Come on Auston….a few more helpers. A 60/50 season would be sweet.

Get Marner up to 35 and Bunting up to 25 goals

Please and thanks hahaha

Matty is slowly becoming da world #1 .. he has all da tools .. size, speed, skill, shot and he is developing a HUNGER now almost every game .. you can see it in his forecheck when he is bang on .. but he needs to be able to beat a Bergeron 1 on 1 in playoffs 1st .. this is his next step

M&M beating Point/Kucherov/Stamkos will do.

Guessing that has more to do with his center and other linemate as historically I dont remember Gaudreau being a great defensive player.

Edit: the system too i guess

Yeah it's always tough to sort it out - one of the things about Dom's model is that it incorporates goals as well as expected goals, so it's hard not for Gaudreau to get defensive credit when his line might be the most impressive goal-prevention line in hockey this year given its usage and deployment.

Did I read that correctly and it says Johhny hockey is a better defensive player than Matthews?

His model mixes both expected and actual goals against so every remotely dangerous chance going in the net when Matthews has been on the ice still hurts him there. Meanwhile Gaudreau has Markstrom back there.

(Five-on-five goals-against rates are actually included in GSVA and Matthews’ defensive rating remains strong despite that).

The Evolving Wild model only uses expected goals against and has him as a top 5 Selke candidate, but throwing in the actual goals is gong to drop him significantly lol. So it's still pretty impressive how well he grades out defensively despite being insanely unlucky.

is that all ? 😂

Seemed last night that Matthews was wearing a no rips given emotion on his face. Looked righteously offended when scoring like the ego of settling for less was being smacked aside.

I noticed this too, after his 3rd goal he eyed down the Tampa centre like he was going to take this face off from him too. All business, took souls out there.

Might want to put an * next to the playoff goals. Mario had 12 in 11 games at that point and had won a series. Matthews had 13 in 32 playoff games. Matthews is the best goal scorer in the game right now- maybe lets enjoy that and stop with comparing him to past greats out of context

I guess it's time for me to change my profile picture and name that I use here. I'll wait till the end of the season and hope to change my name to "Matthews70" as opposed to "Matthews60" with my picture being of Matthews, Marner and JT. Good-bye Hyman, you got paid and we got Bunting, win-win for all of us (until it's Buntings pay day).

Funny how the only context that matters is the one that makes Matthews look worse.

That is the point though, these needless comparisons without context are making him look worse. I don't see the need for comparisons that make him look worse, sit back and enjoy the ride.

How does scoring more even strength goals than Mario frakkin Lemieux make him look worse?

Stop being too scared too enjoy the ride.
