Yeah, that's a bad, bad look. Millions of dollars to play in a proverbial sandbox. Makes the fan's heart sink a little, doesn't it?

Didn't like this thing from the beginning, and held out hope our club would look out for its best interests; Terrible timing all the way around.

Hockey Night in Canada, after the tribute to Bob Cole, to go down 3-1 against the Bruins. Lifeless, gutless performance where the captain QUIT and left the team midway through. The series was lost in this game, and Matthews didn't want to be seen anywhere near the crime scene. Did we get even an explanation as to why? Of course not. :booboo:

For some reason, some folks need more proof of this guy's character but the proof has been in the pudding for years.

Yeah, gotta say that whole sequence was a tough pill to swallow for Leafs fans. Go down to the Bruins at home, staring down a 3-1 deficit in the series, Willie, Auston and Mitch all yelling at each other on the bench… and Auston doesn’t come out for the third. Or Game 5. Or Game 6…

No explanation on what happened, gets the captaincy, contract kicks in and proceeds to have the most miserable, injury filled, inconsistent year of his career, spending months to get right for 4 Nations, only to be load manager for 4 Nations.

A lot needs to be unpacked right now.

What need unpacking? It's MLSE and has always been. Since Stavro left this is what we get. It's a basketcase zombie organization that mindlessly makes money. You can manage this team by filling the roster with scrubs and people will show..

Remember... Wendel Clarkson lol
How about... Jeff "middle" Finger

I think the most surprising thing for me is Matthews actually admitting this is a different injury.

I don't see what he has to gain from saying that.

Could have just gone along saying he's been dealing with something this season.

I don’t think he could cover things up away from the Toronto Maple Leafs while off playing friendlies and then have a Steve Simmons go expose on it, or have the Leafs learn that he suddenly needs treatment on something new. There’s privacy and there’s misleading statements. Better to come out with it casually and brush it off as a thing that happens.

This guy is just going to be chronically injured his entire career. I would not want to be the ones giving him 8 years when he's 30...especially if we still haven't accomplished shit by then.

Honestly with a bad back he may have screwed himself not taking 8 years. That was a really silly thing to do.

He can talk all he wants about how he would never miss this game and that it’s nice to have home town support in Boston but let’s see if he shows up and is a difference maker.
He's always talked the talk and never walked the walk. I do not expect anything different tonight. Eichel has looked better for the USA.

Doesn't matter, people will act like he's Mark Messier no matter what happens.

"The highest paid player in the world back checked once!! Isn't he amazing?"

It’s certainly going to be something to be cheering on Brad Marchand on the road while Canada takes on Auston Matthews and his hometown Boston crowd.

The most surprising thing for me is that his style of play isn't one that would see him as a candidate to being chronically injured.
