100% he's gone to the States, probably L.A. or Phoenix, in 2 years. Too bad! He's the real deal.

I don't get where this notion comes from.

Matthews literally asked the team for an 8 year contract. It was Dubas who gave him a 5 year contract.

On the flip side, McDavid asked for a 5 year contract, and the team had to overpay to get him to sign an 8. Then he felt bad, and decreased it to 12.5. Original contract was 13.5 X 8.

Posts like this should be regarded as trolling by the moderation team here
It's been actively encouraged on here for quite awhile now.....

He wanted to sign for 8 years, but I'm sure the tr**ls know better.

Any reason why?
I don't believe it will happen but you have to acknowledge that it's certainly possible.

If the person posting it was saying it could happen that’s one thing, though I don’t think it’s valuable to the discussion in most contexts. However people who constantly bring up the supposed inevitability of him leaving are trolling, plain and simple

The person posting that has a history of having little use for anyone under 90 years of age.

I still have flashbacks of that post-season interview with Babcock, outdoors somewhere, when he was asked if the team had decided who they were going to select first overall. He said it was between Matthews and Laine - I think the first time anyone in the organization even acknowledged there was possibly a decision still to be made.

I shuddered thinking there's no way a team desperately in need of a center is going to take a sniping LW. No way. But his comments made me wonder. Of course, I had no idea then Matthews was going to be this good. I assumed more like a Kopitar-type player with a few more goals. And Laine seems to have finally turned things around so good for him.

But I still shudder to think there was ever even an internal debate and have to believe Babcock was just trolling the media ... even though he wasn't giving that cheeky smirk he usually gives when he's up to something.

I think of it this way: Everyone wants to be king of their hometown. It's human nature. But if you're AM, consider this - if you go back to Phoenix and by some miracle of unparalleled happenstance, you win a cup, what are you there? You're still "that hockey guy, Oh yay, Good for you. Hey, honey, look...the Cardinals just kicked a field goal. WAHOOO!!" But you win in TO, you OWN this town...forever. And what place would you rather own if you're still in your 20s? One of the top cities in NA, with 3 and half million people, a thriving nightlife, great restaurants, and an adoring public who will worship you in perpetuity...or a city who's only real claim to fame is a couple of party school universities and temperatures that regularly peak at 110 in the middle of the winter (yes I'm exaggerating about that, but still...)?

He's not going anywhere...or at least, not there.

how would you assess vegas and LA? if he wants to go back to the Southwest (I'm not convinced he does), those seem like more attractive destinations than the Coyotes.
