I'm Canadian bruh, just pointing out what I see
You saw a goalie make some nice saves, his most impressive save was against Brady anyways not Matthews. Matthews had two partially screened shots and one that almost bounced in. The point was he was buzzing all night and almost single handedly beat an all star Canadian team.

That's pretty impressive. He was darting for the net, not playing on the perimeter. If he does that in the playoffs, look out.

Hell of a game for Matthews in the Four Nations Cup especially after Matty Tkachuk didn't play.

If he plays this way in the playoffs this year, he is going to break through in a big way. Sometimes a goalie is just on, these guys are all the best players in the world and in a long playoff, if he can replicate that every night, he's going to light up the lamp plenty.

Maybe he needs to play with a shooter?

I think it is quite concerning that the supposed best goal scorer on the planet ended up with a goose egg again, but to be fair he was absolutely robbed by Binnington in OT tonight.

And I was glad because this tourney really became much more important than I thought it would and I really wanted Canada to win.

He isn’t Bergeron, that’s for sure. Aside from that one crucial lapse, he did look like the best Center out there tonight. We all know what he is anyway. Elite center, scores goals, gets points, not generational. I’d much rather have him rather than Eichel and Eichel was supposed to be much better.

If he had scored in overtime he might have been won the tournament mvp. I think he was pretty decent.

He also missed a game with yet another mysterious injury.

Mcdavid goal: Matthews cheats and leaves his man (Connor Mcdavid) for a wide open shot to win the game.

Will be thrown under the rug as always and dismissed.

He was fantastic

He played and looked like a guy that could lead a team to something special

I just hope he stays fit, has a strong finish to the season and he and Marner can be the difference makers they proved they can be tonight

It was a breakdown and a bad decision from Matthews. Matthews should have stay with the McDavid thread in the slot but man Marner was wide open and no one was covering him.

Nice to see he lead the charge with a pair of primary assists for the US

Both were fake assists (goalie rebound assists) but Matthews did have a great game tonight.

Doesn't mean he wasn't 100% responsible as the Center for the man in the slot.

He was responsible but as I said there was blown coverage so Marner was left wide open around the corner/half wall. That breakdown cause the goal, whoever was supposed to have Marner shares the blame with Matthews

Can someone link the goal here cause I don't agree with that summary.

I can't find a link right now but just watching the replay on TV.

After the shot not he draw, Hanifin doesn't pick his man in front of the net and lets him get behind. So Fox decides to chase Hanifin's man and give him a crosscheck. Looks like he was worried about a shot to the net. But in doing so that left Marner wide open around the corner. So when the puck was cycled Fox was out of position to make a play and Matthews' made a poor call on leaving McDavid in the slot.

If Fox stayed in position he could have cut off the cycle around the net, or played Marner tightly. But he made a bad read that there would be a shot in front and chased Hanifin's man out front.

I've heard the defense for it and it sounds eerily similar to CNN trying to defend Joe Biden after the Biden/Trump debate.

Centers almost NEVER go deep in the corner. There has to be a crazy circumstance for that to happen.

Matthews does this stuff all the time where it probably won't show on a Moneypuck chart but completely f***s his team in the defensive zone.
