Until Matthews can match McDavid’s point totals, or even come close, im taking McDavid. And I looooooove AM34. We are so lucky to have him.

He’s already ahead of him.

Matthews has 11 even strength goals, McDavid has 3.

Matthews leads the league in even strength points as well in less games. Only reason mcdavid has more points is cuz he plays more PP.

Let’s not even get into how much better Matthews is defensively.

Top 1 players in the league.

I would say that Matthews has already proven himself to be the better goal scorer compared to McDavid.
Lol matthews already has 3 more goals than McDavid in 71 less career games. He’s hands down the better goal scorer. Better overall player? I’d still say it’s McDavid, Matthews is certainly closing that gap with his play so far this yr.

He wins every poll going into every year for "The Most Overrated Player in the League".

Meh, I don't think it makes anything better it just illustrates that hfboards is an atrociously moderated site completely flooded with sad bitter trolls. I would prefer the main boards weren't a cesspool and it was possible to talk hockey there but yes those people get humiliated by their Matthews takes constantly and deserve his success shoved down their throats everytime they open their mouths, not like they'd ever own it though.

Best goal scorer in the league. The torch has been passed.

Top three player in the league.

I knew eventually that he would play with Marner, even though others disagreed a long time ago, it's just too perfect of a dynamic duo.

Yeah... there's a clear top 3 in the league at this point.

McDavid. MacKinnon. Matthews.

I'd still have him at #3 but there isn't much of an argument to have him any lower than that

For sure. Top 3 in the league are

McDavid
MacKinnon
Matthews

There is no doubt about it. Draisaitl is not on his level.
you can only be Too Three if your last name begins with the letter M! :D:nod:

Last night was the 17th goal in Matthews career he's scored vs Ottawa in just 19 games played against them.

The next four teams he's scored the most goals against is Detroit with 12 goals in 14 games, Montreal with 12 goals in 17 games, Buffalo with 11 goals in 15 games, and Vancouver with 10 goals in 11 games.

Poor Ottawa, too bad for them AM34 is in their division!

Matthews really padded the stats tonight. The 'critique' about his Hart worthiness seemed to be centered on his 'Cy Young' looking stats line but a line of 17 GP 16 G 9 A and 25 PTS looks pretty ridiculous and vaults him into the top 3 or 4 in league scoring. That's a 121 point pace over 82 games along with a tidy 77 goals...

I don't know why you guys care about McDavid at all. Were watching a generational goal scorer who's playing Selke defense and playing at a what 100 point pace? This might be a once in a lifetime player on our team. I don't care to compare him to McDavid or talk about if I would trade him for McDavid if given the option, the latter is pretty much disrespectful at this point. Why invent hypothetical opportunities to trade away a likely franchise great?

This is very true. At any point in our lives before Matthews showed up we never would've imagined having a player like this on our team would be possible. It really is a blessing.

We certainly dreamt of this when we lost the McDavid lottery in 2015. Every fanbase that wins the 1st overall pick thinks they won the lottery, but who knew Matthews could actually just keep raising the bar like this?

That's why I would shake my head at some of the takes about trading out young talent. Matthews and Marner are 23 years-old only..
I believe it was The Cynick guy who suggested trading Matthews might be the best move for the franchise.

Where is that guy nowadays anyway?

That guy has litterally suggested every good player (Rielly, Marner, Matthews, Nylander) be traded and Leafs "Blow it up" and start over. He's not going to be posting for a long time i'm sure. A few other negative nancies are MIA

Mackinnon hasn't really kept up this year. The Avs have been hit pretty hard with injuries and their Covid pause.
