And paid for.this guy blows, where's the superstar we were promised
Matthews failing to score goal #70 and then falling into an abyss is a perfect microcosm of this team. Always close, yet always fail, just like Mitch trying to get point #100. Career losers. Anti-Toews.This is a lost season for Auston Matthews, 30 goals and 70 points is a stretch. What happened to this guy, his whole career took a nosedive at goal 69.

That 4 year term might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for us. I don't see his body holding up into his 30s.
I’m legitimately questioning if he took his offseason seriously. He looks gassed every shift, and not just on the second half of the back to back. Filmed too many commercials in order to pad the bank account instead of the necessary cardio sessions. What’s particularly inexplicable is that his decision making has also been awful.
I suppose it’s not too surprising that he appears to have no innate leadership qualities and is still unable to rise to an occasion, but it’s nice to have it proven, as this team will not do anything until all possible avenues of giving the players yet another chance have been exhausted.
Shorter contracts are always better for the team. That 4 year term might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for us. I don't see his body holding up into his 30s.
Nick Kypreos has mentioned a few times over the years about how younger Matthews had conditioning issues which prevented him from logging massive minutes earlier in his career. Doesn't look like he's worked on anything in the offseason because like you say, he does not look fresh physically or mentally.
He just looks so frustrated and disgusted with every play that dies. There was the one in the second, I think, where he made a really nice move to get around the first guy at the left side half wall, but then the second defender forced him around the net where another player came in, stapled him to the boards and took the puck. The Wild skated it out quickly, and Matthews just coasted for two or three seconds with a scowl on his face, furious that his amazing attack hadn’t worked out. Eventually he re-engaged, but now he’s chasing the play.Nick Kypreos has mentioned a few times over the years about how younger Matthews had conditioning issues which prevented him from logging massive minutes earlier in his career. Not gonna lie, I'm not a big fan of the start.Berube neutered matthews as well as the power play. Berube is where offence goes to die. Now you see why he was canned in stlouis
Seems weird that of the 3 that gets the most criticism is nylander and he’s been the better of the three…Not gonna lie, I'm not a big fan of the start.
Getting on Nylander when Matthews and Marner aren't performing on the 1st line leaves a VERY bad taste in my mouth.
This chart makes 2019-2024 depressing as hell. As if it weren't already.
