In our entire recent playoffs history neither of them have put this team on their back. If McDavid is contemplating testing free agency we need to do everything in our power to sign him. I get that it’s a captain obvious level question but we cannot be capped out if there is a possibility that McDavid is ready and willing to come. So again does our genius level brass throw money at Marner potentially knowing they could put us in a situation where we don’t have the ability to trade him and we don’t have the ability to sign potentially the biggest UFA ever.

The shills on TV and Radio have been talking up Marner all year and it’s pathetic. I would offer him Nylander money take it or leave it with no trade protection or limited 15 teams. I’d prefer they just walk away and sign other players but that would be my highest spend on Marner if they are just gonna run it back and that I’d give him one or two years before flipping him. That being said if he walks for nothing this summer this is inexcusable from a management standpoint.

I don’t think we are on a cup trajectory and I seriously challenge the ability of our lead players to lead. I don’t think there’s a time pressure here as we are all thinking.

I’m not sure injuries are the sole reason for his big step back year. Just doesn’t seem to have his head in the game for more than 2-3 games at a time.

If he had a bad back and damaged goods type situation going on I don’t think the career play would have been to sign a short term deal. Remember, he signed that after a down year.

Because it is almost impossible to find a more skilled player who can shoot and score .. diamond in da rough as they say .. and Leafs will always have problem of making more cash than any other hockey team .. sure some of it doesn't count in HRR but bottom lien every hockey player knows our Leafs are a cash cow .. so while other teams have cash limits which sometimes even are lower than AAV we aren't .. it makes for brutal negotiations
