I said when he signed his 4 yr deal it was a blessing and now it has come true .
If this guy has a majored back issue that is not good for a long hockey career.
I was also shocked that he didn't sign for 8 yrs considering his injury history.
Thank gos it is only 4 yrs.
In Toronto I think? But still playing Boston.Wow, he's back tonight in Boston, let's see how it goes.
If he is playing games leading up to the event he will be play of he will be suspended.Given this is clearly a nagging injury, if he doesn't take the Four Nations break, I'll be beyond disappointed at his priorities. It's a nothing exhibition.

He’s playing tonightHad it been confirmed what the injury is? Back issues? hip pointer?
oblique injury?
Would the leafs be wise to LTIR him like Vegas made popular to gain cap space to acquire more talent at trade deadline?
If it’s going to linger all year then why not take advantage of the loop hole.
We’re a playoff team without him in lineup even tho he is arguably our best player.
Dont get me wrong…I love to see 34 all yr and tear it up and be that special player we all love watching but if this injury is going to be a all year thing then the goal should be to have him at his best just before the playoffs
I understand that ….he came back not long ago to just go on LTIR again. He’s playing tonight
If he was still injured he wouldn’t be playing tonight. I’m pretty sure the LTIR was just for book keeping.I understand that ….he came back not long ago to just go on LTIR again.
Just was wondering if this is a lingering injury and we all know players want to play etc. But if this injury is going to be an issue all yr, wouldn’t it be wise to take advantage of LTIR and cap savings?
Just wondering and has the injury been stated what it is?

For the record, he never went on LTIR. He was just on IR. They never said what his injury was.
Who knows what the future holds. Maybe he's healthy rest of the way? Why wouldn't you want your captain to play if he's good to go?
No way lol.If he is playing games leading up to the event he will be play of he will be suspended.
Its an NHL event and just like the All Star game players that miss end up getting a suspension.
Gary will make an example of him and the Leafs.
No, but its his back. He had back issues pre draft and back issues linger. Bruins will be cross checking his lower back at any chance tonight. Matthews wont stay in the lineup long, imo. He will play half assed/aviod all contact, as long as he can so he can put the USA jersey on for 4 nations. He should be making 9.5 million based on having no playoff dna and being a regular reason stat guy. Too soft and laughs offs getting bullied/ has no concept of the strong survive in the playoffs.I understand that ….he came back not long ago to just go on LTIR again.
