Tribute Auston Matthews Discussion Thread II: Record Breaking Edition

Matthews is definitely on the same tier as McDavid this season. The difference in their PPG is 6-7 points over a full season, and Auston is bigger and stronger defensively.

He then tosses Matthews a jersey with the “C” and continues - but the only way we win this thing is with you leading the team.

he should also take off the jersey with the A to reveal a jersey with no letter and then hand the A to willy.

McDavid is great and all but yeah, I'm totally happy with having Matthews instead. Something about a goal scorer this elite just gets my jollies going like nothing else.

I remember when I read that scouting report comparing Matthews with Eichel saying "with all due respect to Jack, he couldn't carry Matthews' skates to the rink" that we had something extraordinary on our hands.

So we ended up getting one of the best playmakers in the league. Then the following year we get our generational goal scoring machine in Matthews.

It goes to show that even if something may seem devastating at first, like missing the lottery for McDavid, life could turn out being even better than you expected. Makes me think all these devastating playoff first round exits may be leading to something....

The most ridiculous stat is that Matthews has scored a goal in 40 of his last 46 games. That is basically something no one will do again for a while outside of maybe Matthews again.

It's no surprise that it feels like he scores every game because he pretty much does.

When it was 5-3 Toronto the chance he'd get the record was the only reason I kept watching. It was inevitable Florida was going to at least tie it up.

He had a lot of good looks tonight, just like every game it seems.
Now onto Dallas where he's a pretty solid bet to score one.
