Never fails to disappoint. Why is this guy captain exactly.
I fully believe the guy needs surgery but that surgery would fully end his season. The 4 nations literally shouldn't even be a thought. No chance.
Likely a herniated discYou have to wonder what the actual injury is. Because the most dramatic collision he had was falling upper back first into the boards in the Detroit game then that McAvoy take down in the playoffs.
So really, what is the injury if it goes back as far as September, but maybe also April with a full offseason in between? If that’s the case the summer may have been wasted on getting right for this season.
The whole thing is all the more frustrating because the facts have been withheld.
I don't quite understand this whole thing. Why are people so angry that he is hurt? Athletes are injured every year in every sport.Tough injury to manage = pillow soft

I agree.I don't quite understand this whole thing. Why are people so angry that he is hurt? Athletes are injured every year in every sport.
It sucks for the Leafs that he is out but I don't get the outrage towards him
Likely a herniated disc
Yeah that could be the case, but they've also said it's "not structural" whatever that means so I'm hoping it doesn't involve the spinal column. Sounds like herniated disc surgery would take 4-12 weeks. So that would actually put him into a Kucherov LTIR situation if he had surgery soon.
They often just say upper or lower body and a timeline if they know it. If a player injures their knee and they need surgery the procedure and timeline is pretty well defined. If it’s something like a back or concussion, the timeline is less well defined. They were criticized for mentioning a timeline last time he was out that turned out to be somewhat optimistic. I believe Matthews is making the call on his return and that will be when he feels he’s recovered sufficiently to play again.Normally, a team just says what the actual injury is, what the player is trying to play through and might outline rehab vs surgery timelines and they're considering both.
I mean he tried to play through it earlier in December, clearly he wants to play. It was obvious how it was impacting him
So now he’s taking more time to get it right.
Doesn’t seem what he does makes anyone happy.
Whatever can get him into the best shape for the playoffs matters to me. The LTIR seems to make sense. I bet if they are eyeing this move closer to the TDL so they could load up. In the meantime try to get him to work through it. At least that shows the league that the Leafs aren’t trying to game the LTIR system as others have.
And the outrage towards the team because they don’t tell us everything?I don't quite understand this whole thing. Why are people so angry that he is hurt? Athletes are injured every year in every sport.

That seems fair. It would seem like it would eleviate some of the angst if they were a little more upfrontAnd the outrage towards the team because they don’t tell us everything?
Just shut him down amd give him all the best treatments or surgery now and stop sscrewing around this organization is so stupid.
He should be ready for the playoffs in most cases
Only in Toronto. The guy is injured. It isn't his fault. I think what people should legitimately be angry about is the silly secrecy by the organization about the injury.I don't quite understand this whole thing. Why are people so angry that he is hurt? Who is paying for this experiment? Insurance? MLSE or is Matthews eating it. If a player is not able to perform and is rejecting treatment. How does that work out? It’s quite possible that Matthews and his camp are avoiding surgery.
Is that on his sacroiliac? I've heard it's like a rap-sack, backpack, wic-wic-whack, give me some slack jack (I wonder if anyone will know this reference?).Does he have sacroiliitis?
Well I'm guessing him going to Germany was on him and the team was open to it. He isn't rejecting treatment at this point in time. It seems that surgery is the absolute last option and I'm sure both Matthews and the Leafs agree on that.Who is paying for this experiment? Insurance? MLSE or is Matthews eating it.
