that line forever, it was that good. Wow, what a line.
Playoff hockey is won by desperate guys .. not guys who have been paid off already who got their $$$ for nothing and their chicks for free + video games .. anyone can play Habs on PK today it is right there with Leafs as BY fAR worst in league .. there is zero accomplishment stopping da worst PP in league

Babs became a punching bag because we wanted razzel and dazzle and he wanted structure and disciple and wanted the game to the be played the “right” way. Once Dubs got in that was end of that.

I agree he was on to something.

I am man enough to admit that I was wrong about Babs in a lot of ways. He preached playing the right way (being good on D) because he knew that it is very hard to score in the playoffs and you have to be able to keep the game tight if you aren't able to freewheel your team to a lot of goals. The big problem is that we also have $40M tied up in 4 players and if they aren't producing...we can't afford the good depth players to score enough for us to win. We have Galy and Engval along with Mikeyhev who aren't really helping out too much in that regard.

I still think Babs was an egomaniac that was unduly tough on certain players for no reason (Justin Holl) and stubborn on line up changes. I think if you could have Babs hockey IQ without all of the rest of the crap you would have...Rod Brindamour...

I think the best thing for us to do is call it a day. When I get back to TO, hopefully in the fall, we sit down, hash it out over a beer and toast to friendship. Cheers.
(And the Leafs are going to win game 7, and Matthews or Marner will score the winning goal ;):thumbu: )

Seriously!? Wow
Randy Carlyle had success too, maybe we should have kept him around
Fine... but no complaints when the young players are undisciplined and don't perform in the playoffs.

At the end of the day, Marner/Matthews have too much power and whine way to much. You pay me $10,000,000 a year and you can yell at me 24/7/365.

Babcock was old school and Dubas is new school. They clearly didn't see eye to eye.

The core players wanted "new school" ice time because padding stats and getting more money was more important to them then playing a team system that focuses on winning. They never bought into Babs system... and they had a gm that was building a team of players that wouldn't work well in Babs system.

This is a big game for Matthews but I have a feeling he'll be up for the challenge.
